  1. Player development through cloning is a possibility
  2. That was Gardenhire's word for Sabermetrics and you ought to know that Willihamer knows his math words.
  3. Rosenthal should know why Baker and Gardenhire are not likely to get jobs. They each havea body of work that shows what kind of teams they work best with. Those teams are not looking for managers.
  4. Great poke at Gardenhire.
  5. The spike in attendance was nearly as great for being division winners as the 91 champions. That number grew even though there were a couple of down years in the dome.
  6. They also seem to like Murphy. Too bad they don't need an overpaid starting pitcher needing a change of scenery
  7. Wishful thinking at best. You are counting on an agent to be stupid and short sighted. They might have gotten one more year on the 4 year contract. The 4/33 provided Mauer with all the security he would need for the future. There was no need to go longer. He strung together enough healthy years at the right time that his agent would have the leverage. Shapiro and Mauer got lucky. The Twins did not. Sure it would be preferble for a win win. That does not happen that often on long term contracts.
  8. Severino was a$ 225000 bonus guy. Good job by that scout.
  9. IDK Nolasco, Mauer, a half dozen near major leauge prospects Tonkin, Thompson, Achter, O'Rourke, Pinto and maybe a low level prspect or two should get the job done.
  10. one report was $32 million. The Padres recieved another outfielder who couldn't hit.
  11. Souhan once again has thrown some mud out there and people respomd. Good creativity on Souhan's part.
  12. Who is going to take Duensing's spot on the roster? Not the role in the bullpen but the player included in every trade that some other GM is going to overpay for
  13. With the state of the bullpen as bad as it was I thin Boyer and Fien will be tendered. Darnell and Achter also would be protected. Fryer or Herman might be replaceable by Garver, so I think both might be dfa and told they will get invites to spring training. That would be six subtractions
  14. Added to the discussion should be who needs to be added to the 40 man roster to protect them from the rule 5 draft. There were quite a few success stories this year, including Gilmartin, that will cause teams to look harder at even the high a players
  15. The kid has not hit enough home runs yet for a career anywhere but the sandlot. Let him be excited. Bat comes near your dugout, smash the thing and have the clubhouse kid get it back to him. Draw a skull on the bat with part caved in. It is a game.
  16. The NL was so moribund this year that any team that had a big bopper bat in the minors found some way to get them to the majors by the end of the year.
  17. Ryan tends to trade spare parts. Plouffe is a spare part if Sano can play 3b. Arcia I think have options left. If not he is trade bait. Buxton, Hicks and Rosatio appear to be the outfield. The only way Hicks would be traded is if the offer is a player or two that intrigues Ryan and company. Danny Santana could be traded for a prospect. Perkins, May and Jepson are probably the only relievers that will return. Boyer and Cotts maybe depending on price. Ryan should know he needs upgrades. Depite the opinion that relievers are fungable, 7/8 inning guys are not. If Millone still has an option he would be kept unless they think Wheeler, Rodgers or Dean are capable of being your emergency starter. Hughes, Santana, and Nolasco all have difficult contracts for trading. Gibson shouldn't go anywhere. So far Duffrey looks like he belongs and you have Berrios waiting in the wings. Ryan will have to do the difficult because he really does not trade the cheap. Ryan has in the past said things about always liking Santana and Hughes, that leaves Nolasco. A bad contract for a bad contract might be the best deal Ryan could do.
  18. Boyer, Cotts and Duensing are all free agents after the season. MLB does not do sign and trade
  19. Given the spat I laughed at these vidieos https://www.mauersquickswing.com/ http://www.stack.com/2014/07/03/joe-mauer-workout/ http://www.stack.com/2014/07/03/joe-mauer-workout/ http://www.snappytv.com/snaps/upper-body-workout-time-for-an-upper-body-workout-joe-puts-about-spotlight-joe-mauer-all-access-on-foxsportsnorthcom http://www.snappytv.com/snaps/finishing-strong-joe-continues-to-walk-us-through-his-upper-about-spotlight-joe-mauer-all-access-on-foxsportsnorthcom
  20. Sabathia signed for 8 years. 4 of those he will not be worth the money. You think the fans will be happy a 20 some million dollar player that isn't worth the money? See any thread the last 2 years that has a label of Joe Mauer. In regards to E Santana having a bad year, what pitcher missing the first half of the year has pitched well starting midseason? It can't be easy. The length of spring training to get ready versus a few minor league games. Any judgment of the contract for Santana should wait until next year. Aces signing with a new team that is a bad, small or mid market team. Please feel free to refresh my memory. Buerhle is close, but not really ace. When you have a bad team you have to sign what you can. 30 year old pitchers are a gamble. Nolasco has been injured. Santana suspended. Sometimes if it were not for bad luck, you would have no luck at all
  21. Norris has great first half of seasons then declines. The great first half nabbed an all star nomination. Hahn was a number 8 prospect in the Rays organization. Norris might not be as valued as you think, Hahn might not be a low valued as you think.. Would you trade Tyler Duffey and an almost major league ready middle relief prospect for Norris?
  22. The alternative to Nolasco was finding the next PJ Walters and Pedro Hernandez with a third prayer in Rochester for when they faltered.
  23. What happened during their playing days has no bearing on their ability to coach or understand the game
  24. Of the high k/9 relievers traded Lowe, having a career year, cost Tronto a pair of near 30 level ranking prospects for a rental, Diekman went with Hamels, Joe Blanton is doing well as a reliever but might have made a few TD keyboards melt, Broxton the same. There were not a lot of high strikeout relievers moved. You can hope for the Twins to make a deal, but other teams are not giving up decent relievers
