  1. If Kirloff comes near his maximum top of his ceiling, it could mean that the Twins will view Rosario as the expendable piece (depending on his production) in the next few years. I believe even with the Twins Daily staff Kirloff will be here (given a good season in Pensacola) either late 2019 or late April in 2020. His top end is well above either of the Twins two corner outfielder or any first baseman now in the system.
  2. I think Cave gets exposed by the pitcher's union either in spring training or at the start of the year. This should open the door for Wade to come up and take over, at least short term as the 4th outfielder.
  3. Great article. I am concerned about the lack of OBP on the Twins. Other concern not mentioned here is how Cleveland right handers stack up against same sided hitters. I would be much more concerned if most of the righty starters had Whale like statistics. The Whale for those of you who do not reconize the term was Rich Reshuel who was death on righties and very hittable by lefties. (pardon the spelling). There are two sides to this, but give what MLB is trying to do to speed up the game, balanced hitters seem to be the way to go (due to 13 man pitching staffs, 3 bench players is all you can carry at this time).
  4. Kaat is supposed to be very good so will welcome him. Will have to see how the rest of the group shakes out. Expect Byleven will retire in a year or two, so hoping the replacements are better than Burt (for some of you this is a very small bar to cross). Remember Hunter as being one of the better ones so he will be missed, but we shall see on the rest.
  5. I was more impressed by the comment on Fangraphs that gave Kirloff a 15 - 20% chance to be the next Joey Votto. That is very high praise, now we shall see. I could see him being here if he starts in Pensacola between late 2019 and May 2020. One publication had him moving Kepler to first base or 4th outfielder or trade bait. Can't wait to see how he turns out.
  6. I think they should start him at least in Penscola or maybe even like some here, in the Twins bullpen like St. Louis does with a lot of young pitchers. Would like to give him part of the year in the minors to see if he can develop the third pitch. Most pitchers do a at least one bullpen session inbetween starts, so to me it is possible they could use him every other day in the bullpen, or use him to start in less stressful roles where he could work the third pitch in (changeup) without worring too much about the results. Then move him to higher leverage situations depending on his results with 2 - 3 pitches. Just do not know how much time one pitching coach can spend in the minors with an elite prospect vs in Minnesota where you have 2 - 3 coaches that can work with pitchers.
  7. I might have Javier ahead of him, just because of position and having more experience (that might change after this year). Starting him at Ft. Myers seems right to me. If he can move through Ft. Myers and do well in AA, then Twins are looking at the great position of being able to move a controlable starting outfielder with a prospect or two for a front line starter, or maybe a catcher if needed.
  8. Would prefer as a starter, but think it is more important to have him develop at the major league level and help the Twins win this year. He could move back to starting, but sending him to Rochester to me does little good. If he dominates there, what will the Twins do?. So use him in long relief to start and move to starting if one of the starters fails or you can trade one.
  9. He has a very high ceiling, so here's hoping he can get off to a good start in Cedar Rapids and push his way to Ft. Myers this year.
  10. I also think he needs a month or two in AA. Then see what happens.
  11. It is great to see this many pitching prospects with great upside in the system. Since success rate should be between 20 - 50% numbers do matter.
  12. This looks like a guess ranking based on stuff. Have no problem with it, he will either be in the top 10 if he can harness his stuff this year or way down next year if he can't. This is what rankings are about.
  13. Maybe the sides can come up with a plan to make salary work for all teams. I just dislike the Miami main owner, who has done this in other sports, buy the team, make good money for 5 - 10 years and then sell at a huge profit (usually be threatening to sell to a buyer who would move the club to drive up the local price). This same thing is going to happen here in Tampa (where I winter), if they cannot resolve the stadium issue. Making owners spend money to a minimum floor will at least fix some of the issues as far as player salaries go, but the playing field must be close to level.
  14. Maybe the key here would be for Wes Johnson to make a decision to concentrate on one of the breaking pitches with the goal of raising it to considerably above average. Would hope it would be the curveball, but any hanging breaking pitch is usually the launching pad in today's game.
  15. Hate the three batter minimum idea, it takes much away from the strategy of the game. Universal DH - No l like the differences in the leagues, if they want to do this put it in after the next CBA. Pitch clock - Sorry it has come to this, but yes it is needed. Roster size - 26 maybe even 27. Would put more strategy in the game - put you would probably have to limit the number of pitchers on the club, otherwise I can see teams just using the extra roster spot for another pitching specialist. anti - tanking almost impossible to enforce. Something needs to be addressed in the next CBA - probably for balance will have to be a hard cap with a hard minimum spend - even if only a percentage of total revenue. Owners should not be allowed just to pocket the money and let the team lose.
  16. I agree with the concenus and wish it could be better. He seems to be a third or fourth starter at best. Maybe something will click with him, or his third or fourth pitch needs to become a deceptive chase out of the zone. We shall see, the very good news is this is the first time in years a number of Twins farmhand pitchers will have the chance to make it in the major leagues and be above average for a rotation in 2 - 4 years.
  17. I like Enlow, a lot, but this type of pitcher does not seem to make a major player for me until he succeeds at AA. The third pitch will be key as will consistency in finding the strike zone. The FSL still has a lot of filler in it and while we all would like his numbers to be great, they are going to have to be very good to convince me he is the real deal. Maybe I need to see him, but am not going to be in Florida long enough this year to see an FSL game.
  18. You are correct about part of this. Earlier in this thread, it was stated that Baadoo was in the low 30% range the first two months, then dropped to the low 20's the last 4. (strikeout rate). Also a lot of the called looking K's were very marginal. It is hard to tell, but a walk rate is hard to teach, especially if their is not a big chase rate.
  19. One thing you cannot teach is OBP, and the walk rate. I am very excited about this. Twins have far too many swing and miss guys up higher that chase.
  20. We shall all soon see, but this and the Twins minor league depth at this time is why the Twins should be pursuing trades, especially with the tanking clubs to increase our major league talent. Problem is their is not a lot of talent at this time on non-contending clubs to be had.
  21. I do think that if Sano and Buxton have another bad year, they may not be here in 2020 to see if they can put it all together. That does bother me a bit, only because this originization has had major issues in unlocking talent.
  22. Gonsalves for me will have to harness everything he has just to be a #4, #5 starter in the major leagues. That is a tough path. I would rank him more toward where you have Stewart now. On the other hand some other pitchers should be higher, but do not know if you rank on status plus closeness to the major leagues or just pure upside.
  23. At the current time Pressly is probably among the top 15 relievers in baseball as Houston unlocked his talent. Your point of trading prospects may be correct if your origanization cannot unlock the top end talent, and Twins have not been able to do that among pitchers for a long, long, time. Alston seems to have started some process last year and I hope that Wes Johnson can turn these prospects into very good pitching. That will go a long way toward the sustainable process the new FO is hypeing.
  24. Jordan Balazovic seems too low on this list. Given what we are seeing from other sites, is that just a miss, or has he improved so much that he rose that far.
  25. this list is just showing how lower end the Twins farm system was after the 4 - 5 players graduated from it over the past 4 years. And very little pitching has come out of the system. Hopefully that will change over time.
