Turner would be fun, but as others have stated, do the Twins actually have the financial flexibility to sign any significant free agent? We all would love to sign a “backup” CF, a relief pitcher and one of these hitters. But we would also love it if Tony O’s Cuban sandwiches didn’t cost $35 next year. Maybe that’s just me…

Curious to spend $20M on 2 solid regulars with so many cheaper options lined up behind them in light of the lack of clarity on TV revenue. If we swing a TV deal, do we keep them? How large of a factor is external revenue? Sign these two, offer arbitration to everyone in that situation, and bring ‘‘em all to Fort Myers. Hopefully there will be some financial clarity in 3 months.

I’m not sure Varland should stay in the pen. We will have at least 8 and more likely 10ish guys make starts next year. Paddack will need rest at some point, and Ryan/Ober/Varland will probably fill 2 and sometimes 3 spots in the rotation. We will likely see Festa and SWR, maybe Lewis, and I can even dream about Raya (although ‘25 seems much more likely). Even if we get 30 starts from Pablo and the next 4 average 25 starts (not likely), we still need 32 more starts from others. Appreciate this conversation. I haven’t felt this good about Twins pitching for a long time, and I’m juiced for the offseason to see what it brings.

The Twins Would Be Wise to Trade Kyle Farmer
Brett replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would bet the Twins offer arbitration to Farmer and sign Polanco both. Maybe by spring training, there will be an injury somewhere that opens up the trade option. Lee and Martin will certainly be in St Paul to start the year, then we’ll see if one of their performances merits a change.- 50 replies

Are the Twins Closer to a World Series?
Brett replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think we’re just a Buxton away. And not the hurt DH variety, but the XBH-robbing, base-stealing, did-you-see-how-far-he-hit-that Buxton that we know is in there.- 40 replies

What we plan in CF next year drives a lot of this. Will Buxton be able to play the position? How many games could Castro cover? Are we serious about putting Lewis out there? I wish Martin had been called up at some point so we could see him under the bright lights. Now he’s just untapped potential with a high OBP at AAA. And he’s a righty bat. if we roll with Martin and Castro, we chance rookie struggles and a Gordon-esque regression. If we roll with Buxton, we risk TD boards filled with clinical diagnoses. If we re-sign Taylor, we risk the clutches of Father Time. As winter closes in, I look forward to the lamentations, prognostications and the clear, unbridled optimism of spring. Win Twins. And go Twins Daily.

That roster looks solid, although If Lewis can’t go, Castro will play more infield and then we need Luplow. I wish Buxton would grab a couple of hits this weekend in St Paul. Not sure he’s ready to see major league pitching yet.

Byron Buxton's Playoff Role Might Be Big Bench Bat
Brett replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Playoffs start in less than 2 weeks, so I just don’t see it. Don’t get me wrong….I would love to see Buxton patrolling CF and striking fear into opposing pitchers again…that would be awesome. But we’re Twins fans, and we haven’t had awesome since ‘91.- 58 replies

Louie Varland is the X-Factor in the Twins' Bullpen
Brett replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A playoff bullpen with at least 2 of Varland, Maeda, and Ober is better than a regular season bullpen of at least 2 of Sands, Winder, and Balazovic. Can we just skip to the end and start the playoffs next week? -
How Did the Buxton Process Go So Horribly Wrong?
Brett replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is it possible the front office made the CF or bust proclamation so there’s no way he comes back to DH? Either you play the field or you stay in rehab. No more middle ground. -
The Twins Must Use Byron Buxton in Center Field
Brett replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t know if you’re playing Captain Obvious or just messing with me…but for the love of all that’s holy YES I want to see Buxton back in CF before I die.- 47 replies

It seems like the players the Twins invest heavily in never provide the return that the fans expect. And injuries seem to plague most of the young players that generate the most hype. I don’t need to name names, because you’ve already done so in your head. What bothers me is the Twins have to manage these players through these situations with days off and convenient stretches on the injury list. Where are the guys you can plug into the lineup 150 games a year?

I think “we get that; we’re Twins fans” is the best line I’ve seen all year. 6 words have never said so much.

I don’t suppose Festa, Balazovic, and Headrick all had subpar outings so they wouldn’t be attractive trade targets…? Nah, I’m sure human nature never figures into these situations.

Twins Trade Jorge Lopez to Marlins for Dylan Floro
Brett replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did not see this coming AT ALL. I wonder what other trade candidates the front office has in mind that we have no idea about. -
I like the parallels. Lovable loser home team gets hot, wins division, and beats the Yankees in the playoffs. And Duran throws even harder than Wild Thing.

5 Offensive Trade Targets On Expiring Contracts
Brett replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is it better to acquire one of these guys and hope they hit something close to their career norms, or to hold serve with Correa and Buxton and hope they start hitting like theirs? Does the front office play this probability game every day? This kind of pressure must be immense.- 17 replies

I like the logic, but I don’t see the front office pushing their chips in for this type of move. On the whole, we seem to be better at developing prospects than pulling off trades.

It seems like utility players and relievers will have quite a bit of variation year to year. I’m sure many of us thought that Nick Gordon would be a key piece after last year. Maybe next year is Michael Helman’s time to shine. When Gordon comes back, do you part with Farmer instead? Or Solano? Or everyone’s least favorite .780 OPS, Gallo? Tough call.
