  1. It's a difficult task to make such rankings with Spring Training still a month away.. What can be said is there are legit reasons to be excited and optimistic about the potential for the Twins BP.
  2. It's a matter of perspective. The FO sits on their hands while most other MLB teams do stuff to try to make a change that might help their club. It really isn't the finances that bothers me so much it's the basic inactivity from a team with potential, but went 82-80 last season. I don't want to hear about being opportunistic - I want the Twins to make opportunities happen - plenty of teams with lower payrolls are doing just that.
  3. The ownership of the A's purposely allowed the stadium to become dated and dilapidated as part of a strategy to force a move. It was sinister and MLB went along with it. Not saying it will happen, but MLB would surely allow the Twins to relocate if their owners wished it and could create a negative narrative about the team and the lack of fan support and resources for it.
  4. Owners of pro teams do establish or at least influence budget parameters, the selection of front office personnel, the culture in terms of what are the real priorities etc. Generally, owners are not just figure heads who are disengaged from the club. The Pohlad's approach has most definitely limited what actions the front office could take to build a true, consistent contender. There is just no getting around that.
  5. Yes, you are right the Pohlads could have made better investments i terms of return on investment than owning the Twins. But damn making over a billion dollars is not a sharp stick in the eye.
  6. Interesting move which might have a solid return if this prospect regains his mojo.
  7. Very informative and hopeful. Ryan will be a central figure if he is good to go.
  8. I agree with the basic point that Paddack's value may be best realized by having him pitch for the Twins rather than free up a few million to acquire a FA player TBD. If he pitches well he might have much more trade value at the trade deadline.
  9. The Twins don't seem to have much faith in their own minor leaguers performing at AAA like Severino and/or Camargo, which I don't get especially when they add players such as Gasper or Ford. who they will likely give more chances to succeed at the MLB level.
  10. Trades are supposed to improve your team. Acquiring a back-up catcher who is 27 and with limited MLB experience and a SP likely destined for an uncertain future as a RP seems awfully light as a return for a proven top tier RP in Duran. Plus, the Twins would lose the Duran Entry Light Show!
  11. For a guy who is likely a non-factor Mickey Gaspar is generating a lot of thoughtful comments..
  12. Correa gives the Twins at minimum the hope of doing something special, such as his leadership and clutch overall play in the 2023 playoffs. Why would the Twins give up on hope?
  13. It doesn't deter my loyalty to and support for the Twins, but it gets tiresome to have almost all topics come down to, "The Twins can't -won't do that, but most other successful MLB teams can and will." Sadly those types of takes are generally accurate/the truth.
  14. If he performs consistently as a mid-ish rotation starter that's an excellent development for the Twins overall rotation depth. He has a reasonable chance to accomplish at least that and potentially out perform that target given his tough, competitive approach.
  15. Great news - if this works out the Twins may be able to put on their big boy pants and make a real effort to be exceptional.
  16. Well stated. Intriguing option especially given the budget restrictions.
  17. I agree it would be a shame to see Jenkins and Emma reduced to a strict platoon option. It's a risk given Baldelli's tendencies. However, not every Twins hitter is subject to strict platooning. Max Kepler comes to mind as a notable exception. I wold hope Jenkins and Emma have a legit chance to surpass Kepler's level as a hitter based on the totality of Kepler's up and down offense during his career.
  18. Bigger generally equates with stronger. Stronger is a good thing. No athlete is diminished by being stronger as long maintaining range of motion and flexibility are taken into account..
  19. This seems to be the best available approach for the Twins to improve the team this off season. I am sure there are many other young hitters the Twins could target for one of the trio of SP.
  20. It might make sense to some, but not to me. Signing Correa was an "Un-Twins" like act which brought a new energy to the team. Sadly moving him in a trade the Twins are likely to lose seems very "Twins-like". Second point: Teams typically need superstar level players to seriously and consistently contend for a Championship. Are the Twins restrained from ever obtaining such players in a manner other than drafting them? Trading Correa would speak directly to this point.
  21. No! A team rarely if ever improves by trading their best player and leader.
  22. A rebuild would not be wise. The Twins have assets which can most certainly result in a postseason berth in 2025 but each comes with caveats and/or question marks. HIGH END CORE: Correa, Buxton, Lopez, Jax, Duran. ? Can Correa and Buxton stay on the field enough? YOUNG HITTING TALENT: Lewis, Wallner, Larnach, Lee, Miranda but all of these 5 have been really up and down. Can they be more up than down? (Might include Julien and Kirilloff here too) PITCHING PIPELINE: Cleveland has shown that it is possible to keep churning out fairly reliable SP. Twins aren't Cleveland in terms of development, but they do have a nice number of young arms / prospects ready and close to ready: SWR, Festa, Matthews, Raya, Morris etc. Having said all of that it sure would be nice if they could go out and spend on a Big-Time Bat or a Front-Line Starter. (That doesn't seem likely given self-imposed restrictions.)
  23. Not sure what's the best option with AK. I am also unsure as to why so many of the Twins top prospects/young players struggled with some health/injury issues this season. Here is an informal list: Kirilloff, Miranda, Lewis, Lee, Rodriguez, Larnach, Jenkins, Keaschall - yikes.
