    That said, whatever the offers are this year (and you could argue at least 2-3 teams would see Dozier as a HUGE upgrade over what their currently have at 2nd base) that whatever those offers are, they are not going to be higher a year from now, or even at the deadline. Maybe I'm wrong, but Dozier having a career year this year certainly made it so the offers will never be higher. If the new GM and Falvey don't think they are getting requisite value now for Dozier, they will like the offers that come in a year even less.

    It'll be fun when/if the Twins do trade Dozier/Santana et al to see where the players they get line up on some of these lists. Thanks for writing it up, it's fun to read.

    Where would you have listed Engelb Vielma? Is he #16 for you? He is #16 in MLB.com. I feel like his glove/defense can play in the majors now, and personally I would have listed him higher on the list, over at least Walker/Palka/Reed for different reasons. I do still love Lewis Thorpe, but hopefully he can come back healthy at some point too. Also, Ben Rortvedt. He is #7 on the Twins prospect list on mlb.com. He certainly has as much or more potential as any catcher currently in the system, even if he is a long ways off (kind of like Kiriloff in that sense.) Where would he rank in your top 20?

    Stewart, to me, seems like someone who's stuff could play up better with some of the training techniques that Falvey is potentially bringing from Cleveland. He is still very young (5 years younger than Alex Meyer by the way, and Stewart turned 22 about 1 month ago) and has only been a full time pitcher since he was drafted with the Twins. I think starting the year repeating at AA for him, with possibly some new and improved instruction, could really help with his development. Plus, even while he wasn't striking many out, at the very least the contact he gave up was soft contact.

    Thrylos, you continue to say that Gordon is not needed. Now maybe he won't stick at Shortstop. Who knows. But to say we don't need him because the twins have an amazing shortstop in Polanco is ridiculous. By no defensive metric was he even just below average last year. I know the twins maybe screwed with his development by not playing him at short, but who is to say he would be even league average if he had played there all year? What did he show anyone that he is a major league caliber shortstop? If anything you move him to 2nd where he may be league average and have Gordon or Vielma or someone from the outside covering short. Trusting that to Polanco seems folly at best

    Jeremy, none of us say it enough, but thank you for the work that you do on here. It is always good discussion, and reading about the potential players is exciting. I appreciate it.

    Yeah I can't see the Twins cleaning house completely. If anything wouldn't they just want to be adding/doubling the amount of staff they have, and then let chips fall where they may? New GM, new Scouting Director, new director of minor league development, double the amount of scouts (for example) and then let the people in the current roles stay on if they choose with different titles. Then, over the next 2-3 years, work it all out at that point?

    High 80's seems low for how hard I've read Wright throws. I don't have a good link in front of me, but he throws a fastball in the low to mid 90's, a heavy high 80's sinker, and a curve/slider in the low 80's. Keith Law has put him as his favorite for #1 (along with Faedo) and says the two of them project as top or the rotation arms. That said, I don't know if Law has seen Greene pitch yet. And we are still 9 months out, so a LOT could change.

    I take Wright. The only reason I take Greene is if Falvey truly believes Greene can be molded into an ace. I don't care if we have to wait longer, but if Wright is a true 1/2, and Greene is a true 1 with a bullet, I could see going for the higher potential. But yeah, as of now I'd take Wright. Thanks for doing this! I appreciate it.

    Didn't Jeremy Nygaard say that he has talked to scouts who still say Stewart is the best prospect in the rotation at AA (that included Gonsalves and Jay?) I know the stats/numbers don't back it up, but if he is still throwing mid 90's, that is still a solid prospect, no? Thanks for doing these lists! I really appreciate it.

    Any chance of signing SS/3B Lourdes Gurriel? Probably not, but he could help. Talented and young, and wouldn't have to give up anything but money.

    I think we would have to sign Cozart for 2018 ongoing (his contract is up after 2017.) He is coming off an injury filled 2016, and even though his first half was really good into and after the all star break, Cincinnati may not want to trade when his value is at his lowest. I know the Mariners almost got him at the deadline for what was rumored a top 7 pick of theirs (their system is not highly regarded, to say the least) so if it took a top 8 or 10 prospect from the Twins (think maybe Adalberto Mejia?) I'd think about it with the knowledge we are strongly increasing our infield defense for 2017.

    Zack Cozart could be had from Cincinnati. He would fill that elite defensive shortstop role very well.

    I have a feeling that Randy Rosario is much further down on your top 50 than he would be on others. Otherwise, great list and fun to read about all of the players.

    I think what needs to be added to this discussion is the obvious upgrade that needs to happen at catcher and at shortstop,at the very least. On top of that, this team may look VERY different in the field behind whatever they do with the pitching staff. If for example, we know that the Twins acquire (hypothetically) Zack Cozart to play SS and an above average defensive catcher to start 120 games, then I will feel better about the team/pitching staff as a whole. But, I do think there will be at least 2-3 new names not listed above who will be solidly in the mix before opening day. 1 free agent (Brett Anderson) and one starter acquired via trade (Dozier?) along with maybe Ervin (unless they trade him) et al.

    If you have 7 starters that could be in the majors, but you are LAST in ERA and K's for what feels like a lifetime (at least 6 years) do you really have any starters that should be on a major league staff? Isn't it imperative they try and acquire 1-2 starters (at minimum) who are above average major league starters? Then, if the rookies from AA come up and can help right away, great! Otherwise the Twins don't HAVE to depend on unproven players once again.

    Maybe as a player/coach? Would he be up for part time batting coach? If he produces, then all the better. If he simply can't play anymore, then let him go. But really, if he produces, are we as a fanbase going to be mad that someone who will never approach the career he had (Walker/Palka/Park) isn't getting his at bats? If he is DH mostly, and hits close to 2015, that is a plus for the team. If he gets here and hits like Torii Hunter post May 2015, then he will simply be more of a coach than a player. But you are right, if he still wants to play I bet it is in Miami.

    According to Fangraphs, Joe Mauer has so far through his career been worth $274.5 million. To pay less than 200 million overall for that production (including the next 3 years) has been a GREAT deal for the Twins. Yes, he has had some concussions. No, he is not able to play the sport at the same level as in 2009 because he didn't have a traumatic brain injury at that time. Traumatic brain injuries effect everyone differently. No, Joe Mauer's contract does not stop the Twins from spending whatever they want on any other players. No, money in sports, and with celebrities, is not like the rest of us. To compare your 50k per year job to a sports athlete, especially one that was playing at a hall of fame level until he got injured, is just not fair. Yes, he can still get on base. That is not something easily taught, and is frankly amazing what with having multiple concussions. Maybe the sunglasses will help him see better during the day, and he can be a better player going forward. And finally, if he wasn't one of the best current players on the team, he wouldn't be playing as much. To say that Vargas demands time over him is laughable.

    Thanks for the update! Pinto is now in the Brewers system. I'm hopeful that Murphy can take the reins as the new catcher this year.
