    It seems to be more of a numbers game and we have a lot of possible numbers. For the pitching staff I always felt 2022 was going to be a find out what we have year. And hope a lot it works out. Then fill the holes next off season.

    Saw Barnes was released and signed overseas, I think in Korea (according to mlbtraderumores). Look at Cleveland, they just seem to grow pitching prospects on trees. Hopeing we have the same success here. It may take another year to see what we have. Then you use money to fill the holes.

    Interesting group. Gore is one of the pitchers the Twins could lose in the rule 5, as he would be easy to stash and see what you have for a bad team. IF our pitching is really this deep, we could be in better shape than we know.

    We can all hope he returns, but it would not surprise me that the league adjusted and his stuff does not play well enough to continue on.

    I was with the 70 - 80 crowd, depends on how the young pitchers do. There will be some lumps, but maybe a couple will step up and we are better than we thought.

    Rijo to me is a pitcher you might offer as a sweetner or part of a deal for a major league starting pitcher now. He is a lottery ticket and it might bite us, but is also might help get a #2 or #3 starter with 2+ years of control.

    My biggest issue is that a couple of these guys will be 26 this year. That is old for a prospect and to me speaks of career minor leaguer for a few more years or maybe an independent league player if they love the game that much.

    without a trade, I don't see an easy path here. There are still 3 months, so we will have to wait.

    The plan I am seeing from many of you is to trade for some pitcher (x) with 1 to 3 years control. For that to work you are making two assumptions. 1. they will sign an extension here. 2. They will give us very good to great pitching. Neither is a given. And will cost major propects/pieces to get these #2 or #3 starters. We need to find what we have.

    It has, that is why some of the trade proposals for 2 year starters are taking 2 of the Twins top 5 or 6 prospects, plus possibly one major league piece.

    the only problem with the killer pen, is that it seldom works that all relievers have good years. And still no guarantee that one bad pitch here or there does not cost you. I can see signing one more great reliever (I wanted Knebel), but they should get some fallback options if they intend to compete this year. If not than this plan if fine, but don't expect a few of the prospects will fail, some will succeed later, and a few will come and do well from the start. That is a lot of pressure on the young pitchers, but we shall see.

    by next fall you are going to have a 40 man roster crunch, and need to know which of these pitchers are ongoing. Only way to tell for me is to give the major league innings and move them up and down if they struggle. Some will have to go up and down more than once. But trading the wrong ones will be fatal, unless the pitchers coming in are decent and will agree to extensions. I don't pretend to have access to or know the FO's take on these pitchers , but so far Ryan and Ober seem to do better than the pitch to contact types we have had here. If this doesn't work this FO will be gone, but let's give them a chance. Cleveland has had great sucess with this model, as has Tampa Bay. 2022 may be more of 2021 while we figure it out, but I hope starting in 2023, we will have the pitching to contend for years.

    Holtzhauer is one, I have never met him, but he is in our group. Brian Weikle is the other.

    Miami intends to compete next year, so I do not see them giving up one of their top pitchers. Luzardo, maybe, but there would be risk on both sides. Sanchez would be great, but Miami would want a lot more than Kepler for him. I could see Kepler and one of the twins better prospects might do it, but still think would be light (even with Laurach). You do not trade ace potential starters without a huge return. Rodgers and Meyer are propects and they would still want a big return for them, but I would kick the tires and see if there is a deal.

    Interesting, a hobby group I belong to has 2 Jeopardy champions. I know one of them personally. They are very smart.

    I could be wrong, but don't think Palacios is on the 40 man. So he could be taken in the Rule 5 draft when it is held. Don't think he will be, but it is possible.

    Outside of Miranda, non of these prospects excite me. However, if a major league player is moved, maybe Miranda starts with the Twins. Sending him back to St. Paul seem foolish.

    Dobnak is at best an AAAA pitcher, that is part of the 62 - 100 matra. I would rather give starts to any of the 8 starters the Twins have in the upper minors who are real prospects.

    I am hoping Winder will be here at the start of the year, with several others close behind. They cannot be blocked, so resigning a Pineda or the like seems to make the most sense. Be interesting to see the course the Twins take.

    I feel bare bones is more the approach this year. We need to find which of the young pitchers will make it and which are more AAAA quality. RIght now we have 8 - 10 young starters and several young bullpen pieces. Since we already have missed out on adding an ace or near ace pitcher, we now have to see if we have one in the farm system. There is a lot of near major league ready talent there, much of it will probably not work out, but by the end of 2022, I would like to have an idea of what holes need filling and which holes are filled. Most of the clubs now selling pitching what cost controlled young talent back. If you do this, you had better be sure not to give away the best of the farm system.

    NO!! I would rather fly with Gordon, and use Polanco as a stopgap until midseason and we find out if Lewis or Martin is ready and can be a shortstop. Palcious might be the other option and he should be in the mix also. Spend money on pitching.

    Too win the players , there has to be a floor, but MLB must force out the bad owner(s) (Pittsburg, Cleveland) and fix the stadium situations (Oakland, TB). Then you could afford a floor of like $100, and a hard cap around $225 million. Increase revenue sharing, but insist the money be spent (not put in the owners profits). All you are doing now is squeezing the marginal decent major league player (like programming, you can always find someone cheaper to do 90% of the same work as the player replaced). If you balance the money clubs have to spend (which floor and cap could be closer, but probably would not sell that to the owners), you at least give the lower clubs a chance to compete, not need lightning strikes or very good player development and management (like TB). Doubt any of this will happen, my guess is the mid level and lower level players will fold as spring training nears and they become concerned for their jobs. Hope I am wrong.

    My guess is the Twins sign one pitcher or trade for one. We have about 8 pitchers (starters) a year away. If we do not find out if they can make it, we risk losing the wrong one is a trade. Of the 8 ususally about 2 will make it as starters, so I am ok with flying a bit this year and then filling what we need next year.

    Well reasoned out. I hope the Twins sign Minaya. I like Rodriquez as an option for the Twins. Not a big fan of Boyd, who might need to locate his stuff, and some of that (command ) cannot be easily learned. There are others, we shall see today.

    Laurach, Kiriloff, maybe a signing. You just can't hit .230 and expect to play.
