  1. Rocco is known as a players Manager. So it appears his feelings were hurt that a player spoke up!! Rocco is not the type of Mgr. that is right for this team. Castro forgot how many outs there were and then took two horrible routes to miss balls. Tom Kelly would have sat him for a game or two. Not Rocco. He just shrugged and said Play-on! Same with the team leading the League in called third strikes. And missing cut-off men! Rocco just watches. Maybe sending someone to St Paul when they take 2-3 called 3rd strikes in a series would wake up the entire team!! Not Rocco. He just smiles and collects his paycheck!
  2. You may have a couple good points but Rocco needs to pinch hit for him in key situations which he seems to always be coming up in. In close games with runners in scoring position he has been pathetic. Hitting weak ground balls or hitting into double plays. Having an automatic out come up in those situations has hurt the Twins in many of their losing games!
  3. No. A strong organization builds on what they have to get stronger. This season we had a chance at building a stronger pitching staff. But instead they let Gray go to save money hoping Varland would step in. He wasn't ready. So we took a step backwards. They just do what the Pohlads allow and that is to make money and not focus on going deep in the playoffs. That's why they hired Rocco. He is a "Yes" man who won't rock the boat. So if making money is the standard they are good. If going deep in the playoffs then not so much.
  4. Wow! With all due respect this has to be be one of the most off base articles I have ever read!! Does the writer watch any Twins games? Julien has a fielding range of 2 feet to his left and 2 feet to his right. It is NOT improving as the writer claims. Made another key error yesterday to fuel an Oriole rally. His strikeout rate from the last 6 weeks of last year through the start of this year is almost Sano-Like!! The league appears to have figured him out. Brooks Lee should be called up when fully healthy and then worked in at 2nd. He could be the long term solution. Maybe this author should try something different than writing about baseball!!
  5. The problem with your scenario is you don't mention they did this deal at the same time they let Gray and Maeda go. So they were counting on the oft-injured acquisition to replace them. He was NOT just a throw-jn as you portrayed. And the TV contract got done with a small increase so that was a smokescreen to cut payroll when we all knew it would get done!! Twins are in trouble on the Pitching side. They now need to win 7-6 games.
  6. Saying he is one of the most resilient players in MLB is a bit of a stretch. Resilient is being injured and coming back to play an extended period. He is resilient only to come back and get injured again. Like Buxton.
  7. Julien needs to be DH. His range is so limited at 2nd and he is horrible at turning the DP. Put Miranda at 2nd.
  8. His weight is s not the issue. He just can't hit breaking balls!! And his refusal to hit to all fields like Miggy did in Detroit is one of the most bull headed mistakes of all time.
  9. Wow! Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid!! You have checked off that requirement! All waiting does is move you down the list of quality players. You end up with other teams rejects. You are totally forgetting the quality innings from Gray. And we lost some defense with Polanco leaving and we have Julien left with the limited range and remember the last 6 weeks the league figured out Julien can't hit a cutter in on his hands and his strikeouts sky-rocketed! Almost Sano-Like! So that pitching is a definite fix-it NOW issue. Especially now that the TV contract is done and cant be used as an excuse any longer.
  10. Julien made HUGE improvements at 2nd? Really? Not many saw that. His range left and right is limited. His footwork on the DP remains lousy. Plus his strikeout rate the last 6 weeks after the league figured him out sky-rocketed!! Almost Sano-Like!
  11. In MN it means being a Total YES-MAN!!! Rocco is perfect. When the Twins refuse to make any moves to get him some middle relief he is content to say "We have some guys who need to step up and we will be Ok", knowing full well he had little talent in the Pen. Rocco repeats the Company line very well and will have a job regardless of his record.
  12. Nothing to do with Boras. Only to do with the Pohlad Bank Strategy. They are focused on the money and not on winning. So even though they spent a little more and produced a good team they are back to trying to operate on the cheap and balance out Correa money. So winning has once again been put on the back burner. The Fans also are ignored in all of their balance sheet balancing!
  13. Nice article. The one thing you missed was how unfortunate it was that Mauer had to play for a Cash Limited team and the highly negative impact his salary had on the team's performance for almost the entirety of his career. It kept the Twins from investing in quality pitching which again directly impacted the team's performance. The easiest verification of this truth was the first year Mauer was gone. The Twins took his 20++ million contract and signed 4 solid players at 5 Million each. They all performed well, and the Twins won the division. This of course was not Joe's fault. It was the Pohlad's realization that they had signed the Local Kid and that he alone would sell tickets, so the focus on winning could take a back seat for the years of the Mauer career.
  14. Why always going after the injured players to cover for other injured players. We don't need another iffy player regarding health issues.
  15. The league caught on to Julien the last 6 weeks. His K's skyrocketed. He showed he can't hit cutters in on his hands. He may be another Miranda. Plus his range at 2nd is horrible and with our loss of pitching defense will be key. Trade ASAP while he has value!!
  16. The offset to his offense is his very poor range at 2nd. He has limited range and poor footwork and an average arm on double plays. With the pitching staff taking a step back with losses of pitchers that defense will be critical. Plus at the plate the last 6 weeks raised red flags that he may be another Jose Miranda and that means the league may have caught on to him and started throwing cutters in on his hands. His strikeouts skyrocketed. Just like happened to Miranda. So, he is definitely not a lock as some may think. We all thought Miranda who be at third for years to come. Same could happen to Julien.
  17. Good article except you may be a little over the top on Julien. He has very poor range in the field and is very slow on the double play turn. Horrible footwork. And the last 6 weeks of the year his K's sky-rocketed. It appears the league may have figured out that a cutter in on his hands is the way to get him out. So don't be so fast in dis-carding Polanco.
  18. Joe will eventually get in. Just not on the first ballot. That's reserved for a special level of player, usually with Clutch hits in big games. Joe didn't play in many big games and not a lot of clutch hits. Lots of singles and some doubles. Very good player but just not first ballot.
  19. Julien is the most over rated prospect in a long long time. His range at 2nd is very limited. His ability to turn the double play is limited. Poor footwork and very average arm. And at the plate the league figured out he can't hit a cutter in on his hands. That's why his K's sky rocketed the last 6 weeks. So if you can hoodwink someone into taking him for something of value do it!!
  20. Polanco is the most consistent 2nd baseman the Twins have had in years. He has lots of clutch hits and combines with Correa to make up one of the best double play combos in baseball. Unless they get a top starting pitcher and need him in a pkg deal they should keep him. Julien is awful in the field both in range and in turning the DP. And with our pitching staff now decimated the Twins will need those double plays. Plus it looks like the league figured out a cutter in on the hands will get Julien out every time. His strikeouts sky rocketed the last 6 weeks of the season.
  21. Great Guy in so many ways. Just not a First Ballot entry. It had always been that First Ballot had to be a "Cut-Above"! Recent years Baseball Writers have lowered the standards so he might make it under today's process.
  22. Wish Nightingale would quit reporting the Twins were cutting payroll because of the Bally Contract!! Every team that has resigned or found a new vendor have seen a 20% increase. Somebody will pick up the Twins.
  23. No! Not is the class of Cruz. But lets put Lewis at first and bring up our prospects for 3rd. And just becuase Taylor is a Free Agent doesn't mean they wont resign him. Great defense and he hit 20+ home runs.
  24. This article has no basis in reality. Wish people would stop referring to the Twins losing their broadcast revenue. They ARE NOT! Every team that has renewed or FOUND A NEW PARTNER have seen at least a 20% increase in the contract!! If Bally drops out the Twins will find a new source. The money is just NOT going to disappear. Please stop saying that! It's embarrassing!
