  1. Great news - if this works out the Twins may be able to put on their big boy pants and make a real effort to be exceptional.
  2. Well stated. Intriguing option especially given the budget restrictions.
  3. I agree it would be a shame to see Jenkins and Emma reduced to a strict platoon option. It's a risk given Baldelli's tendencies. However, not every Twins hitter is subject to strict platooning. Max Kepler comes to mind as a notable exception. I wold hope Jenkins and Emma have a legit chance to surpass Kepler's level as a hitter based on the totality of Kepler's up and down offense during his career.
  4. Bigger generally equates with stronger. Stronger is a good thing. No athlete is diminished by being stronger as long maintaining range of motion and flexibility are taken into account..
  5. This seems to be the best available approach for the Twins to improve the team this off season. I am sure there are many other young hitters the Twins could target for one of the trio of SP.
  6. It might make sense to some, but not to me. Signing Correa was an "Un-Twins" like act which brought a new energy to the team. Sadly moving him in a trade the Twins are likely to lose seems very "Twins-like". Second point: Teams typically need superstar level players to seriously and consistently contend for a Championship. Are the Twins restrained from ever obtaining such players in a manner other than drafting them? Trading Correa would speak directly to this point.
  7. No! A team rarely if ever improves by trading their best player and leader.
  8. A rebuild would not be wise. The Twins have assets which can most certainly result in a postseason berth in 2025 but each comes with caveats and/or question marks. HIGH END CORE: Correa, Buxton, Lopez, Jax, Duran. ? Can Correa and Buxton stay on the field enough? YOUNG HITTING TALENT: Lewis, Wallner, Larnach, Lee, Miranda but all of these 5 have been really up and down. Can they be more up than down? (Might include Julien and Kirilloff here too) PITCHING PIPELINE: Cleveland has shown that it is possible to keep churning out fairly reliable SP. Twins aren't Cleveland in terms of development, but they do have a nice number of young arms / prospects ready and close to ready: SWR, Festa, Matthews, Raya, Morris etc. Having said all of that it sure would be nice if they could go out and spend on a Big-Time Bat or a Front-Line Starter. (That doesn't seem likely given self-imposed restrictions.)
  9. Not sure what's the best option with AK. I am also unsure as to why so many of the Twins top prospects/young players struggled with some health/injury issues this season. Here is an informal list: Kirilloff, Miranda, Lewis, Lee, Rodriguez, Larnach, Jenkins, Keaschall - yikes.
  10. The Tigers were 10.5 GB and under .500 in mid-August. They. played out of their minds over the final six weeks. Does that clearly outlier performance really demonstrate anything for other teams - I think not.
  11. I agree with your basic premise. Cleveland especially has mastered this feat of winning beyond their payroll. However, are any of the three central playoff entrants likely to advance to the World Series? Teams that spend are typically those in serious contention most consistently. (Note: Astros, Dodgers, Phillies as examples)
  12. Sad end to a season which held a lot of promise until it didn't. Total system failure such as this calls for a serious rethink with some big changes in likely a number of facets. (Of course, current ownership has to mandate and lead this change - will they?.) I live. in the SF Bay Area - things could be much worse - such as they are for fans of the soon to be Sacramento A's.
  13. Any team with a final record after 162 games that warrants a wildcard / division championship berth deserves the opportunity. The undeserving teams are those whose record didn't qualify them. If somehow the Twins make the playoffs I will watch and root for them as always regardless of their level of suckitude the past month. It's not like the Twins are .in the postseason every year.
  14. Young players often go through struggles only to develop into quality MLB players. Julien still has a chance to turn things around, but the window may be closing as a Twin.
  15. As the leader of the team the manager bears primary responsibility for the eventual outcomes. That seems to be the way sports work at a basic level - fair or not.
  16. Yes, the past six weeks or so have been disappointing. Tonight the Twins showed grit and toughness, which were a joy to watch as they kept competing. Big W.
  17. Buxton now, Correa soon - ready and in time to make a difference?
  18. Great to see Pablo Lopez's increase inn velocity - especially this late in the season.
  19. There is a short term benefit to adding Lee asap and allowing him to play SS-3B-2B. He is a defensive upgrade at 3B and 2B for sure. His bat is most likely an upgrade as well over Julien and Martin. Long term he appears to be a future core player who will garner significant experience from participating in a pennant race / fingers crossed postseason games. He should be in the lineup Friday.
  20. This entire argument is framed by the budget restraints the franchise has imposed on its self. However unreasonable these restraints are they are the reality. Given that not resigning Gray and Maeda makes some sense. Of course, the Twins are embracing the in-season MLB development of young pitchers - what other choice have they given themselves?
  21. The three losses in a row have seen multiple failures by the bullpen and lack of discipline running the bases. Alarmed? - No,, but a bit concerned. Given how close the chase for a playoff spot is it's no time for this to be happening. The races will likely come down to a game or two. On a somewhat related note - this team needs Correa and Buxton back asap.
  22. Yes he is worth it. As this well-written article points out there is more to Vazquez than numbers. He is a steady, smart, positive influence on a fairly inexperienced team, It would be nice though if he can keep up his improved hitting as of late.
