  1. How well did going "all in" work for Oakland both short term and long term?
  2. With their new TV deal, you can increase the Arizona operating income by 62 million a year. What is going to increase the Twin's revenue like that? I am not sure how long the Twin's contract is for, but it is reasonable to think for a few more years.
  3. Fernandez to Boston. Dombrowski seems to always fleece Miami for players without really giving up much. 28 other clubs will go WTF and fans everywhere will be mad at their front offices for not making a deal.
  4. Career WRC favors Plouffe, career OPS+ favors Plouffe. Nunez had a career year.
  5. Payne’s decisions can have life-changing consequences for the teenagers he watches. And despite all the tools of his trade—the speed guns, the number crunching—he says some of it comes down to instinct. “The hard part is figuring out what a guy is made of on the inside,” Payne says. “Some guys have all the skills, but there is something missing mentally and the talent doesn’t translate. Other guys don’t have the natural ability, but when the lights are on and it’s time to perform, they thrive.”
  6. The question for Jones is will he stick on a major league roster, will they trade something of vaalue to keep him
  7. 10/14 players last year stuck from the rule V draft. That success rate should perk up any GMlooking for talent. That should be almost every GM. I do not think that $25K for a flyer on somebody is an unreasonable gamble in mlb. The question would be how many teams have room on their 40 man to take flyers on players.Despite other people's opinions to the contrary, quality bullpen depth is not so easy to get. There were quite a few drafted last year in the rule v, a few stuck.Bullpen is usually a position of need. It would not be out of the realm of possibility that a team will take a flyer on a Twins pitcher, as there are 6 pitchers deemed possibly close enough to be major league ready.I wonder if the Twins view those pitchers not anywhere near major league ready. If another team get intrigued enough on a flyer, then there is a shot for a fleece of a trade. Looking at Sean Gilmartin, did the Twins think Dean=Gilmartin so they peotected him?
  8. Axford or Boyer? Colorado DFA Axford, so he is available. He made 2.6 million last year. and is arb eligible. 2.7 road era, so escaping Colorado is a plus. I should add he is 6'5" so he fits the Ryan mold of tall pitchers
  9. In regards to the Pirates losine players in the December 03 draft Rich Thompson, Freddie Brooks were returned Chris Shelton, minimal playing time Jeff Bennett was the mop up man for the Brewers 4 out of the 5 say the Pirates did not lose anything but gained revenue. Jose Bautista was with a lot of differetn teams in 04, ended up back with the Pirates, and still did not develop for a few more years
  10. The Reds, Rays, Marlins, Rockis, Mariners, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Indians and Braves all do not look like they do too much different than the Twins in the risk taking department. The Yankees appear to be taking less risk. The Cardinals are just plain smart. I wouldn't call the Orioles that wild and crazy. Up until this year, the Asto's did not risk anything. Shapiro was brought into the Jays organization because up until the point that Shapiro was hired, the Jays had really done nothing. Ryan does not look all that differetn than 1/3 to 1/2 of the general managers.
  11. Ryan this go around as risk adverse. How many times have they picked high school players in the early rounds of the draft whereas before it was who's basement was the highest. You let Cuddyer go to get 2 draft picks. You sign players that have histories of injuries and hope for the best. Ryan can't afford a big mistake, think Sandoval or Ramirez, but he is willing to try the medium mistake.
  12. Cinci has signed their own players. Chapman really did not get much more than some of the first round picks did, so what expensive free agents did the Reds sign and how many good players have they traded away the last few years because I just can't remember the signings, only the trades
  13. If he does not progress to at least a September call up you might find out in 2017
  14. The negative impact of the leagures worst defensive catcher might not show up on the WAR numbers. His numbers as a catcher could be less. Over a full season a lot less batting while playing catcher. One projection had him closer to a 3 over a full season. On the other hand if Berrios has the kinds of numbers he had in the minors, he is well over a 4 war pitcher.
  15. So signing a player to a contract that would make them immovable , over paid and underperforming is better than doing small moves. Doing what turns out to be terrible moves gets a GM fired.
  16. Don Yang in Columbia Heights. It is in the grocery store.
  17. Plouffe would have been at 2b after he was deemed not to be the shortstop of the future except for the 150 innings of work that would lead one to believe he wasn't a 2b, either. The short stay in the outfield seems to be forgotten, also
  18. It is hard to put stock in the KBO as experienced players have gone over there and hit a ton after not doing much in MLB. He might can play, but the numbers are like minor league statistics.
  19. 4+ years pro experience so he doesn't count against the international signing pool.
  20. Nolasco to catcher!
  21. Trades twice from teams going nowhere at the deadline. Atlanta gave up a lot to get him, traded him for next to nothing. I wouldn't read too much into being traded
  22. With Teixierra's history over the last 4 years I would pass. If I were to trade for him for a 1 year rental it would be a low level prospect as he has been playing about half seasons. His highest value would be healthy at the trade deadline. Now were they to throw Sanchez the catcher in the deal it would give you two crapshoot players to bet om
  23. Player development through cloning is a possibility
