  1. The Pohlads have a huge Credibility issue with Fans & Taxpayers. They sent Jerry Bell trotting around for months carrying their water. He preached time & again that if only the Taxpayer would fund a new stadium then the Twins would be able to increase payroll AND become COMPETITIVE!! As soon as the money was approved the plan changed. Yes, Payroll increased moderately for a short period. But then it started to be cut back to the previous levels and then to even lower levels which we see now. The question is "Was that ALWAYS the long-term plan"? Only the Pohlads and Jerry Bell know that answer! Now what? Only better players and a more serious commitment to winning would seem to be the answer. Are the Pohlads ready to change course and prioritize WINNING? If Falvey is given minimal funds to work with and if Rocco has to submit a lineup filled with AAA Players then nothing will change.
  2. Dumb Take. Twins are not good enough to have players playing at reduced effort! Royce has been up to bat in several key situations and just doesn't look comfortable. Maybe back to St Paul would help!
  3. He is Ok but the Twins need more from that position. Just like they need more from the Catching position when Jeffers is out.
  4. That Miranda play encapsulates the resume of Rocco Baldelli since being with the Twins! He doesn't focus on the basics like prior Twins Managers and it shows. Base running-Horrible, Throwing to correct bases-Horrible, Pitchers fielding their position - Horrible! A Cyber Metrics Mgr! No FEEL for the team. Only what his Dugout Binder tells him!!
  5. Ok article but you forgot one thing! RANGE! Julien has a range at 2nd of 2 feet left and 2 feet to the right. Just awful!!
  6. Team has several AAA Players on its roster. But just doing the basics has been lost since Rocco arrived. Outfielders don't play the wall well, they miss the cutoff man or throw to the wrong bases. Base running is atrocious. And none of it ever improves under Rocco! He just shrugs and stares off into the distance when in the dugout. Never gets mad at anyone. If he's mad at Miranda it will be a first! And how is Gasper on a Major League Roster?
  7. When you have to bat Gasper in a game winning situation in the 9th inning that tells you how bad this roster is.!! Then he doesn't even get a full swing! Incredible!
  8. Doesn't look ready for the Bigs. Needs to go to St Paul and dominate there before getting another shot. Hitting woes and his range in the field is very limited!!
  9. The Pohlads have been great for local communities and programs including building fields and hosting Twins Camps!! But as far as setting winning as a priority, not so much. Not spending on Pitching has been a key drag on winning. Spending to keep Mauer for a decade was great but then they didn't spend to put a competitive team around him. So it is time for a fresh look, with Winning as the focus!!
  10. This is the type of article the Pohlads love!! Just let us keep raising prices, while we field a team with several AAA Players on it and we keep our payroll low. Oh and thanks Taxpayers for building us a great new stadium which we will sell at a HUGE benefit at an estimated 1.5 billion!! But in the mean time please keep quiet!!
  11. Twins philosophy is "Pitching is Paramount'? Amusing comment. Thanks for the laugh. They had one of the best 1-2 combos with Pedro and Gray and they let Gray walk for a few more dollars. Just like they did Santana. It's NEVER about pitching being paramount. It's ALWAYS about the payroll. Its obvious that one of those pitchers should have been traded for a top line first baseman. Now we are stuck with a patchwork group at first and at several other positions due to the Pohlad payroll restraints! Welcome back to Twins Territory and 3rd place at best!!
  12. Would be funny if it was not so close to the truth! Since the Pohlads claim to love the city and the fans so much and that it has been such a privilege to own the team over the years (When those fans paid for a big chunk of the Stadium) why not go out with a bang and sign a couple big name deals to two year deals? Go up to 200 million a year for payroll for two years. That would be a nice thank you to the taxpayers who funded the stadium but still not burden the new owners with long term debt! It would more than be covered by the increased value of the Club that the stadium will provide during the sale negotiations!
