Yeah, they must be very good friends, for him to pay off his gambling debt & remain friends. But to steal is total betrayal of his trust & IMO would be much more difficult to remain chummy.

Yeah, if someone stole 4.5MM from me I wouldn't be so chummy.

A Year Apart, Royce Lewis is in a Different Place
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From the 1st time I saw Lewis, I knew he was someone special a possible MVP candidate. Yet by what he's gone thru I have underestimated him, going thru adversity has made him stronger. As long as he stays in the INF, I'm not worried about his health.- 14 replies

Washington's Angels will surprise a lot of people. What happened to Wash's coaching staff? It'll be a tough 3-way fight between HOU, TX & SEA. My money is on SEA being the most complete team and will give MN a lot of trouble.

We could use some SP depth. I'd like to sign Rich Hill to a MiLB contract, he could add to the team in a few ways

I enjoyed your article, Cody! Well done. Toronto IMO didn't get the steady production from their top players that they'd hoped. Plus being in the AL East you have to be on top of your game all season long, which can take a lot out of a team. With top veterans like Lopez, Buxton & Correa; present young core led by Lewis plus great prospects coming up, we have a great opportunity. Our only weakness right now IMO is a 2nd dominant postseason SP. If Ryan & or Ober take that big step we have him if not, hope we get lucky at the deadline. Going forward, our weak link is catching. Right now our Vazquez/ Jeffers tandem isn't bad, but if we lose Vazquez to injury or trade our team will fall apart. Jeffers has proven when left to be the sole primary catcher for any substantial time he'll falter. Eventually, Vazquez will leave us, when that happens our defensive catching (a premium position) depth will reach the bottom of the barrel. The Twins have placed 0 importance on drafting & developing defensive catching that'll come back to bite us these coming years when we are aspiring to win the World Series. Many think that Vazquez is expensive, But if the Twins had the foresight to have a potential elite catching prospect ready for Vazquez to mentor when he 1st arrived. He'd be a bargain. If Jeffers falters or gets hurt after Vazquez is gone. What will the Twins do? Because we have no one of value to step in (hoping Carmargo (NR) miraculously develops into defensive catcher won't cut it). We don't have the money to go out & get an elite catcher or willing to trade for one. So that puts a damper on our postseason aspirations.

Twins Reassign Top Prospect Brooks Lee
Doctor Gast replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a big fan of Lee, he's a future foundation of the Twins. Yet I never believed that Lee would break camp with the Twins. What I saw from Lee at SS, was OK but I wasn't that impressed. -
3 LHPs in the BP is IMO too many plus Funderburk ST was not too great so I'd like Sands as long relief. This roster is adequate to begin the season but IMO not for the postseason.

Louie Varland is Cleared For Take-Off
Doctor Gast replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We all are depending on Varland to stabilize himself as a MLB SP. Go get 'em Louie! -
Larnach and Miranda Optioned. Balazovic Reassigned
Doctor Gast replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
IMO Larnach, Miranda & Martin would be better served not being sent down & having that extra time in the MLB camp. Especially Martin being mentored by Buxton. Instead of hanging around a MiLB practice field. There are so many scrubs below Larnach, Miranda & Martin that have no chance in making the club this year yet is still with the club -
Lineup Carries the Weight of the World For Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO that'd be the best route from the beginning, signing someone like Rich Hill to a MiLB deal as insurance yet giving our young SPs priority. The pressure is on the lineup to not strike out in close games but be better at hitting in the clutch, Forget about the HRs. We need to take the pressure off the BP.- 35 replies

I've been big on Castillo for a long time, wanting the Twins to swing a deal for him. Deadline acquisitions are risky as Montas & Mahle prove. SEA scored big on Castillo. I also wanted the Twin to pull another Pablo Lopez-type trade this off-season.

Twins 2024 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO it's great the Twins shut down Duran & Thielbar right away & that they're not arm problems, Hopefully, the next guys on the list will step up & not anyone be overstressed that the load will be evenly distributed throughout the corp. That Duran & Thielbar come back stronger than ever. IMO long relief is needed.- 13 replies

Obtaining damage pitchers is not cheap It's throwing away decent talent & money. IMO they only look at stats & hope for the best & completely overlook the glaring injury condition of pitchers. Yeah pitchers get injured but obtaining injured pitchers w/o really examining them or hoping it doesn't develop into TJ is like playing Russian roulette w/ 5 shells in the chamber. I like my chances much better getting a healthy pitcher & try to keep him healthy.

Twins 2024 Position Analysis: Starting Pitcher
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hope was especially used when talking about DeSclavani because there was nothing to back anything up. I am confident that our SPs will bring us a Central Division Title. But as mentioned I doubt we advance in the postseason. For Ryan & or Ober to take that big step is where hope comes in. The Twins got the max out of Gray, I doubt that STL will replicate it. IMO our depth is fine although signing Rich Hill to a minor league contract would be wise yet giving our in-house SPs plenty of opportunity to shine. I see Festa & even Raya able to see some time at MLB. Whereas signing a FA would block them & cost us. We have to be lucky at the deadline if that's the route they are thinking.- 31 replies

Up the middle positions (CF, SS, C & 2B) are glove 1st positions. 1B is a bat 1st position we are getting a bit mixed up here. I advocated Julien at 1B since the beginning of '23, Julien at 1B would have helped correct the shortage at 1B. 2Bmen need to have range & turn a smooth DP. Julien has below average range plus a healthy Julien & recuperating Polanco ranked 29 out of 30 in DPs. With Julien at 1B we didn't need Santana. I'm not a big HR guy, I'd be fine with 9 Arraez-type bats in the line-up.

That's not what I'm saying. Although Varland is 26 he doesn't have a lot of MLB innings at SP. Even if we conserve Varland in the beginning, Being conserved, he could still pitch around 150 innings.

There been a few NRIs that were looking for an opportunity & have played well in spring training greatly outshining the competition only to be passed over. and the Twins suffered because of it. Fortunately, Castro because of early injuries Castro wasn't cast aside but given that opportunity. All players like Castro need is an opportunity & some trust. Because of that they can prove themselves & build up some confidence. Having that confidence now IMO Castro can build on what he did last year. Castro can be that LH bat to sub Buxton in CF on occasion or anywhere else competently. IMO Castro's base stealing has inspired the whole team to be better at it.

He's still inexperienced in MLB, So I'd like to take him slow to begin with. I know some differ but IMO MLB innings are more strenuous than minor league innings, especially to begin with..
