  1. Jason Castro and his elite level framing skills would be an ENORMOUS upgrade at the catcher spot. Suzuki was so awful at that skill (as well as blocking pitches) that the Twins may not realize how bad they have had it for years until someone comes in who can play competently. Aaron Gleeman mentioned it in his recent podcast, but he could see the Twins saying their starter and backup catcher are not currently in the organization. Unless Murphy can turn it around (which I think he will) I am good with that possibility. Catcher is a position that the Twins ABSOLUTELY need an upgrade.
  2. If Escobar is 100% healthy I am totally on board with him being the SS opening day ongoing. He just, well, he didn't play this year like someone who is healthy. I'm hoping for the best for him, but we'll see.
  3. But with whip, the higher number is worse. Isn't a higher number for range factor generally a good thing?
  4. I am not very up on what it measures then, I assumed it did it's best to measure range, or what balls a player is able to get to. What does it measure?
  5. I don't know for certain that any players have been decided on which position they are going to play next year. Falvey is in charge now for roster configuration. What in the world would he put a guy back at SS that was such a trainwreck last year? I mean, maybe Polanco does get a LOT better this offseason to get anywhere close to league average (and that would take a LOT of progress) but with the (hopeful/probable) trade of Dozier to strengthen an area of weakness elsewhere (pitching/catching) wouldn't just sliding Polanco over to his more natural position make sense?
  6. We assume Vielma will be as good of a defender, we don't know how he will be at the MLB level. It is up to the front office to decide what is best. And no, I want Cozart personally both because I don't believe that Vielma is ready, AND that I don't think he will cost a ton to acquire in assets. If the Reds are needing two top 10 prospects, I probably look elsewhere. If they are ok with Palka and a GCL arm, I am on board 100%. That said, it would probably land somewhere in the middle.
  7. It means that Gordon's range is just as good if not better at the same levels as Lindor and Boegarts were (4.88 is a higher number than either 4.59 or 4.28) so Gordon, statistically, got to more baseballs in the FSL than either Lindor or Boegarts did at the same age. Fielding percentage also, Gordon's was .952, Lindor .952 and Boegarts' .958. All fairly similar. This is not saying he will be the same as either of those two. But for age, and at the same level, he producted similar or better results than either of those two did. That is a VERY good sign.
  8. Still LOVE this idea. Cozart for 2017 (or most of it) to bridge the gap. He is an amazing defender, and the pitching staff will love having him playing behind them.
  9. Gordon will be the guy 2018 ongoing. I can't wait! 2017 will be interesting for who will cover the position, but Gordon will definitely help.
  10. Prospects, or at least one good prospect who is on the cusp who is AA/AAA. Because the Twins are rebuilding, I would not want a 28, or 25 year old pitcher who has already had time in the majors. The exception would be someone like Chris Archer, but Tampa isn't giving him up.
  11. The other fun thing that could happen if the CBA doesn't change all that much; the Twins could potentially take whoever they think is the best player at #1, and still potentially sign someone like Scherff (if he isn't among the top 8 or so drafted) with their top pick in the 2nd round.
  12. That all sounds good to me. I'd be all for it. Can't say I've heard his name much before you started mentioning him. I'll have to read up more about him. Thanks!
  13. Agreed. Everything says his slider could potentially become plus, but by no means is it there yet. He has a changeup too, but who knows. If Falvey and company truly believe they can mold him, then I'm all for it. But there is obvious risk associated with someone who is a pitcher and only has 1 true pitch. Still, at 17, there is a ton of development that can still happen, and he is very athletic, so he has all of that going for him. That said, if there were a college arm with 2 plus pitches and even an average 3rd that could become plus, that would be an easy pick come draft day.
  14. Related question in Law's chat today... Any other names moving up your list for '17 that could unseat Kendall or Greene? Seems like those guys are almost sure bets to go top 2 or 3. Those are the clear top 2 for me. Wright is right up there. Adell has the tool set to make a big run up the board, but he's not going to face great competition in the spring and I think some teams will consider him too risky for a pick that high.
  15. Keith Law answered my question in his chat today. 72c17703ab7e0ac472dd075cd88912be?d=identicon Cory Why should my Twins take Hunter Greene #1 in the draft, over Wright/Faedo or a position player I'm not sure they should do that, as good as Greene is. There's certainly risk there, HS pitcher risk as well as questions about how good the breaking ball is going to be down the road.  17:35
  16. That said, whatever the offers are this year (and you could argue at least 2-3 teams would see Dozier as a HUGE upgrade over what their currently have at 2nd base) that whatever those offers are, they are not going to be higher a year from now, or even at the deadline. Maybe I'm wrong, but Dozier having a career year this year certainly made it so the offers will never be higher. If the new GM and Falvey don't think they are getting requisite value now for Dozier, they will like the offers that come in a year even less.
  17. It'll be fun when/if the Twins do trade Dozier/Santana et al to see where the players they get line up on some of these lists. Thanks for writing it up, it's fun to read.
  18. Where would you have listed Engelb Vielma? Is he #16 for you? He is #16 in MLB.com. I feel like his glove/defense can play in the majors now, and personally I would have listed him higher on the list, over at least Walker/Palka/Reed for different reasons. I do still love Lewis Thorpe, but hopefully he can come back healthy at some point too. Also, Ben Rortvedt. He is #7 on the Twins prospect list on mlb.com. He certainly has as much or more potential as any catcher currently in the system, even if he is a long ways off (kind of like Kiriloff in that sense.) Where would he rank in your top 20?
  19. Stewart, to me, seems like someone who's stuff could play up better with some of the training techniques that Falvey is potentially bringing from Cleveland. He is still very young (5 years younger than Alex Meyer by the way, and Stewart turned 22 about 1 month ago) and has only been a full time pitcher since he was drafted with the Twins. I think starting the year repeating at AA for him, with possibly some new and improved instruction, could really help with his development. Plus, even while he wasn't striking many out, at the very least the contact he gave up was soft contact.
  20. Sorry, difference of opinion. I don't trade an up the middle prospect for a pitcher, -maybe ever. Everyone else fine
  21. Thrylos, you continue to say that Gordon is not needed. Now maybe he won't stick at Shortstop. Who knows. But to say we don't need him because the twins have an amazing shortstop in Polanco is ridiculous. By no defensive metric was he even just below average last year. I know the twins maybe screwed with his development by not playing him at short, but who is to say he would be even league average if he had played there all year? What did he show anyone that he is a major league caliber shortstop? If anything you move him to 2nd where he may be league average and have Gordon or Vielma or someone from the outside covering short. Trusting that to Polanco seems folly at best
  22. Jeremy, none of us say it enough, but thank you for the work that you do on here. It is always good discussion, and reading about the potential players is exciting. I appreciate it.
  23. Yeah I can't see the Twins cleaning house completely. If anything wouldn't they just want to be adding/doubling the amount of staff they have, and then let chips fall where they may? New GM, new Scouting Director, new director of minor league development, double the amount of scouts (for example) and then let the people in the current roles stay on if they choose with different titles. Then, over the next 2-3 years, work it all out at that point?
  24. High 80's seems low for how hard I've read Wright throws. I don't have a good link in front of me, but he throws a fastball in the low to mid 90's, a heavy high 80's sinker, and a curve/slider in the low 80's. Keith Law has put him as his favorite for #1 (along with Faedo) and says the two of them project as top or the rotation arms. That said, I don't know if Law has seen Greene pitch yet. And we are still 9 months out, so a LOT could change.
