  1. Great? Your genealogy may be correct but the terminology is prone to misunderstanding.
  2. There's a word for pitchers who can "easily" go 3 innings. "Starter."
  3. I agree that Buxton is the key to this team, but if he can't play CF we're getting only part of his value. If he's manning CF yesterday then DH is open, which means Taylor isn't in the lineup (he's no DH and unlike Buxton is of value only when playing defense). Who among the 4 right-handed benchwarmers would have been at DH against the righty? None of them, assuming Buxton could be counted on to play defense - instead Willi Castro would not have made the team, and one of the lefty bat-first youngsters, either Wallner or Julien, could have come north and been in the lineup on Opening Day. Even though relying on unproven rookies is a risk, I have to like either one's offense better than when Taylor is in the lineup of necessity and against a righty. And Buxton not playing defense? That ungainly route to third base on his textbook triple was a chilling reminder that playing outfield isn't even where Buxton has the majority risk of injury - he was risking both his knee and his hip on that one. Unless the medical staff can offer a better explanation, if Buxton is capable of trying to leg out a triple when the game depends on it, he can play CF for me.
  4. Duran walked a guy in the ninth yesterday. The wheels are starting to come off. Shane better get ready for disappointment.
  5. It is urgent to get Emilio off the roster, just to eliminate the dad jokes he inspires.
  6. Ah, okay. I did completely misread you. Yeah, if you counted correctly then there are some changes a-comin'.
  7. Who's angry? It's not as though the Twins won 17-0. There are things to discuss.
  8. I'm on board with several others who have already posted. 93 wins, division title, at least one playoff series win. Barring injuries.
  9. I'm very happy he's on the roster. But the less he plays, the better I expect our Twins will do. If we look back at 2023 as him being the starting CF, look out.
  10. By "cut" I assume you mean sent to minor league teams. The Twins' page shows the full 40-man roster, and indicates who among them are already assigned to the minors, or are on one of the injured lists. I count 13 pitchers and 13 position players not marked in these ways, so they are down to the 26 (not 28) man active roster, and no more cuts are needed. LaMarre, as just one example, is not anywhere on this list because he's not on the 40-man. He's a pure minor league signing, and can't be added to the major league team unless room is made for him on the 40-man first.
  11. On mlb.tv I am accustomed to using the 10-second replay for interesting plays or pitches I want to review. I did that a couple of times today and missed the next pitch, which I would have to replay, lather-rinse-repeat. This is, I hasten to add, a good thing.
  12. That was a triple for Buxton as soon as the ball evaded the fielder's grasp, but I wish he could've slid into the base without that right foot banging down on the basepath a good 4 feet away from the destination.
  13. 93 wins and at least one playoff round title, if there's no injuries. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
  14. That's livin' the dream, sez I.
  15. Yeah, I really went back and forth the last few weeks whether I should broadcast my whereabouts and see who else might be there, but in the end wound up not committing to being able to meet up at any particular time - it's a slightly complicated trip this year. If you noticed a 30-something man with a handlebar mustache and wearing a Washington Nationals cap, and a gray-haired companion with Twins insignias who was obsessively photographing through the chain link fence at both the back field games, that would have been my son (bashbury) and me. My brother-in-law suffered an ER visit while on the road recently, also due to suspected food poisoning. Different locale and itinerary so it's just one of those things, but no fun while it's happening.
  16. As is my custom, I've taken a few pictures during this visit to Fort Myers. Well, a few hundred. Most are crap and I don't know yet which is which, and I won't be able to sort through until I'm back from vacation, probably. But yesterday on the back fields, during an away game for the big club, was a lot of fun because of whom they left behind. Buxton, Correa, and Kirilloff all batted (DHed) during one of the two mixed AA-AAA games. And there were other players to watch as well. David Festa, Marco Raya, Connor Prielipp, and Jordan Balazovic in particular. Prielipp. I think had his stuff going this day , as he struck out the side in his first of two innings if I'm not mistaken. He gave up a run in the second inning on a lucky bouncer that put a runner on and then a solid double to right center, but he recovered to complete the inning with at least one other strikeout that made the batter look overmatched. This is not the most flattering image of Balazovic but here he is putting in some side work before the games. Afterward he went over to an adjoining field to practice pickoff moves to second and first but the photos are pretty nondescript. Finally, a Derek Falvey sighting at the center of the back fields during the games.
  17. MAT may bat right-handed, but.722 OPS is mighty pedestrian.
  18. He turns just 32 in a week or two. I feel like he's ready for an offensive breakout at last.
  19. The "Park Factor" shown at ESPN's site has the Minnesota park as a mild-to-strong pitcher's park, i.e. below 1.0, depending on the year. The yearly variability means you shouldn't take it as anything more than a general trend for guidance. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/year/2022 If you follow it back to the Metrodome days, we used to have a hitter's advantage instead.
  20. His 2022 at AAA looks like he's on the cusp. Too old to be a prospect, but sometimes old dogs learn one more trick. Good luck to him.
  21. Nah, just kidding. If these events come to pass, have to like our chances. A playoff series win, or even two, so much the better. I'm all in for 93 wins, and just like our FO I'll backtrack on this if there are significant injuries.
  22. We acted like it was a never-ended supply when we disposed of two of them in a connected series of trades just under a year ago.
  23. Up the middle talent is hard to acquire. I'd be very leery of trading him away for needs elsewhere on the diamond, and would hang onto him to see whether he can finish development into a solid player.
  24. Careful there. You were one transposition-error typo away from a month-long ban.
