  1. I think it depends on if Hill can start this coming weekend. If not, get him up here, you can put Thorpe on the IL until we can figure out his velocity loss. No big problem here.
  2. Where was Alacia tonight. If you are going to do this, let's use some of the younger studs. What this game proves is you have to get rid of Thorpe and certainly Smeltzer if all they are is mops, you only need one mop. Rocco did not manage this game well. Hope it doesn't bite us later. Still the umpire calls on Kepler where horrible. Umps should not change the game or maybe we really need the robots considering the calls the Twins seem to get compared to the rest of the league. Also because the Yankees seem to make umps not want to ring them up.
  3. hoping it is anyone but Smeltzer, Maybe Thorpe or Alcala.
  4. After Baldelli's comments after the game, if I am Homer Bailey, I am worried about my spot here when Pineda comes back. Or ever Odorizzi. Twins may be starting to turn into the pitching factory that Cleveland is. That would be a great thing for this decade.
  5. It would be better than no baseball, but due to the problems in Florida, has many reservations it would work. Maybe the whole season would have to be played in Arizona to make it work.
  6. Wonder if this had something to do with his absence from camp for a couple of weeks.
  7. With Arreaz and Polanco, the middle infield could be spoken for, Lewis will probably wind up in the outfiled with Kirloff at 1B and Laurnach in Left, with Sano as DH. Let's start the transition now, so if Buxton cannot stay healty, maybe he and a small piece can get us a front line starter. Would rather spend money, but this might have to be the way.
  8. Expect Kirloff here this year. If Cruz is good for another year (2021) with Sano at first , Eddie is almost certainly gone. Otherwise we are looking at Sano at DH at lot earlier than any of us expected.
  9. If you can't get the Athletic on a decent deal, I just don't know. I talked one of my kids into this being a Christmas present. Ran about $30. Biggest difference is the Twins offense vs the rest of the division. Outside of Cleveland, which will be dangerous if they can field a decent offense, Twins pitching + offense should carry the day.
  10. For all you neigh sayers how would this board blow up if the White Sox swept in and took Betts and Price for their new 2nd Baseman and one of the White Sox decent young starters plus another body (not saying it was likely, but stranger things have happened) and now the board would blow up the we would not give up Graterol to stop the Whities from getting Betts and Price. Key takeaway I saw from the Athletic this morning was that the Red Sox were determined to get under the salary cap and to get something for Betts more than a draft pick. If we blew up the Dodgers deal, who knows what would have happened. I like others are worried about Bloom (from Tampa) knowing more than the Twins, but this was worth the risk.
  11. It was nice knowing you don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  12. Bad deal if Graterol turns out to be a very good starter. If just a reliever than this deal is fine as Japanese pitchers seem to last longer than most. Maeda has been good and helps with payroll over the next few years. High risk, High reward.
  13. This list will change a lot over the next few months. Musgrove will cost a lot, but like him better than some of the short term prospects. More into develop our own and then trade only if needed. None of these scream 'ACE'
  14. Nice list. All of us knew the Twins farm system was deep. We are just finding out how deep. These will be good for the next several years, assuming maybe 30% of them (or a little more make it).
  15. Remember this year relievers have to face 3 batters or until the end of the inning. So you cannot run into a bullpen in a big situation (like bases loaded and 0 outs) where the oppenent could play matchups with a superior pen. Twins have a nice problem to have.
  16. There are not too many teams that will pay $12 million a year for his talent or even $10 million. You are not going to get an impact starter for him, unless you include 1 - 2 of your impact possible minor league starters. World has changed, good pitching rules and outfielders like Rosario, if he does not step it up, are around (not quite at his level, but not close to $10 - $12 million a year). Rosario would be too expensive at this time for about 1/2 the clubs, and the rest already have talent close or better than him in the major leagues (Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Astros) just to name a few.
  17. Cruz will DH 6 days a week, sano will dh the 7th, no need for Garver to DH
  18. Agreed, actually want both if one decent contracts, nothing to lose. (minor league with invites to spring training). May have to give one of them a major league contract, we still have a couple of spots to let go of players (starting with Harper).
  19. Couple of items. 1, Graterol seems to now be a bullpen piece, that removes Wisler or Stashek, it is also possible Romero makes the team as he is out of options and could be a multiple innings guy early. 2. I think Wade is a better fit than Cave for the 4th outfielder slot. Less swing and miss as a pinch hitter if you need to get a runner in from 3rd. Astudillo I feel will not make this club and may be shipped elsewhere as with Cave and some of the out of option relievers. These trades often happen later in spring training when clubs know their needs better. Feel the Twins will have a lot less rope if one of the 4 - 5 starters or lower leverage relievers has a bad spring or early season. This happens on better clubs.
  20. I feel he will not be with the club after this year. Too much money and 2 or 3 cheap options in the minors. This is a business, and while his trade value is not high, he and a prospect could fetch a decent pitcher.
  21. Did not quite know the farm was that loaded. Probably will need to move some of these players and others will fail. Am high on most of the top two groups. Only a couple of the lower group concern me.
  22. Let's break this down. 1. With the signings of Sano and Donaldson, not only is Rosario a trade chip, but so is one of Kirloff and Larnich, that is an incentive to getting a good pitcher from a non competitive team (this does not include Rooker, Raley and some others at a lower tier. 2. Twins have 8 - 10 pitchers in the top two minor league levels this year, who could be ace to average major league pitchers. Developing your own pitchers in the fastest way to stay competitive over a long window. It also helps your overall budget. Twins FO seems to be staying away from signing longterm contracts for pitchers over 30 who are not close to ace like. This seems to me to be wise, as pitchers can decline a lot faster than position players. 3. Somewhere around 2023 the Twins will be able to have a new media contract. This is huge as it will at some amount of spendable revenue above and beyond to the income stream. Twins will have to be wise, but have a chance to have a very good to great team over the next 4 - 5 years for sure, probably more if they make the right moves.
  23. You still have 5 - 6 ballclubs that look better on paper. Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Nationals for sure and then the Rays, Boston, Cubs all in the same area. What do all of these clubs (maybe minus Boston and the Cubs) have in common, very good pitching. This is the hump the Twins have to climb over. A lot can change, one key injury, players doing quick declines, and the fact the Yankees have a super club right now all play into the odds.
