  1. It was a seller's market. Most seller's was wanted overpays for better players. Would have liked more, but given the parameters, Twins did fine. Astros became the favorite, it will still be difficult.
  2. I am in agreement that doing nothing is not an option. Let's get it done.
  3. Will Smith given where the Giants are now will not be available. I could see a Bradley, Givens, Greene, or others, Jake McGee from Colorado etc. Just go get 2 - 3 of them.
  4. Greinke has Twins on no trade list, but that was probably from when they looked bad, it may pay to checkout if his stance is willing to change and what it would take to get it to change. If you pickup up all the money in the contract, prospect return might not be out of site, but 2 prospects in the 7 - 15 range. That to me would be doable.
  5. I would love an ace, but Mets seem to want to buy low (they won the Stroman trade) and sell very high. Mets have a new GM who wants to prove NY can get what they want. Work on relievers. but I bet prices come down today or tomorrow from the selling teams. Greinke would be nice, but Twins are on his no trade list for a reason. Problem is that the Twins need relievers known for their control as we all have seen that umps swallow their right arms, if the relievers are known to have control issues, against the Yankees. May and Duffey have the curveballs that work well against the Yankees, but they hang way too many of them. Maybe Jake McGee and Givens or Bradley (they would not cost an arm or a leg) would work. All have stuff, just on off years, but we all know how fast relievers can turn things around. Might touch LeClerc, but control may be too big an issue and he comes with a lot of control to sell very low on. Maybe because the Twins farm system is good, a lot of these sellers will seem to think they can set a high price and make a point that if the twins will not meet the price to sell elsewhere. Toronto seems to have made a decision to sell Stroman to an NL club, so if he works well they would not have to see him also. Good luck, but the Twins have to make deals for at least 2 relievers if not 3 down this road.
  6. Wonder if moving him along this fast is a need to see. Both for his trade value (closer to the majors) and to see if he is ready if they trade one of Romero or Buxton this winter for pitching. My guess is whether they can sign either to an extension early in the winter.
  7. Would much rather sell a few lower end prospects for rentals. Twins have had several years of bad play, which has helped our farm system become one of the bests. Having a #1 pick in the 20's is like owning a lottery ticket. Far from a sure thing.
  8. Disagree, depending on price would like to see a two to three year extension
  9. Seller clubs are expecting sky high returns, and the selling market is smaller than expected. Many of the in between clubs are holding until they can sort out what course to take. Twins need the help now, we will see if the FO answers.
  10. I think either or both of Oderizzi or Pineda will get a QO from the twins. Do not see this for Gibson (wrong side of 30).
  11. Putting Schoop on the bench against righties and starting him against lefties, makes sense to me. Still give him a few slots against righties, he could get hot again. If he continues like this, will have to see if he gets playoff time.
  12. Qualifier, think Giants are looking more for infield and outfield prospects than pitchers, but nice comparison. Maybe Gordon, plus low level prospect or just Gordon.
  13. Good to see we have more pitching is the wings. Just too bad it is a ways away. Positive note, even the ones they brought up have been good. Stewart, Littell and Thorpe give hope for next year, as it is certain that not all of Gibson, Oderizzi, and Pineda will be back.
  14. Prospects do not always pan out. Maybe Gordon's ceiling is higher, but are his chances of reaching it about 10 - 20%. His floor seems much lower, like utility players or AAAA player. If he has little chance of making this club and working out in the next couple of years (my opinion), he needs to be cashed for help this year.
  15. Good win, problem is the Schoop is to have about 75% of the outcomes being bad, the only ones that work are a hit, a walk or a fly ball deep enough to advance Castro to third (which would have to be to the wall in center or right). Maybe it worked out for the best because some of the results would have been a DP.
  16. Agree it will be difficult, and probably cost more than any of us expect. You have about 15 teams looking at the playoffs and 14 of them need bullpen help. That to me screams seller's market. Now many of these clubs do not have mid level prospects like the Twins, but many teams will want more from the Twins than other clubs. This leaves the problem at how much of the future do we want to sell. I expect Romoro and Gordon to be two of the prospects that could be sold. Great article, Nick.
  17. Interesting, but try playing in a real league. There are a couple I know of in the Twin Cities.
  18. Close pitches go both ways, just doesn't seem like the Twins way that often. May has closer stuff, if he can harness location, that is still a big if(but he is not the only reliever with that issue). A very good win. Twins are doing what all good clubs do, beat the bad clubs most of the time. That is a good sign.
  19. Do not know how our draft will turn out. some make it most don't. Expect some of our middle infield depth will soon be waring different uniforms in exchange for pitching help.
  20. Have been waiting for Arraez to come up. Hope he gets a chance to play up here.
  21. Thanks for the article Jeremy, did not realize Twins had that big a problem. See 4-5 clear adds there, so Twins need to make some moves (even though, the bottom of the 40 man has a few clear players that can be let go.
  22. My question with Tyler Jay is velocity, if it is back up, if not I can see the Twins cutting ties.
