  1. I would agree on Staumont. That seemed like a pretty intentional signing. In related news, it appears the Saints bullpen will be loaded as well.
  2. Instead of buying a card and flowers, I showed your virtual cards to my wife…and she thought they were cute! Thanks Melissa!
  3. There’s a lot to unpack here. First off, as a certified old fart, I understand and appreciate your quarter life crisis. Mine didn’t come until the age of 31, then a couple since. They have their own schedule. I’m happy that your appetite for self-harm seems to be limited to an occasional Baconator. Next is the correct usage of “expurgating”, which even auto correct doesn’t know what to do with. Finally, the answer to your question is anytime the Damn Yankees beat us in the playoffs. I hate those guys.
  4. Maybe we’re going with 4 starters and 10 in the bullpen. Starters go 4 innings, then 5 one-inning relievers in a row. Yes, I’m kidding. Please. Somebody tell me I must be joking.
  5. Thanks Seth, another great summary of a potential Twin! It seems like we have several college arms that profile as starters. It will be fun following their careers, especially the ones who weren’t high draft picks — they have great stories! Happy birthday to Darren!
  6. That’s an excellent write up. Now I feel like I should have appreciated him more while he was here.
  7. He may not fit the preferred hitting profile, but he does fit the cost profile. He’s only 26 and hasn’t played 100 games in a year at the major league level. My guess is one more year as the preferred incumbent, but he has to stay healthy.
  8. Still not sold on this guy. I think the Twins got a better return on the trade because they took him off their hands. With that said, and as my wife will tell you, I’ve been wrong before. Kinda hope I am here too.
  9. I’m not sure DeSclafani is better than Varland as a starter. I’m not sure Topa is better than Varland as a reliever. Maybe Varland starts the year in St Paul and waits on one of them to flame out. Is that too easy of an answer? I still feel like I’m playing checkers while some of you (and, hopefully, Falvey) are playing chess.
  10. Seems like we raised the floor slightly but didn’t raise the ceiling. Does the presence of another top 100 prospect make it easier to trade one of them for a playoff-level starter? Or do we sign a TV deal and grab Jordan Montgomery? mmm…something must be cooking on the Hot Stove.
  11. Now there’s room on the 26 man for Gordon and Castro, so we swap hitting for flexibility in the field. Interesting. Maybe this is the first move of two. The new OF prospect might make it easier to trade ERod.
  12. So much value in having a guy like Polanco in the 2 hole. If he’s actually traded, do you see Correa and Lewis sliding up with Buxton batting 3rd? It would be great to see Lee or Martin up towards the top of the order, but that probably wouldn’t be until later in the year.
  13. Hey Cody, I think you hit a nerve here. 65 comments in just 4 hours! Not germane to the topic, but does TD have some analytics going on the writers? Whose writing gets the most clicks? Who draws the most commentary? I look forward to some day looking at the TD feed and having a writer’s stats at the top, headlined by CAR (Comments Above Replacement writer).
  14. I had always assumed Polo would be the right infielder to trade based on salary alone, and what appears to be a lot of infield depth. Farmer might bring a better return, but then you have to believe in both Castro and Gordon to play freely around the infield. It’s a tough call. I would like to keep everyone, but that’s because I mitigate risk for a living. We’ll see who stays healthy through spring training. That should ultimately decide who stays.
  15. The level of uncertainty with Buxton and broadcast revenue will keep the roster situation fluid until spring training, at least. Until we see our favorite CF actually in the field, we’ll be questioning whether he can play rather than how often. Just not sure if anyone is in a position to rescue us from a revenue standpoint, and how much effect it will ultimately have on payroll. With that said, it’s really nice to be discussing a couple of distinct roles on the 26 man roster rather than going into spring training with a few locks and way, way too much hope.
  16. I haven’t listened to a lot of games on the radio, so I’m excited to hear from Provus. Now we collectively need to campaign to get John Bonnes in the analyst rotation. It’s a step down from the celebrity bartender role, but he probably wouldn’t turn it down.
  17. Nick, this is not what I wanted for Christmas. Too soon.
  18. Can we trade for whoever is drafting and developing pitchers for the Marlins? That would be my preference.
  19. If Ohtani was more interested in a “safe” or “clean” city, wouldn’t he have chosen Toronto over LA?
  20. I agree that Kepler would be difficult to replace with the roster we have now. Of the two, Polanco is easier to replace if we absolutely have to cut costs (or repurpose $ for pitching). If Kepler is moved, there must be a corresponding move to bring in another corner OF option.
  21. That looks like a pretty solid look, and I wouldn’t argue with any of it. What’s the over/under on the number of those players who will be on the roster at the end of the season? I’m thinking 17.
  22. A couple of things… At $15M/year, Buxton only needs to be worth about 2 WAR to be “worth it” financially. If healthy, he should be able to pick that up in ~40 games if he’s roaming the outfield. With Keirsey not getting selected in the Rule 5 draft, we have some quantity of mitigation plans on the 40 man…Martin, Castro and Gordon are getting the press, but now Keirsey becomes an option as well. If we end up spending big money on a starter, maybe we can forget about spending on someone who can start 100 games in CF just in case Buxton is not up to snuff AND none of the youngsters have any staying power out there.
  23. Nice to see a post that puts the front office in a positive light. They have surprised us with some of their trades, and it’s very likely something is cooking that we don’t see coming.
  24. We’re asking a lot of Lewis, Correa and Julien to stay both healthy and effective for a whole year. Polanco and Farmer are an effective veteran mitigation plan, but there’s no guarantee one or both of them isn’t traded in order to save money. I can imagine a future without Lee, but it looks a lot like this year’s offense (without Gallo, but still). The future I would like to see is Lee starting in St. Paul and stepping onto the grass at Target Field. So yes, go get us a starter. But not at the cost of Brooks Lee.
  25. Hoskins would be super fun to watch, but I don’t see tying up half the payroll in 3 guys. Especially when none of them are pitchers. I like the other changes though. Well thought out.
