  1. I am just as frustrated as you are but IMO the problem isn't the hitting coach, he's just doing what he's told to do. It's the "all or nothing" approach that the Twins have adapted.
  2. Pretty funny but seriously before this problem, I thought he could have been a decent rental target, how well he had pitched in the past & this early season. We dodged a bullet, but the risk is getting higher trading for a SP with arm problems
  3. What a shame! He's a great pitcher & he was having a pretty good season.
  4. Thanks Ted for the update. I'm a little confused on why the Saints are starting Helman at CF? Isn't Keirsey more qualified? And Helman is more of a utility guy, especially when Martin is not there. It was great to see Cardenas, our best defensive catcher in the system, being able to bat in our 1st run. & I'm disappointed that the Twins aren't able to develop Olivar, who is very athletic & has a lot of raw defensive talent, very quickly.
  5. Agreed, IMO we have modeled our approach after the Yankees, who as an whole have floundered even though they hit a lot of HRs. Unfortunately, the Yankees have waken up changed their approach, fired their batting coach, hired Rowson (who works individually w/ players to bring out their strong points) & traded for SOTO (who walks more than he SO that has carried the team even when Judge isn't hitting); yet the Twins remain basically unchanged. PS- IMO Popkins is a fine batting coach the problem is the approach.
  6. I agree that Martin needs to play more often, the problem with the Twins isn't Martin. Martin has been mainly used as a pinch runner which he excels in. IMO bringing Martin up was the right call because #1 it gets Martin's feet wet and #2 Farmer is a much better 3Bman. I also agree that Miranda deserves to be called up but his chance is linked to Santana not at 3B. But IMO should have some opportunity there but not on a regular bases.
  7. IMO it has been more than this year, Twins tend to target Gallo type hitters. Lewis improved tremendously our RISP BA last year. But now with our 2 best clutch hitters are gone, it'll be tough.
  8. The way things look MIA might be selling off early. Most likely they'd like to trade off Arreaz especially if they are rebuilding. As of right now, they aren't looking to trade Alcantra and they are primarily looking for young players at the prime positions of SS & catcher for Lazardo. As much as I'd love to have Lazardo I wouldn't trade Lewis or Lee. If they'd take Gonzalez, De Andrade, Keaschall, Schobel, Winocur, and the like. I'd settle for Cabrera which would be less trade capital.
  9. Very pleased with our BP. I too believe it's very sustainable. We still have some recruitments in AAA & those on the IL will be back. Sands have pitched well, he has pitched longer maybe they extend him a little more if need be. Canterino will come up eventually in the BP ranks this season.
  10. Pablo wasn't perfect, BP did their job. CLE is better than we expected. Kiriloff is hitting the way we are expecting him to hit. The "all or nothing" approach more often than not, is nothing but SOs when we need hits. Buxton with the bases loaded, I knew when he came to the plate that he was trying to hit a HR. An HR would have been great but you take what the pitcher giving. We are missing our best clutch hitters.
  11. Great job, Cody! I have stated before that I believe that they'll take Soto slow, Because like you said that HS arms are high risk, due to being pushed too fast and too hard, Their arms development can't keep up with the heavy pitching development load. Taking them slow IMO helps to limit the risk. Because Soto is bigger, his arm probably can take more than Raya but will be less than what some would like.
  12. A very interesting question. I doubt that they are ditching the "all-or-nothing" approach (unfortunately) but they might be dialing back on it, to curb the SOs and players like Castro are overcompensating and eventually get back to hitting better. Which in this case is very encouraging to me. Jeffers has stated after last night's game, that he'd made a minor adjustment. Hopefully, he'll continue to rake.
  13. I agree with you Hunter that Castro should work on his launch angle & get back to last season's success. Jeffers #s weren't that great in '21 & '22. Jeffers worked on his swing in '23 & had some success, I'm curious about what his average launch angle was in '23 compared to '21 & '22.
  14. IMO the better indicator of the success of this team due to hitting is not the "all-or-nothing" approach that this FO is advocating because this approach was adopted since the '19 "juiced ball" & a good part of that time this offense stunk. The offense stunk in '23 until Royce Lewis came up who sparked this offense until he went down after 2 days into '24. The presence of Lewis is directly correlated to the success of this offense. Not the "all-or-nothing" approach which more often strikeout in clutch situations. I think a big reason that the launch angle is so low & our offense is so poor this season is because our main contact hitters Santana, Margot & Martin are hitting poorly. I'm confident that when Martin is adjusted to MLB; Santana & Margot problems are worked out; Buxton & Correa really get going & the return of Lewis this offense will be awesome, in spite of the "all-or-nothing" approach. I'm not against launch angles, I'm against approaches whether it is pushing hitters to hit for contact on every pitch or to hit HRs. Baseball is a game of adjusting when we are set in one approach we can't maximize on each pitch. Also we need to develop each hitter to better them whether they are a slugger or more of a contact hitter.
  15. Fajardo is a great pickup. He'll leap frog over a few prospects.
  16. I was looking forward to seeing SWR pitch, he didn't let us down. Even in adverse conditions, he pitched well. Too bad Balazovik & Harris couldn't nail it down. Miranda continues to hit well
  17. I still have hope in Miranda to shine at 1B. Larnach had a great '23 spring training & 1st part of the regular season until MLB pitchers found that chink in his armor. IMO he won't be able to have the luxury of having enough duration of time at the MLB level to correct his weakness with the Twins. He'll need to be traded to a team that can afford him the time to spend at the MLB level to correct his problem.
  18. The problem is we aren't hitting in the clutch. The Brewers didn't hit any HRs they just got hits when they needed to. IMO Varland & Paddack should have piggybacked today & have Lopez pitching tomorrow. There is a thing of having too much rest between games & having Lopez pitching in more games sooner is more beneficial to the team.
  19. Let's cool off the hot Brewers, Go Twins & Varland! Varland is starting ahead of Paddack, are they piggybacking?
  20. Agreed, this trade should not have happened. We let go of a healthy Polanco that have been our best clutch hitter for a SP that anybody who had any sense knew he wasn't going to contribute anything, Yet FO was able to get a large fanbase excited about how he was going to impact the Twins. An overrated top 100 cOF prospect who shouldn't hit with enough power to profile at that position, a free swinger that the Twins will try to transform like Astudillo (Astudillo was a better glove) into a slugger they desire. IMO he will never make the club. Topa a RP that the Twins usually pick up via waivers or MiLB signee. & a low lotto ticket.
  21. I lean towards Covart cause I like his LH bat. It'll be interesting how things'll shake out. Unfortunately, IMO the Twins are more drawn to someone like Derek Bender as a catching prospect than the better defensive ones.
