  1. IMO that'd be the best route from the beginning, signing someone like Rich Hill to a MiLB deal as insurance yet giving our young SPs priority. The pressure is on the lineup to not strike out in close games but be better at hitting in the clutch, Forget about the HRs. We need to take the pressure off the BP.
  2. I've been big on Castillo for a long time, wanting the Twins to swing a deal for him. Deadline acquisitions are risky as Montas & Mahle prove. SEA scored big on Castillo. I also wanted the Twin to pull another Pablo Lopez-type trade this off-season.
  3. IMO it's great the Twins shut down Duran & Thielbar right away & that they're not arm problems, Hopefully, the next guys on the list will step up & not anyone be overstressed that the load will be evenly distributed throughout the corp. That Duran & Thielbar come back stronger than ever. IMO long relief is needed.
  4. Obtaining damage pitchers is not cheap It's throwing away decent talent & money. IMO they only look at stats & hope for the best & completely overlook the glaring injury condition of pitchers. Yeah pitchers get injured but obtaining injured pitchers w/o really examining them or hoping it doesn't develop into TJ is like playing Russian roulette w/ 5 shells in the chamber. I like my chances much better getting a healthy pitcher & try to keep him healthy.
  5. Optimistic especially with 125 games for Buxton. hope they're right.
  6. Hope was especially used when talking about DeSclavani because there was nothing to back anything up. I am confident that our SPs will bring us a Central Division Title. But as mentioned I doubt we advance in the postseason. For Ryan & or Ober to take that big step is where hope comes in. The Twins got the max out of Gray, I doubt that STL will replicate it. IMO our depth is fine although signing Rich Hill to a minor league contract would be wise yet giving our in-house SPs plenty of opportunity to shine. I see Festa & even Raya able to see some time at MLB. Whereas signing a FA would block them & cost us. We have to be lucky at the deadline if that's the route they are thinking.
  7. Up the middle positions (CF, SS, C & 2B) are glove 1st positions. 1B is a bat 1st position we are getting a bit mixed up here. I advocated Julien at 1B since the beginning of '23, Julien at 1B would have helped correct the shortage at 1B. 2Bmen need to have range & turn a smooth DP. Julien has below average range plus a healthy Julien & recuperating Polanco ranked 29 out of 30 in DPs. With Julien at 1B we didn't need Santana. I'm not a big HR guy, I'd be fine with 9 Arraez-type bats in the line-up.
  8. That's not what I'm saying. Although Varland is 26 he doesn't have a lot of MLB innings at SP. Even if we conserve Varland in the beginning, Being conserved, he could still pitch around 150 innings.
  9. There been a few NRIs that were looking for an opportunity & have played well in spring training greatly outshining the competition only to be passed over. and the Twins suffered because of it. Fortunately, Castro because of early injuries Castro wasn't cast aside but given that opportunity. All players like Castro need is an opportunity & some trust. Because of that they can prove themselves & build up some confidence. Having that confidence now IMO Castro can build on what he did last year. Castro can be that LH bat to sub Buxton in CF on occasion or anywhere else competently. IMO Castro's base stealing has inspired the whole team to be better at it.
  10. He's still inexperienced in MLB, So I'd like to take him slow to begin with. I know some differ but IMO MLB innings are more strenuous than minor league innings, especially to begin with..
  11. IMO the Twins have overreacted by obtaining new vets. Varland is better than DeSclavani, Martin is better than Margot for example. By obtaining these new vets will limited our own players MLB experience & evaluation. So I'm against getting any new SP now although I'm not against signing a SP like Rich Hill on a special minor league contract yet giving our own SPs priority. I'd rather have traded for a front-line SP this offseason rather than the deadline because their more expensive & you know less what you're getting.
  12. It makes much more sense to have Vazquez glove in the game yet have Jeffers bat at DH against LHPs
  13. I'd like to limit both Paddack & Varland's innings, Maybe even have them piggyback to begin the season.
  14. Great job Seth! Very good analysis. Hope they can figure it out.
  15. I imagine Jeffers can DH against LHPs, as an extra RH hitter
  16. It was refreshing to hear Baldelli voice the importance of long relief where as soon as '22 when Bundy & Archer were signed on the idea of incorporating the piggyback system & then later abandoned for the 1 & done approach. That quickly burned out the BP & then the rotation.
  17. He passed through waivers so it's up to him if he can put anything together. Twins will string him along this year.
  18. When we entered the off-season, the #5 SP was not a need, So losing DeSclafani did not create any void and FA is not the solution. FA will not solve our true problem anyway. In-house- Varland, SWR, Headrick, Festa, etc, are more than enough to help us win the division crown. If we need added insurance, sign Rich Hill to a minor league deal.
  19. Rich Hill is a great mentor, he could help a lot with some of our prospects
  20. Rich Hill is a great guy to have around
  21. Desclafani hasn't been good for a while & chances of him really contributing was very slim. We have in-house pitchers who can easily fill the 5th SP spot better than Desclafani. Twins need to spend their money wisely picking up another Desclafani via FA isn't wise.
  22. Main concern is Duran & Thielbar. As long as we have them for the postseason I'm fine. Canterino's injury is to be expected being away for so long, the injury isn't that serious & he'll eventually work himself back into shape. When he does he'll be great. BTW love your title Matthew
  23. The system is really broken with all emphasis on velo & stuff, most pitchers will be shot by the time they arrive at FA. Especially if they have any kind of extension. They will never get their pay day.
  24. These are preseason games that don't count & I agree with the rule of saving pitchers from pitching too long into an inning. But when regular season starts players will have plenty of opportunities to share their insights.
