  1. I somewhat agree with the above as the White Sox probably will not be there next year, but certainly by 2021, unless they open the wallet and buy more talent than I think they will. Twins need to retain at least one of Oderizzi or Pineda, with my choice being Pineda (not expecting both and will not pay Gibson what he will want for his early 30's seasons. Twins have enough trade chips to make one deal for a decent starter and filling one from the minors is probably the plan. Do not see the Twins going away anytime soon (hitting may not be as good, but pitching should be better). bullpen is the biggest need, but you always can find decent bullpen help in the winter.
  2. Maybe packaging a couple of the 10 above with Rosario, would land a decent starting pitcher from a rebuilding ballclub, or even one that is light on prospects and values money. I have said that sending Rosario is the best starting block for a conversation on a starting pitcher. You need to fill 2 - 3 spots this winter, will not be easy without a trade.
  3. Yes it can, we just have to bring some of it to Minnesota. Certainly there are a few people who need to be replaced.
  4. Rodriquez to me has the ability of a #4 or #5 starter. He had a great year last year, this year not so good. His last start was very good, so there is hope. Still this leads to concern about the Twins front office, because Rodriquez and Anderson were both lost for nothing and have turned in value elsewhere.
  5. Question is can he control his fastball. If he can throw high strikes consistently, bring him up now. Fastball and either slider or changeup can be a devastating mix. Let's find out if he can make it up here.
  6. Article was great. Points out the value of very good starting pitching. Cleveland still has better starting pitching because they have found value from the starters they called up. Twins are still a little above .500 the last two months, despite the bullpen struggles. A lot of the credit has to go to the starters for getting us into a position to win games.
  7. What are your other options, hoping 3 - 4 rookies can cut it in one year. Scraping the bottom of the barrel and hoping one out of 3 - 4 work out. I have hopes some of the Twins Rookies will make decent bullpen pieces next year, not sure about the starters.
  8. A little over, but that is the price of decent pitching until you can develop some.
  9. Disagree, Pineda and Odorizzi have been ok and Pineda is getting better as the season goes on. Perez and Gibson are the issue and both should be gone after this season. Would QA one of both of Odorizzi and Pineda and hope to sign Pineda. Twins will never win until management either finds a way to develop pitching or spends like $80 million per year more on pitching in the FA market, starting with the Houston FA on the way out.
  10. It seems to be done with smoke and mirrors, we shall see when they face better hitting clubs. Hand is looking like he needs an IL breather, so we shall see how Cleveland's bullpen holds up against well above average major league lineups.
  11. It's only about 5 games and Cleveland could do that the next two weeks with 7 against the Yankees, and I think they have 3 against Houston also.
  12. Some on mlbtraderumors have now dismissed the Twins and expect them to miss the playoffs, with Oakland and Tampa Bay outlasting them. This could happen, but was a strange deadline this year. Indians may well get Kluber and Carrasco back (no one knows how effective they will be), but Kluber in good form is an ace and that would give Cleveland 2 aces and a near ace. Also still would leave them with a horrible bullpen, so who knows. Next two weeks are critical and we will see if Cleveland's bullpen can hold up against very good lineups. Cleveland has been playing out of their mind and if this continues, might well have the best record in baseball at the end of the year.
  13. Gaterol is my first choice here. It is probably too late to stretch him out, so use him as a one or two inning option. If Perez fails tonight, do not car if we release him, only thing he would be in the pen is a long option. Krol who is in Rochester might be another option, seems to be doing well there. Then find one of the young kids in Rochester to be the 5th starter.
  14. looks like he will get the chance, against Cleveland.

  16. My one fear was that the Yankees would buy the extra bullpen pieces and just go with openers and bullpen. 7 - 8 great relievers was my biggest fear, and Cashman could not pull the trigger on that arrangement.
  17. Yes, but the Yankee rotation is a dumpster fire and ours is better. If Betances and Severino both return at full strength, the issue get a lot dicer, but if Twins continue to blow out Yankee starters they have a big issue. If Yankees are able to do effective bullpen games for how long the series lasts, then the Twins have a problem. Odds of this are small.
  18. I think we are on a par with NY. They did nothing and we addressed our bullpen. Twins and Red Sox exposed the Yankees starting rotation, and if our starters and relievers can somewhat hold them in check we can win that matchup. Astros are the favorites, no doubt. Cleveland balanced their club, but depending on how there injured starters return, may have less depth than was expected. Should be interesting, hope Dyson's night was just a hiccup.
  19. For the record from what I have seen 1. Gallen upside was a #3/#4 type starter, sometimes that type pitches well for a while. 2. Syndergard was available if you wanted to make the Mets clear trade winners. Buxton or Kirloff/Lewis seemed to be the starting ask, this is a no go. However this winter if you cannot sign Buxton to an extension and feel you never will, then maybe you can see if Syndergard will sign an extension here and make a deal on these lines. Aces are very hard to find, that is why they are the highest valued pieces around. Lewis is probably going to be a better hitter than Buxton and just slightly less of a fielder, so to me this is possible.
  20. It was a seller's market. Most seller's was wanted overpays for better players. Would have liked more, but given the parameters, Twins did fine. Astros became the favorite, it will still be difficult.
  21. I am in agreement that doing nothing is not an option. Let's get it done.
  22. Will Smith given where the Giants are now will not be available. I could see a Bradley, Givens, Greene, or others, Jake McGee from Colorado etc. Just go get 2 - 3 of them.
  23. Greinke has Twins on no trade list, but that was probably from when they looked bad, it may pay to checkout if his stance is willing to change and what it would take to get it to change. If you pickup up all the money in the contract, prospect return might not be out of site, but 2 prospects in the 7 - 15 range. That to me would be doable.
  24. commented in a different thread, I feel that Toronto decided to trade Stroman to the NL without a much higher offer from an AL club. I think we look for 2 - 4 relievers, and take some chances that may be cheap. McGee from Colorado, Bradley or Givens, Maybe one of the Marlin ones. but most of them have 2 - 3 years of control. If you only get one, maybe try Gastrol or others there. Against the Yankees or Astros, you have to plan on averaging 4 innings of relief per game. Right now the Twins have about 2. You only carry 4 starters in the playoffs, so you could have 9 relievers, do the math and fix the holes. Greene from Detroit, might be another choice along with some of the Pirates or Cincinnati relievers (Igalcias) or possible others. This can be done without emptying the farm system. Then in the winter if you cannot sign Romero or Buxton to long term contracts, you possibly sell them for a front line starter.
  25. I would love an ace, but Mets seem to want to buy low (they won the Stroman trade) and sell very high. Mets have a new GM who wants to prove NY can get what they want. Work on relievers. but I bet prices come down today or tomorrow from the selling teams. Greinke would be nice, but Twins are on his no trade list for a reason. Problem is that the Twins need relievers known for their control as we all have seen that umps swallow their right arms, if the relievers are known to have control issues, against the Yankees. May and Duffey have the curveballs that work well against the Yankees, but they hang way too many of them. Maybe Jake McGee and Givens or Bradley (they would not cost an arm or a leg) would work. All have stuff, just on off years, but we all know how fast relievers can turn things around. Might touch LeClerc, but control may be too big an issue and he comes with a lot of control to sell very low on. Maybe because the Twins farm system is good, a lot of these sellers will seem to think they can set a high price and make a point that if the twins will not meet the price to sell elsewhere. Toronto seems to have made a decision to sell Stroman to an NL club, so if he works well they would not have to see him also. Good luck, but the Twins have to make deals for at least 2 relievers if not 3 down this road.
