It happens a lot with NYY, Lucky we have instant review to overturn incorrect calls otherwise that great Lewis/ Miranda play would been safe. The sooner we have an electronic balls/ strikes system the better.

Great play by Lewis & Miranda -
Thank you Jeremy for putting in the work here. I really can't get excited about this draft. I like Walker Janek (C) but IMO it's too little too late. Even if the Twins do decide to take a catcher 1st round.

Twins Relievers Are Pitching Out of Their Minds
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Absolutely not, especially if someone has to gain something. It's only what I gathered, it's my opinion, nothing more. I don't think I'm the only one who has this opinion about Canterino. -

Trade Deadline: Scenarios for Your Minnesota Twins

Pretty much my sentiments. As of now HOU said they aren't dealing & I'm not sure about NYM -
Where the Twins stand after (about) 60 games
Doctor Gast replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
IMO the most important things is not how many runs you score (via HR or whatever) it's when you score them (clutch hitting & not striking out). With the addition of Lewis & the subtraction of Margot, Santana & maybe Farmer if he can't turn it around, I like our chances.- 42 replies

Twins Relievers Are Pitching Out of Their Minds
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Like Duran, Canterino doesn't have the arm to be expected to pitch in the rotation. But Canterino has electric stuff & he's smart, IMO he'd be fine in the BP & dominates. -
Besides the good pitching they already have, they have Weathers, Myers & Munoz ready to take that next step. I'd love we went full in & traded for both Lopez & Luzardo at the time. Nevertheless Luzardo would be a great fit in MN. Luzardo is LH & good friend of Lopez from Venezuela. Gonzales should be on top of the list with maybe Festa (2 of our top 5) 2 of our top SS prospects in Schobel & De Andrade. MIA would want a good catching prospect but we don't have any really (we can still throw one in anyway). This would be a good trade if MIA likes it. In any case they need to check to see if Luzardo's arm is OK before pulling the trigger. It appears MIA wants only prospects but if they would take a young player that could be figured in.

Twins Relievers Are Pitching Out of Their Minds
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm happy with how the group sits right now. Especially now they have Alcala up & using him right. I'm interested in Diego Castillo return to MLB. Consequently he has resolved his command problem to go with his stuff. For the time being they should have Varland in the BP & up at MLB. The same goes for Canterino whenever he gets back & ramped up. And of course the return of Stewart, our BP could be the best. -
From the 1st time I saw him I knew that Lewis has that something special. His baseball knowledge & most of all his attitude & leadership. Even if he doesn't hit any grand-slams, he'll be the contributing factor. He'll be psyed up & ready to play. Can't wait to see him on the field again.

I'm a defense freak, I love to watch good defense. But even I know that 1B is where you want a player to hit the snot out of the ball not how well he plays defense. I don't understand why so many put so much importance on defense at 1B & ignore the importance of defense at catcher, SS, CF & 2B. IMO it's ridiculous to sign Santana because of his defense.
-
The best solution was not getting Margot & Santana. They log jamming their positions. We have Keirsey, Wallner & Martin that should be playing ball. Julien was not demoted he was sent down to work on his swing hopefully that won't take long. When he comes back he'll be a better player. That is what we need to look at

I wouldn't do it but. It'd take a lot, for my friends here is a couple examples. Julien straight up plus a throw in according to BTV. Athletics NAME POSITION SURPLUS Emmanuel Rodriguez OF 22.1 Gabriel Gonzalez OF 11.0 David Festa SP 8.7 Tanner Schobel SS 8.0 Total Value: 49.8 49.80 Twins NAME POSITION SURPLUS Mason Miller RP 47.8 Total Value: 47.80 If OAK does sell there'll be a lot of competion so knowing OAK, they'll won't sell unless they get moon. IMO we'll be fine with Duran, Steward, Jax, Varland & Canterino

HOU is still a smart team, it was good experience for SWR, Like you said Hans, SWR was composed, that means a lot for a young SP. Miranda,Larnach & Kirlioff had nights in the absence of Correa

Willi Castro May Be Twins Latest, Greatest Come Up
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did the Twins sought Castro? Or wasn't it Castro seeking the Twins out? I was very impressed with Castro's 1st spring training. But several walk ons excelled over their in-house competition yet were sent down dejected never playing in a Twins' game. Crazy to say that it was fortuntely that there were several injuries that allowed Castro comeup with team. He got to play in enough games to increase his confidence & he took off. Because of the injuries to Lewis, Correa & Buxton, he started wane. He's very valuable to us & should be extended- 19 replies

Margot & Farmer amongst others started out poorly. Because of injuries, they were forced to play regularly against RHPs which contributed to their further downfall that had to really messes up a guy's head. They are strictly used against LHPs & they want them to get as many ABs to try to get them out their funk. Because it's ridiculous how far Farmer is off his game hitting. I was against obtaining Margot & Santana & I'd DFA Margot, Santana & Farmer but that is a different subject.

Ober wasn't doing that great down in AAA before he was called up permanently. But when he was called up again he raked. I believe if Varland is called up again & is settled in the BP again, he rake. Independent of what he's doing in AAA.

Twins' main reason to trade him was his salary. They wanted to free up his salary to sign a big-name SS. & I agree with your reason why we signed him.

Agreed, because of that I'd rate my #1 as Donaldson- his production wasn't bad but his salary killed us & devasted our catching corp to appropiate. #2 Park- he never adjusted #3 Shoemaker #4 Happ #5 Gallo #6 Lynn- he was a good signing but being disgruntled made it bad All other signings were good signings but poorly managed. Colume if used in lower leverage 1st instead of being showcased extensively as our closer, he'd have been fine. Bundy was signed as a piggy-back pitcher, in limited innings he was very good but they later decided that all SPs needed to go 7. Being overextended his pitching went down hill. Simmons was a great signing. W/o spring training, he provided great defense & before he went down because of covid he was having a career hitting season. But during his IL stint, they "properly" trained him & after his return he was absolutely terrible. The Vazquez signing was very good. Besides providing great defense, it took the burden off Jeffers's shoulders so he could lift himself up from the ashes to be a 1st class hitting catcher.

Since Paddack pitched 8 innings, I have been advocating to bring Varland up in long relief. The whole rotation & short relief have been taking up the slack in the offense, They have been worn thin & need a breather. I wanted a BP game, Varland start & pitch as long as he can & later have Sands pitch at least a couple. That'll push back each SP a start. & Varland can stay up in that capacity. We still can do that or maybe bring up Festa (to get his feet wet & send him down) & keep Varland still in long relief. I think that'd be a good idea.
