  1. I am thinking many of you are light 5/110 or 6/140 come to mind as what he will command with another good year (2022) before FA. If you can't get it done in the next 6 weeks we must trade him (as painful as it might be). We don't know what the next CBA will be, and it will probably be tweeked or more in the players favor, because of the other issues. Maybe compensation goes away totally. Get it done or move on.
  2. I feel by season's end this club will not be close to the worst pitching staff. FO overestimated the ability or what they had left of 4 pitchers who account for some of the issues(Happ,Shoemaker, colume, Dobnak). Also cameos by Smeltzer, stashak. Relief pitchers vary wildly year by year, but we needed better starting pitching. Time to cut bait and bring up the youngsters, can't be any worse than what we have now.
  3. It proves that good starting pitching wins or at least gives you a good chance to win the game. Looks like Ober is a part of the future, let's try some other of the young pitchers and see what we have. Maybe the FO is hoping Happ and Shoemaker can pitch well enough to draw some interest, does not look like that is going to happen, so cut our losses.
  4. Depends on your view. If a retool then 2 - 3 years at about 14 - 15 seems about right. if a rebuild then trade him. I tend most of this depends on whether you can resign either Berrios or Buxton. If not either and you are trading both, then you are talking probably 2024 to see results. Pitching pipeline seems to be coming, not so sure of the hitting.
  5. I think you are all low on what Berrios will command, my guess is he wants in the 20 - 25 range. That is high for me, given what I feel he is worth. Don't know what he could bring back, but some organizations have prospects who are blocked and might be available. Pitching is the key, or middle infield or 3B. We have outfielders for the time being, unless you are including Kepler or the like to bring back better players.
  6. As you know, this is impossible. What else is needed, for the lower ERA, Whip was it a mirage of ball just hit at people and unsustainable, how many strikeouts did each have, how many of his runners left on scored (bullpen issues), hard hit or exit velocity average. The win-loss means nothing. Also some of it is the strength of the club they are playing for.
  7. Unless things turn around quickly the rest of this year should be used to see what pitchers we can count on for next year and which pitchers need more time (or may not make it at all).
  8. I pitcher I would like to see here this year is Cano. See if his stuff plays up here.
  9. Great article. We are going to need the good young pitching soon. Probably as soon as next year.
  10. That is why Rocco needs to be fired now! You can't be 0 for ever and keep your job. If a worker had his percentage, he would be long gone.
  11. Gore was just a suggestion. Would want a top prospect (pitching hopefully to trade Buxton), and should be able to get it from a hungry world series contender. One more note, we don't know what a new CBA will look like, and may get nothing if they walk at the end of 2022.
  12. If you can sign Berrios and or Buxton, you have to do it, and it will hurt. Maybe Jim will have to up the budget or we get closer to Tampa Bay mode and that mode does work. If both Buxton and Berrios cannot be signed and give you no hope they both have to be dealt. If Buxton returns and can hit again, he can bring the pieces. Start with Padres and ask for Gore in a Buxton trade, doubt the Dodgers will pay that much for him, but maybe Toronto will and put a lot of pressure on Boston and the Yankees to get involved. Will have to see when Buxton returns, and how he hits.
  13. We may still have time, but this is unwatchable. For the record, even if you are retooling, if you cannot extend Berrios or Buxton by early to mid July, this is the point in time where they would have the most value. Buxton will fetch multiple top pieces from a good farm system, think Gore from San Diego. Berrios would certainly fetch good pieces also. You must trade them now if they become sure to leave, my guess in that Buxton is in that class.
  14. We could DFA a few of these lower end relief types and start bringing up the kids, not getting any better quickly
  15. Smeltzer to me is an AAAA pitcher, may need to be on a rebuilding club. Thorpe needs to be here or on the shuttle. Because of the 40 man spot, Anderson and Chalmers will probably be looked at first.
  16. Berrios may take more years than you want to give to sign. And between him and Buxton, he might be the more replaceable with the young pitching talent the Twins have coming. Problem is Cleveland's pitching is not going away and Kansas City is coming, Twins are just a pack team unless some of their youngsters hit. I would move the bullpen pieces up quickly and see where we stand, we may not have time to fully assess where the youngsters are before July.
  17. I think you have rose colored glasses. White Sox are only getting better over the next 2 - 3 years and maybe for the next 10. Unless you think Berrios or Buxton will sign an extension (not at above market value) they will be gone after 2022. But you need to do this over the next two months as by July you will probably be out of it (especially if you lose the next 6) and have to make the tough decisions. Unless you feel you can survive (if there is a QA, which I doubt will be part of the next CBA), you have to get value for Berrios and Buxton this year. You also need the FO to change their view on players to players like Arreaz and power hitters in that mold and high energy pitching(must for bullpen). If they will not change, they must be fired. This is already a total system failure, why make it worse.
  18. Of this list I would expect that Kepler will be gone and Sano will be a bench player, gone or released. Outfield will be Arreaz, New to the system, Laurich 1b will be Kiriloff, 2B polonco, ss Simmons (if resigned), 3B Donaldson C Jeffers. View should be on finding more pitching in these deals.
  19. I am also predicting that unless they sign extensions, both Buxton and Berrios will be moved. They will be gone for little of less (depending on the new CBA) after 2022.
  20. Some of the problem is location. Some of it is lack of stuff (heat). You cannot fix this overnight, and it is a front office issue. They don't have much time to fix this or we are looking at the short window and a rebuild (again).
  21. If you average 6 runs a game, bullpen will not be a big issue (or as big).
  22. The way to fix this. Fire Rocco, bring in Rowson as manager. he has a chance of fixing the hitting. That will take care of many issues. These current hitting coaches are a joke.
  23. Answer to this is give it a month. It is a small sample size.
  24. What you could have done is spend the extra money ( 2 -6) million a year and either paid Trevor May or signed Liam Hendricks. This is a fail on the front office. Then we have the fail on Rocco's bullpen management.
  25. You're late to the party Nick. I have been saying this for 2 weeks. Twins have been outscored like 27 - 3 in the ninth and 10th innings. They need to sign Greene and send Waddle, Thielbar, and maybe other pitchers with options to the minors. Call up Law, and make a trade or two or this season will be gone by the end of May. If it is maybe you have to fire the entire management staff to get the message across. Trading will be difficult because a good front office will want top flight prospects for mid level relievers. Make moves now.
