  1. I think it was noted in another thread that there are plenty of expendable pieces on this 40 man roster at this time. Cave looks like a 4th outfielder and I agree he will have to fight of Wade next spring, Austin looks like a decent platoon player and the Twins will need his bat next year against LHP. Drake I do not know what to make of, and have little feeling if the Twins need to keep him on the 40 man or not. Twins have a lot of young pitchers to look at and will need spots for some of them, or maybe some of the young relief pitchers will be deemed expendable.
  2. Forsythe is going to take the first reasonable contract he sees this offseason and not wait and see what developes. Not moving now or at the end of the season if you choose to wait, could mean either you overpay or have to take a lessor option than you currently have. I like defense at second to offense. If you think Dozier is coming back, he was not even offered an extension here. That is very telling.
  3. Second base market (along with SS) is not great this winter. You are going to pay more for Escobar than you expect. I have seen articles that the Twins approached his representitives about an extension and where turned down. That does not bode well for his signing here, Forsythe is not the greatest, but would be a one year reasonably priced bridge to the Twins system, which should have several options close to ready by 2020. If he does well and the Twins do not flip him, if he does not do well you can cut him lose mid season without a big loss. Would rather spend the frontline money on pitching and signing the core (Rosario, Sano, Berrios) to long term deals and not let them get too close to FA where the grass could well be greener on the other side of the fence.
  4. You need a most of the time shutdown bullpen in the current major league structure. Twins are at least two arms short of being anywhere close to shutdown. If we wish to contend in 2019 this cannot be an area we can wait and see in.
  5. Twins are going to need Forsythe for next year whether or not they resign Escobar. Gordon does not look ready and other options are 1 to 2 years away. Forsythe will not be the offensive threat Dozier was, but will probably be the better defender. This would also give the Twins the option of Sano playing first and Escobar if resigned playing third. I just do not see Twins giving Mauer the money he would be happy with, so this would be plan A, you could always circle back to plan B if you do not resign Escobar. My biggest issue would be that Forsythe could take the first decent contract offered and you may not get a chance at resigning him if you wait too long to see what develops in the market. Whether you resign Forsythe now or wait until the market opens, I feel this would be plan A. Forsythe may just be one of those players who plays better in a less stressful market. He will do fine here.
  6. I believe we need to sign 1 or 2 top flight or upper tier relievers this offseason. this is far from a shut down bullpen. The rest of this year should be focused on which of the AAAA relievers should be here or given a chance to be here next spring. Why Beliese is still on the roster is a mystery to most of us posters here. Rest of the club will be OK, but shoring up the bullpen should be priority one for the FO.
  7. Bigger issue would be the perception that Buxton's camp might have if he is doing well in AAA. Don't call him up and give you control until 2022, and you risk his camp telling you if he goes very well during 2019-2020 that he will not be extending with you, so trade him now to a club the will appreciate him or walk away for a comp pick after 2022. And you would have to do it offseason 2020 to get any good value or as we have seen every day after that the players value goes down.
  8. A lot of the promotions will have to do with the minor league clubs contending or not for the post season. The top two levels are not, so some promotions are in order (do not know if Chattanooga made the playoffs from the first half). The lower Twins clubs are all playoff contenders, so would not expect much movement there unless for injury.
  9. Twins know what they have with the rest of the pitchers, this is for his future with the Twins
  10. I believe the FO did not feel that Rodney could not be replaced for next year, so with the return this tantalizing pulled the trigger on the deal. For my money Twins have to evaluate the players that could have 40 man roster spots next year, this will open another spot to help in the process.
  11. Escobar can walk away at the end of the year. Do not know the odds on resigning him, but would like to get something for him (and the other rentals).
  12. I am losing faith in the new FO. I also thought Molly should have been fired weeks ago. My biggest fear is that the new FO is into their own guys, that the Twins will have players stolen from them as they seem to be on a mission to rid themselves of all TR ballplayers in the minors. Twins have a decision to make, it almost seems like the new FO does not believe a good team in under the rocks and may move a lot of players (including the current non performing young players) to get better prospects for 2 -4 years from now. I hope not, but some of their moves the last year are mysteries to me. And yes some players do not ever live up to their hype.
  13. Escobar makes sense for a decent 3 year contract or a QO. Dozier does not plan on being here after this year. Get what you can for Dozier, Escobar would need a bigger return for me.
  14. Escobar will be gone this winter unless we make him the best offer. If the FO thinks Sano will man third next year, second base will be our biggest issue as Gordon does not look ready at this time. We need to get what we can for the rentals and let the FO take care of the other issues in the offseason, if they do not do well then bring out the pitchforks.
  15. No that is 3 misses, almost as many as the TR regime had. Twins have a lot of young talent, yes you are going to lose some, but who have the new FO found to make up for the losses. Moya is the only one of the relievers in Rochester, I believe should be here now. The rest we shall see, but relivers are a fickle group. The new FO has a different set of parameters, we will win some and lose some, almost all teams have a player or two that got away. Just so we don't lose a star.
  16. Depends on how buyers view Escobar vs what else is out there. Think it will be very close to the deadline if Twins move him. More likely to me Twins move relievers or Dozier if 10 day road trip does not go well.
  17. That is what I consider his floor. His ceiling is much higher. Most likely to me at this time is that he is a slightly above average outfielder with a great defense and speed, and slightly below average hitting. I would not label that a bust.
  18. First of all, neither can be labeled a bust yet. Buxton rates to be at worst a 4th outfielder, and Sano if he gets his weight under control and fixes his swing, should be fine. I am sure a number of clubs would like to buy several of the Twins upper level players cheap. Just slow down and give it a year or two.
  19. Dispite all the handwringing I still think that if Sano gets his head on straight, he will be a big factor in the years to come. Buxton still has a floor as a very good 4th outfielder over the next 6 - 10 years. Guys like him (Rajia Davis) tend to stay around a long time. If Buxton can learn to hit as an average outfielder, he will be great. I like the new direction, as the new FO seems to be looking for players with speed and contact type hitters. This will make the Twins more competitive with their AB's in the next several years. Pitching was the area the old regime did not ever seem to figure out, like very much the new pitchers the Twins are bringing up the ranks, in fact at the minor league levels the current Twins farm clubs seem to have more problems with hitting than pitching. That is a very big change for this orgainization (and a welcome one).
  20. Since at the current time Dozier is not worth a QO, unless you think weare catching the Indians, sell him for the best offer
  21. Interesting set of players. One item I am noting is that the Twins seem to be moving more toward contact and drive hitters and not the swing and miss or hit it a long way types. I like the new approach and am very interested to see how it plays out in the next couple of years.
  22. If you are not sold on Garver, why not pay Ramos like 4/$60 to cover the gap. Twins have very little in payroll the next couple of years, so an overpay or a good contract will not be out of the ballpark to cover this gap.
  23. Sano's issues surfaced only later after some success in the majors. It is possible that can happen, but not as likely (we have all seen some players like that, but it usually starts with an ultra high level of batted plays in play to hits).
  24. I agree it is going to be a strange market. My worry is that teams like the Astros and Yankees both with great farm systems use this market to buy controlable assets at cheap prices because of the great number of bad teams more than 3 years from contending and how MLB will address this in the future.
  25. Morrison at the current time has zero value. He will clear waivers and be looking at a minor league deal to regain value (or maybe a look see from a bad team). We are wasting AB's on him now. Plus maybe setting up a grievance if he gets close to his plate appearances guarantees.
