  1. I heard or saw that Buxton does want to stay here. He may need to tell his agent that, or the agent is under pressure not to take a discount (by the other agents worried about the view). If that is the case pay the man a reasonable amount and let's get it done. Berrios wants to test FA so there is little hope there unless you pay him market value plus. Let's end this issue, and maybe Pohlad will have to get involved this winter.
  2. I replies unsure, we don't know if Buxton or Berrios even want to sign here or just use the Twins to drive the market up. Until that is clarified cannot say for sure. If they would sign here and the FO does not, then yes they should be fired.
  3. keeping the ball in play, fouling off tough pitches, not chasing balls out of the zone. Not making the pitchers job easy. Twins have one in Arreaz and have a few more that are good.
  4. Rooker and Sano almost look like the same type of player. That is one too many for me. Give me more Arraez type players that work pitchers.
  5. You can never have enough pitching. If this moves us from 6 - 7 possibilites to 8 - 9 so much the better. Odds are maybe 20 - 25% or less work out. Now I feel we may get 3 starters out of this group, maybe more, maybe less. But this solves the problem since Pinella will probably get traded and we should see 3 - 4 of these youngsters this year (Winder, Balavick, Ryan, and others in the relief core). It is no longer about wins and losses, this is seeing what you have for next year.
  6. no rooker, no cave. Bring up Garlick.
  7. Yankees will take anyone cheap enough. Selling Kepler would be at a low, I would need something of value to look at it.
  8. I have no problem with Wes Johnson, He can only use what he is dealt with. In this case Happ and Shoemaker. Relievers tend to be good and bad from year to year. Front office gets a pass after last year, we have about 2 years to see if the pitching pipeline is set up. However lack of fundamentals and bad managing cannot cover for the errors this year. Two things will come of this, whether Jim Pohlad and the family open the checkbook, and whether this front office can put a pitching pipeline together. I am hopeful on the latter. However there must be accountability so Rocco must go. And yes he will probably be better elsewhere, but can we let him continue to make mistakes here?
  9. I am one in the fire him now category, for many of the reasons stated above. Maybe Rowson will make a better manager and at the same time fix the hitting issues. This is not all on him, but the lack of fire and sloppy play makes this an easy call for me.
  10. Assuming the comp pick remains in the new CBA, this is no slam duck given the owners have to give up something and this may be easier than some other options.
  11. I still feel like Rooker is AAAA type, his K rate is way to high for AAA and would only be worse here. I think they will look at Cano and possibly keep him. You are missing Thielbar on this list, but maybe hoping he is traded. Maybe Rortvedt is exposed or Garver is traded, hopefully Garver is traded as he has some value, more than a lottery ticket.
  12. According to the Star-tribune article for tomorrow, Berrios wants market value (at his perception). Lance Lynn just got 2/38 from the White Sox. That is telling me Berrios would want like 6/150 or in that neighborhood. If you don't want to go there, you must trade him in the next two weeks. I feel that is Ace or close to Ace money. Maybe the market is going there. I could see the Twins going either way on this, but my feeling is they trade him. He did do damage by closing off the return from the small market teams for the next 1 1/2 years as they now know they cannot sign him.
  13. I don't feel the Stashak is more than long relief, and not in a major way. I feel some of the other options the Twins have are better. I had stronger feelings on Littell, than on Stashak.
  14. I feel Thorpe, Refsnyder, Stashak, should also be gone, add Javier and maybe vallimont. Maybe you could also dispose of Rooker as a trade throwin. Maybe Columbe and Garlick also stay (Garlick beat out Rooker this year). Rest are TDB based on trade returns and FA this winter.
  15. I do feel they have 8 - 10 possibilities for starting pitchers in the Twins system (somewhat close). Of these 2 or 3 will maybe make it, but we don't know to what degree they will preform at.
  16. For the small market teams, they will absolutely need the 1 1/2 years of prospect control to give up significant prospect assets for either Buxton or Berrios. So the longer you hold on to them (if you have to sell) the smaller the market for those assets.
  17. From what I am seeing and not hearing, I believe the front office has decided Berrios is out of their price range (probably wants ace or close to ace money). That is why you are hearing all the rumors there. The FO also seems to feel that relievers are hit and miss so spending big money on them is not wise. I now expect to see Berrios and maybe Rogers gone in the next two weeks.
  18. With Buxton injured (again), he will not be able to be traded until this winter. If he wants out the Twins need to get a decent return. I still think an overpay is the way to go. He is very valuable.
  19. Evan though Pohlad said there was money to sign Berrios and Buxton long term, we don't know what they are asking and what the FO thinks they are worth. If Berrios wants $25 or more a year, it will probably not happen here, if Buxton wants to be paid on what he has produced in the last two half seasons, that might not happen here either. A lot will be determined how the Twins come out of the break, a 7 game winning streak would make things more interesting. Still think in 2 weeks most of the expiring contracts, if not all will be gone. We might get one surprise if either the Met, Yankees, or Blue Jays decide to do an overpay for Berrios (could also be San Diego). Just don't be too surprised to find the offers underwhelming, given the state of the CBA, and the status for next year's season.
  20. You are only likely to get one top 100 prospect for Berrios. And you had better be right. Problem is a couple of them are injured (Pearson) or ineffective (Gore). There may be others, but you have the pick the right one. San Diego and Toronto are the only 2 (Dodgers will not) maybe trade a high level pitching prospect in return. Do not think the Giants have one that close. Rogers may get you a decent prospect, but not likely to be a pitcher, not many clubs will move a pitcher close to the majors. We shall see. If I took a lower level prospect, I had better be right
  21. It depends on what you can get as far as close to major league ready talent. As stated only Buxton, Berrios, and rogers can bring more than a minimal amount of talent back or lottery tickets. Buxton being injured will be selling low and probably has to wait until the offseason or sign and extension. Berrios they should already know what he wants for an extension and if they are not going to sign him, he must be traded for the biggest haul in the next two weeks. Rogers depends on the return, if it will help next year trade him. Twins need to open spots and see what the young pitchers have. Then you can act on next year.
  22. Lewis may or may not stay at SS, they also have Javier who the jury is out on. We just don't know at this time, but your statement is suspect.

    The Grand "Re-Tool" Experiment

I am sure both Buxton, Berrios and their agents know where their price point is. If they are totally committed to testing the market, then you must rebuild. If you can keep one (Berrios is the more important) then a retool is a possibility, but you must have the extension in place or the parameters of the deal by sometime this month. You cannot let either walk for nothing.

    The Grand "Re-Tool" Experiment

Then you are saying they should rebuild, I am not at that point unless I know I can't sign one or the other. But you have to sell them this summer. By next year they are looked as a one year rental and you will not get full value.