  13. Maybe Pohlad will give the Fans a Gift for his last year and Pay some one year Free Agents to try and win. That way the new owner wouldnt be saddled with long term payroll but Twins and Pohlad could go out on a High Note!!
  14. This article totally ignores the fact the Twins are for sale! The Pohlads bought the Twins for 44 million. Sales price is 1.5 - 2 BILLION dollars!! So there is no reason to expect they will be in another cost saving mode. They are about to get a huge windfall profit. So payroll can go up some and transferred to the new owner!
  15. With a New Owner coming we should have more money to get REAL players in here!
  16. Veteran Pitchers made great strides? Huh? Who might that be?
  17. He is safe as long as Jim Pohlad is in charge. Cheap and does what he is told and keeps his mouth shut. Perfect Manager for Falvey and Pohlad. And saying he doesn't have the players doesn't explain the players he does have throwing to the wrong bases, not running the bases properly and not knowing how to play the wall. Those are all things Rocco has not fixed!!
  18. This article is exactly what ownership loves!! Simply put: The acceptance of mediocrity! The disappointing part of the Baldelli run is the lack of improvement in basic baseball fundamentals. Kepler is the only Twins outfielder who knows how to play the walls in the outfield. Then how about missing the cut-off men or throwing to the wrong bases? Then there is base running. Not taking the extra base or the opposite trying to take the extra base when it is obvious the runner didn't have the speed to do it. All of these things happened on a regular basis all year long. And because of the "Country Club" atmosphere Baldelli has created the players knew there would be no consequences. Rocco would only say "We need to do better" week after week after week! Maybe its an issue in St Paul. Is Gardenhire doing anything to teach Fundamentals with the Saints? If not get somebody in there that can. Its obvious the players are not prepared when they get to the Twins. The last issue is the management of the Pitching Staff. Even down the stretch during critical playoff deciding games Rocco still went with his Cyber Metric Que Cards that told him to remove hot pitchers to go Lefty/Righty Blah Blah Blah. There has to be a time where a manager uses his eyes to manage a game. Having a Pitcher who is on his game and hitting corners with a low pitch count just HAS to override the cyber metric numbers. Especially when you know your Pen is struggling! Rocco needs to be more of a Manager and stop being a Robot in crucial periods of games!
  19. The FA Deadline was the time to fix the issue. Today the Cupboard is bare!
  20. Jeffers!! Vasquez has far too many "Half-Swings" & weak roll overs on breaking balls. Automatic outs. He needs to at least have a full swing in case he hits it!
  21. Martin is a back-up and nothing more. He makes a couple nice plays and people want to turn him into the next Kirby Puckett. He was mediocre at 2nd. In the outfield he doesn't get great jumps, doesn't play the wall well and has a below average arm. Plus no power. So maybe use as trade bait this off season or keep as a back-up and pinch runner.
  22. First there is the injury issue. It has been pretty consistent his entire time with the Twins. Second, is he another Julien? Once the league figured out Julien cant hit a cutter in on his hands his strikeouts sky-rocketed to Sano-like numbers. What if the same is true on Lewis. He was like 3 for 27 his last two weeks before the injury. Has the league figured him out and is he really not a consistent hitter or was it just a slump? Need more time on the field before spending the big bucks!
  23. Bring up Lee and send Julien down. His strikeouts are almost Sano-like!! Plus his defense HAS NOT improved much despite Morneau trying to convince people it has. Maybe instead of 2' Ieft and right it is 3' feet left and right. And he has dropped about 5 throws from catchers on throw out attempts. Some would have been outs. Send him down.
  24. What games are you watching? Julien has not improved that much at 2nd and certainly NOT by leaps & bounds. He drops more throws from the catcher that any 2nd baseman in history! And maybe his range has went from 2' left and right to 3' left & right. But with all his strikeouts he definitely does not look like a long term solution for the Twins. Get Lee up here ASAP and work him in at 2nd!!
  25. Demote one of the guys that is stinging the ball on a consistent basis and many times in clutch situation? Huh? Miranda stays!!!
