It would be tough to part with either Lee or Julien. But at least the Twins have these sorts of young talents with which to help swing a deal for a quality SP and still have one of them remaining on the roster.
-
Not saying they are equal in value, but the Twins received Pablo Lopez and a higher end prospect for Luis Arraez. Surely, Jorge Polanco and possibly a prospect could net them a pretty good rotation piece? Teams deal from strengths and some teams believe it or not consider themselves to have surplus SP. Teams trade SP all the time for other reasons as well - such as the Rays and/or Padres who are looking at the financial component and will likely move SP in trades this off-season. Hate to see Polanco go, but if this sort of deal for a quality SP can be achieved the Twins have to go for it.

How Will the Twins Handle Yunior Severino in 2024?
GNess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Severino may earn a spot on the roster out of Spring training, but that is also dependent on there being a spot for him to take. If the FO adds a 1B option as they are rumored to be considering it will take a lot for Severino to start the season in MLB. Kirilloff and Miranda are also possible internal options at 1B. I do like what I see of Severino's video highlights. Yes, he strikes out a lot - so what else is new with most of the Twins' players... -
Major Decisions Imminent Regarding Two Twins Minor Leaguers
GNess replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The Twins FO shouldn't have to think too much about adding Camargo. A Catcher with projectable home run power who seems competent or more defensively?- 21 replies

What to Make of Carlos Correa's Defense at Shortstop?
GNess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the numbers show Correa is not worth what the Twins are paying him by. a wide margin why would any other team want him? Especially since they have access to the same metrics. My view is Correa is a leader and a winner and you may not be able to see that expressed in the metrics except the one that matters most - the W-L column. (His outstanding performance in the postseason further demonstrates his value.) Correa is worth what the Twins are paying him. -
An Offseason To-Do List for the Minnesota Twins
GNess replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The strike out issue has been oversimplified. The power potential of each hitter must be considered inasmuch as there are players far more likely to hit home runs than others. The less powerful players should more often than not concentrate more on putting the ball in play with two strikes or with almost any count for that matter. One size doesn't fit all in this debate. We also need to consider that positive outcomes aren't just limited to base hits - errors, driving in a runner by grounding out or a sac fly, advancing runners from 2nd to third and putting stress on the defense have some value in many game situations as well. Having said all that, the Twins finished in the Top Ten in runs scored - which is certainly the most important offensive metric despite leading the league in strikeouts. Possibly some tweaks are needed, not a major overhaul in approach.- 76 replies

Kirby was better than any player on the 2023 roster. Hands down. Clutch? And we'll see you tomorrow night!

Lopez has pitched like a # 1 in a number of big moments. He is a # 1. Paddack was a highly regarded prospect that just may be finding himself after numerous setbacks. He could be a # 2 - and with Ryan and Ober being more than solid the Twins have 4/5 of a rotation. Possibly, they could complete it internally with a number of decent prospects in the system, but I lean towards a solid vet free agent - why. not bring back Maeda if affordable? Twins have done a great job building a sound rotation that could hold up for a few years.

Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
GNess replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Enjoyed the season and especially the emergence and development of some talented young players who knowing there are almost no sure things, hopefully will continue to progress. I have been a Twins fan since 1966, and yes its been a long stretch without a World Series, but I see the WS as possible with a few key additions and the returning core, which have some excellent pieces Lopez, Duran, Correa, Lewis, Jeffers etc. The spirit, will and grit were there for our Twins, but in the end the Astros are a proven winner and a tough out for sure. Easier said than done, but the Twins need to add a true middle of the order bat, a legit SP and get Buxton back in the OF for at least 80-100 games. I look forward to sharing the off-season and all the back and forth with the Twins Daily Community. Win Twins!- 126 replies

Twins Youth Burning Them at the Worst Time
GNess replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get the disappointment with the loss, but perspective helps. The Twins knocked out the Blue Jays and are still in the series with the Astros. The same Twins team that many totally discounted not so long ago because they play in the weak AL Central and would have no chance in the playoffs if they even made it to the postseason. My take: this Twins team is certainly capable of winning today and Friday.- 57 replies

Pablo Lopez's performance given the circumstances ranks in the same discussion with the greatest Twins pitching efforts in the postseason all-time. Absolutely dominating against one of the elite lineups in MLB.

Buxton is capable of hitting we assume? So is Stevenson's speed and defense more likely to be a factor than Buck pinch hitting/batting? I am not convinced that is the case. Plus, Buxton is a team leader and a long term asset of some value to the Twins future. I don't think you can really say that about Stevenson.

Carlos Correa is Proving He is Worth Every Penny
GNess replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Correa is certainly worth what the Twins are paying him given the market for top-end SS. I don't quite understand all the angst about his salary - the Twins paying big money for a player is a positive step especially given the franchise's track record of let's be gentle, frugality. He has delivered leadership, a rock-solid competitive mindset and great attitude despite a sub-par year at the plate partly due to injury. He also seems committed to leading the Twins to a championship. I think that the Twins could well be contenders for a good stretch and Correa will be in the middle of all that. -
The Twins out-competed a talented Blue Jays team. That takes heart and grit, which was evident in a number of big moments over the two, tense, hard-fought games.

Interesting. Maeda does have a good track record of pitching out of the bullpen in the postseason. His recent comments about the possibility were team-need centered so this seems like a solid move.
-
By my quick count this is the 13th division title for the Twins since the playoff era began in 1969. (50+ seasons) So as a fan, I always try to really enjoy these moments. Win Twins!

What to Make of the Twins Arraez-for-Lopez Trade Now

I Wasn’t the Only One Who Was Wrong About Royce Lewis
GNess replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Early or not everyone has to concede that Lewis has the traits of a special player.
