  1. My guess is the Twins sign one pitcher or trade for one. We have about 8 pitchers (starters) a year away. If we do not find out if they can make it, we risk losing the wrong one is a trade. Of the 8 ususally about 2 will make it as starters, so I am ok with flying a bit this year and then filling what we need next year.
  2. Well reasoned out. I hope the Twins sign Minaya. I like Rodriquez as an option for the Twins. Not a big fan of Boyd, who might need to locate his stuff, and some of that (command ) cannot be easily learned. There are others, we shall see today.
  3. I think Celestino or Gordon. Kepler could be traded for pitching (think Marlins). We need players to step up, Kepler seems to be now in the what you see is what you get.
  4. Mets look like they are printing money, according to MLB traderumors they have offered Scherzer like over $120 million for 3 years. Question is now, with clubs betting the luxury tax may be higher, will the players union draw a line and insist on a floor and raising the top well above what it is now.
  5. Maybe he will become the everyday right fielder, replacing Kepler after next year
  6. I feel most of the PED users will have to wait for the veterans committee to get in that is not bad. I agree there are several who probably got enough help to not justify getting in.
  7. I don't think Cave makes this team out of spring training if Buxton is gone. This will not be resolved early as I feel Buxton's fate will not be known until a new CBA is in place. Too many issues for teams that are close or over the threshold to have a full market. Also despite buxton's claim he wants to be here, we don't know what his reps are telling the Twins. Berrios with his public statements did not want to be. Tough position for the front office to be in. I think they will ride it, because they are not going to get anywhere close to full value for Buxton this winter, but solution would be an extension, but don't know if that will happen.
  8. So does Jax, whose ceiling seems to be multi-inning reliever. Since I don't know the rules as well, maybe the Twins can put a few of these players together and get a better player from a team not that is not going to be competitive until at least 2024. Expect most trades will be held off until after the new CBA, since there is a lot that can affect viewpoints not defined at this time.
  9. I am talking about the national writers who are on the coast (most of them) and tend to write stories about moving good to great midwest players to the coast teams, and some of this is by overvaluing prospects in those systems. Same thing is going on now in basketball, where you get at least one national writer a week posting a story about how unhappy Towns is here and he wants to move to a contending coast team.
  10. Think the A's would want closer to the majors pitching. That to me would be one of the Twins or two of the Twins top 4. Would depend on what they want. Would not give two even for both. We shall see. If the Twins are not going to spend money to extend these players, might as well fly with what we got and hope 2 - 3 out of 10 work out.
  11. Verlander went for $25 million for 2022 with an option for the same in 2023. Prices are rising, twins please take note.
  12. Dominguez is supposed to be totally off limits. The other two would not be enough. We will soon see what happens. Otherwise it will be after the new CBA because taking on salary with an extension would be risky for a big market team. Twins will never get full value if Buxton is a one year rental.
  13. No the Yankees and the Mets have pumps that overvalue to the large audience, their farm system. Padres and Dodgers are much deeper. If that was the case why are the Yankees in the hunt for 1 - 2 pitchers in the upper end and 1 - 2 SS also in the upper end. Mike it does not make sense if the Yankee farm system was that good.
  14. Just remember also most national writers have a coast bias, so some of this may be trying to get Buxton to an east or west coast team. None of those teams (except maybe the Dodgers and the Padres) among the upper teams have a farm system to afford Buxton.
  15. Trading Buxton would not be OK with the fanbase, unless ownership is planning on selling the club, or just wants to make a lot of money (that will end when attendance drops to about 1 million as the Twins struggle). Just pay the man, Twins have enough young pitching to offset for the first 3 - 4 years with entry level contracts. Maybe the CBA has a part in this, but you are not going to get value from one of the clubs that is close to the salary (or expected salary cap). Just get it done and make us a contender again.
  16. I think they add the 4 and probably Enlow, also would add Palacios as the Twins might need a shortstop this year and he is a sleeper. Expect Vallimont to be taken, but doubt he is ready to be in a contenders major league bullpen. Gore and others will depend on whether they do a rebuild vs a reset (that is dependent on Buxton). Twins with the pitching coming could be able to do a quick rebuild and become more like Cleveland, with more resources to add hitters (plus our minor league hitters are probably better than cleveland).
  17. We are a mid market team, not a small market. Big difference, we can afford $150 payroll. With a winning team, this is easily doable. We have a ton of possible starters coming, no reason this could not be done. Trade value was fair, will work if Martin works out the be a jack of all trades knife and a good hitter. Still going backwards in not my idea for the twins.
  18. price of pitching is going up. Wonder if that means the Twins have made the decision to trade Buxton, as they are going to rebuild mode.
  19. Twins seem like they could have done this. It might be bad only the last 2 years (maybe). $19.5 million a year is not out of reach for a reliable starter. Twins blew this, unless he really didn't want to be here.
  20. He may have 3 years time to declare FA if passed through waivers, but they he would lose the salary, so if not claimed the Twins could hang unto him.
  21. Twins have much better pitchers with more stuff waiting a AA and AAA, why waste a roster spot, if nothing else see if he can be traded.
  22. The difference with football is the union sold out. About the worst type of pay scale where the middle tier makes little, because most of them can be replaced with someone cheaper and about the same talent level. I agree on the floor as it will force the small market teams to spend. Owners will probably never go for this, but also making 29 1/2 or 6 years which ever is less be the threshold may be closer to fair for all sides. Believe the owners will not buy anything close to this, as I feel a cap with significant penalties is the only way to somewhat level the field. Say $200 million with a 50% tax on overage the first year 75% the second, and 100% on the third may be the only solution.
  23. no to Wacha and Ottavino, Rest is OK, but would rather trade for a pitcher than sign Rodriguez. Would be ok with him other than the QO. Knebel is an undervalued pitcher I would like to have.
  24. I would also remove Dobnak and Garlick, hopefully they can be resigned as minor league options. A bad club may claim Dobnak, he is cheap starting pitching, but not the type you need to contend. I would rather sign 1 - 2 FA pitchers and use the other spot(s) for a revolving door for the 8 - 10 pitchers we have at AA and AAA, to see what we have before we have to trade them, or the roster crunch gets them next year.
  25. I am hoping they add Dobnak to the DFA roster moves. Or have him stashed in St. Paul until needed. See little need for a small upside pitcher like him.
