Twins Thrilled with Draft's First Night
Doctor Gast replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The draft result was better than I expected. Although I like Lee, I'd still pick Parada over him because Parada grades out higher and we need a top of the line catcher. Lee is smart & has the saavy, that has got him this high in the ranks but it won't pan out in the MLB, he won't stick at SS so I won't pick him over Parada.- 50 replies

2022 MLB Draft Day 1 Thread
Doctor Gast replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I was hoping for Parada, he was available. We need a catcher -
Archer pitched great until he ran out of gas. When they needed to put out the fire they poured gasoline on the situation by bringing in Duffy. From the begining of the season we needed to establish long relief, we had many arms to do that and they settled on only Winder and used him for 3 times in April and shut it down. We still need long relief, yet they sent Winder & Smeltzer down to AAA again. "They" want to depend heavily on short relief and we don't have the guns there to do anything, To help out short relief they over extend our rotation, then we burn out our SPs or they end up on the IL. We are exactly where I said we'd be if we didn't establish a long relief. And we'll continue on this path until they wake up. We have very good rotation but they need a lot of help from long relief, if they aren't there we are doomed. We have some time for some of our pitchers get healthy but they need to establish long relief, get some high leverage pitching and a front-line pitcher won't be bad. Our line up didn't do their job either, but we need to keep the game close until their bats wake up.

I'm hesitant to trade away Celestino or Gordon with Buxton history especially for Okert. I'd be more interested in Bass eventhough he's not a LHPRP. I do agree that we do have to limit Thielbar's innings. Wonder if they'd be interested in Cave (?) . He'd have a lot of availibity,

Twins Daily Draft Preview: Cade Horton
Doctor Gast replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
If we can't pick up Parada, then I'd go w/ a pitcher. Do you think that we could pick up Susac in the 2nd round? Probably not, but do you think that we'd draft Susac 1st round? I think we really need a catcher in the upper rounds. Do you think there'll be any jockeying in draft pick via trades? -
I've never been impressed w/ Snell and have a bad taste from the last deal w/ SD. Let them find a different sucker. I'd be more interested w/ MIA. They are truly stacked w/ great pitching, but need help with their line up. I'm not sure if MIA has decided if they want to compete or not. Either way the Twins could figure out a trade, that could benifit both clubs.

It;s difficult for this FO to commit to be big buyer at the deadline in 2017 and they should have shown some guts. They have yet to show they have courage to be a big buyer at the deadline. Hope they can change this year.

Winder is still a good pitcher, as soon as possible he should be placed in long relief (and some spot starting if need be) and limit his innings, for this year.

How Badly Do The Twins Need Catching Help?
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We do have a problem at catching both offensively & defensively. We need Contreras longer than a rental if we can resign him it'd be great. I'd not resign Sanchez and trade Jeffers to upgrade catching. Long range I'd select a catcher and Tarheel had made an excellent suggestion. Why not transition Wallner to catcher? He profiles better there and there's no future for Wallner in the OF, we are really stacked out there. And catching is a need. Why not? See how quick he is at adjusting, he might take to it like a duck to water.- 54 replies

If the Twin are able to draft Parada, it'll be a very successful draft. -
The Twins are Bad At Baserunning - But Does It Matter?
Doctor Gast commented on TwerkTwonkTwins's blog entry in Ryan Stephan's Twinpinions
Base running is very important, maybe not as important as defense but it's the difference in a close game. I get more excited with good base running than a moonblast. Our problem on base running or small baseball is that it's not taught or encouraged in the minors. It'll take a while to get this instilled but sooner we start the better. -
2022 Twins 10-round Mock Draft
Doctor Gast replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
1st, great job Jeremy! Catching is a very important position and now we are weak there. I'd like to see the Twins try to go after a catcher in the upper ranks. I was very impressed with Tarheel suggestion to transition Wallner from LF where he has no future to catcher. Where he can excel and plug a hole where we have a great need, this makes perfect sense. This transition could suppress his hitting short term but could pay huge dividends in the near future. FO if you read this please take note. -
3 Controllable Relievers to Target in Trade
Doctor Gast replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very good point, hording prospect will result in rule 5 draft problems. Wether FO believe that this is the year to invest & compete or not, this is the year to go for it. Very unlikely PIT will trade Bednar unless they get a very good price and PIT is long gone from a chance to get to the post season. All these teams & RPs you mention are in the same boat, They aren't going to let any of their promising young closer go unless they a big return. There might be an in between converted SP that have less control but yet isn't a rental, Diaz could posssible fit in this possiblity. Yet IMO this FO would be looking for a rental hoping that Pagan will eventually fill that role. Not that I agree. -
Mill1634's Trade Deadline Blueprint: Going for It
Doctor Gast commented on Mill1634's blog entry in Milldaddy35's Blog Area
I enjoyed your blog. Back end BP is where the most need is at and I like all your options, SPs are trickier, Maybe Mahle's shoulder will straighten out but should be skeptical of it, I'm not sure about Kelly. I would not trade for Bell for all the reasons previously stated -
Arraez and Buxton Named to First All-Star Teams
Doctor Gast replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Cogratulations! to both well deserved! -
Jeff Reardon had some good seasons with the Twins and helped them win their 1st WS. That was an off season trade but with any deal you have check the tires not take some ones word for it. There for awhile Twins were very successful in finding very good closers

I was hoping that Gray could go 7 inning and not suffer the consquences the next couple of starts. But it looks like Gray's innings should also be limited.

Who is Part of the Twins' Long-Term Core Four?
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gaetti would be part of my '87 & '91 core 4. Today's core 4 is Buxton, Polanco, Arraez and Kepler (does Correa count?). Soon to prove themselves Ryan, Duran, Kiriloff & Lewis- 84 replies

The Five Best Hitting Trade Targets for the Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Besides pitching, catching is an area of need. Contreras would be a very nice upgrade and if we can extend him would make the move feasible. We don't need another 1B/ DH type even if his name is Cruz but he'd be interesting- 31 replies

I like Lopez the best right now but I think MIA has grown more attached to him. Not so much on Gallen and ARI said he's not avaiable, I'd say our best shot is Mahle, Montas and Castillo has more hype and Montas has some mystery about his health. Marquez would be a good fit for us but CO never makes up their minds in what to do even when they completely out of it.

The Five Best Relief Pitcher Targets for the Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like them all and throw in Bard & Robertson. I don't think DET will deal w/ us, Bednar too expensive IMO MIA will keep Bass. I agree that FO will look for a 1 yr. deal because they want Pagan as the future closer no matter what.- 18 replies

Nick Gordon Is Quietly Filling the Royce Lewis Void
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO Lewis is totally diferent than Gordon but that's not to say Gordon doesn't have value, IMO he has a lot of value. Lewis is a much better SS but Gordon as #4 should keep Polanco at 2B. Although Lewis could be a very capable CF he should not have cosidered there because of previous injury. To keep Lewis's bat in the line up he should have been put strictly in the INF. So the one who benifitted the most from Lewis's absence is Miranda. Although Miranda is starting to blossum as a MLB hitter. It would have been more prudent to groom Palacios in the MLB because his glove is much more needed. I've been impressed with Gordon, when thrown into CF to learn on the fly. He has learned very quickly and his hitting has steadily improved with each AB. The depth he adds to so many position IMO makes Gordon very valuable.
