  1. LH hitter, Kiriloff had trouble hitting any pitcher (which is very troubling, since what kind of hitter he is, who can normally hit any pitcher) to be replaced by a RH hitter who can hit any pitcher. This should be a nontopic. What should be a concern is a pure hitter like Kiriloff is not able to solve quickly this problem. The problem is then physical, mostly likely due to playing the OF instead of extensively playing 1B due to his arm history. In other words our problem is Santana, a problem this FO is hesitant to solve. They'd rather save face than saving Kiriloff career which the Twins can profit from.
  2. I agree with Brian that too often this FO likes to major in minor details & miss the big picture. Yet it's very unfortunate that our LH hitters Wallner & Julien are having swing problems, Kiriloff (?) and Keirsey is on the IL, not available, But what can we do? Martin isn't too bad against RHPs & he's a spark plug. We are at a soft spot in our schedule. Hopefully, soon any combination of Lee, Keirsey, Kiriloff, Julien & Wallner will become available to where they are forced to make a decision on RH-sided Farmer, Margot & Santana, even though they're hitting better. They convince sports writers that MN big need for the deadline is a corner RH bat.(?)
  3. Kiriloff was healthy to begin the season & his hitting reflected that. Because of his past arm problems, he should have been limited to 1B/ DH, but because of Santana, Kiriloff played mainly OF. The longer he played OF, the worse his hitting got, Kiriloff is a pure hitter so any mechanical problem is minor & quickly resolved. This problem only got worse. IMO his shoulder has been giving him problems so he can't maintain his swing but not serious enough to land on the IL. So should he have been sent down? I say no, but because of Santana, he had to be sent down to rest his arm & get it back in shape. The combination of Kiriloff, Miranda & Julien would have been a far superior choice than Santana.
  4. I do think that they could reevaluate the hitting coaches, but IMO Popovich is doing a good job. IMO the main problem is the team's hitting (all or nothing) philosophy that influences our scouting, draft picks, development, FA signing & maybe to some extent the hitting coach hirings. Firings of coaches (like they did a couple of years ago) won't do any good if they don't change their philosophy priority. That change will produce a massive overall of the system over several years to undo it.
  5. Right now Martin is up & Keirsey is still on the IL. The rest aren't ready yet. Again to voice my grievance on obtaining Santana & Margot, Even though they are producing now, they are taking up valuable playing time & roster spots of in-house players who are superior offensively. To protect him, Kiriloff should be playing extensively 1B because of his past arm problems. Kiriloff started out the season as one of our best hitters. The longer he played OF, the worse his hitting got. Although he's not on the IL, IMO his shoulder isn't what it should be to maintain his hitting, I'd really like to know what Martin & Keirsey have on the MLB level. For that they need a lot of playing time & a roster spot. Kiriloff & Miranda need extensive time at 1B & Martin & Keirsey need extensive time in the OF to properly evaluate whether we need to shop a bat or not. Plus the added salary of Santana & Margot hamstrings us from doing so. Severino has been bit by the same bug as Wallner & Julien, so he's out of the question. When Keirsey, Wallner, Julien & Lee are ready. Farmer, Margot & Santana should be gone.
  6. Catching is the premiere defensive position and Vazquez is one of the top ones, Jeffers is considerably lower. Right now he's out hitting Jeffers, Vazquez was brought in to resurrect our catching staff after the departure of Garver & Rortvedt in '22. Jeffers hasn't proved yet that he can physically & emotionally take on the primary catching duties. IMO during this hitting slump of Jeffers w/o any defensive chops to fall back on he'd flounder much like '21 & especially '22. Vazquez should take the credit for being Jeffers safety net in '23 so he could thrive & be recognized as a viable catcher. Plus his defense, it's great how he handles the pitchers & INFers. The fact that he's been healthy (which is unusual for a Twin & catcher) we have been very fortunate. Because Jeffers left alone with our shabby depth for a prolonged amount of time would be disastrous. While Carmargo is a pretty good AAA hitter (We have no idea how Carmargo will handle MLB pitching) & has a good arm, the Twins have failed to develop him enough defensively. So any idea of DFAing or trading Vazquez is ridiculous along with throwing the rest of '24 &'25 salary money away. We are stuck with Vazquez so why don't you try cheering for him instead of putting him down,
  7. Since Santana is a fixture at 1B, forcing Kiriloff at OF. Kiriloff is due for a breather from the OF at AAA. Once his shoulder is rested, he'll be back but maybe not since Santana is at 1B. Happy that the OB spark plug (Martin) is back up, should have a lot of time at 2B. 2nd time is the charm. I'm not looking at how many HRs that Wallner & Julien are hitting in AAA, I'm looking at the SOs & the hits outside half of the plate.
  8. PIT is still in the hunt for the wildcard. If they are selling, Twins shouldn't want anything they'll come to offer.
  9. Varland's start was overdue but happy it'll help the rotation. Thielbar should be DFAed, IMO he'd pass through. He might voluntarily go down. When was the last time Twins scored 17 runs?
  10. I think they got something to replace it. Don't know what. I think Jeffers liked that sausage.
  11. What an offensive game! In a good way. Ist HR of the day. Everybody hits & a few multi-hit players
  12. All of MIA SPs have had arm problems but IMO Mel Stottlemeyer manages his pitchers pretty well. Deadline arms are pretty tricky. I wouldn't give up Lee for Garret. There'll be competition for Tanner Scott. I'd be interested in A. J. Pukk if the Twins are in the market for a LHRP. He didn't work out as a starter but has been pretty good back in the BP. They are definitely shopping Chisholm but IMO it is not worth pursuing. I'd love to pick up a Luzardo or even a Cabreras but I'm a little gun-shy.
  13. Rocco pulled SWR with less than 5 innings, without the chance he could win the game in his 1st outing. The idea was to have SWR leave on a high note & not to jeopardize that. IMO it's the same idea with Varland on his 1st outing back with the chance that he could get the win if we scored & the BP held. That didn't happen, if it had everybody would be happy. No one knows if Varland pitched the 6th & blew up. Now that'd be a disaster. At least we have a good outing from Varland & him flying high. I'd DFA Thielbar, nobody'd pick him up & he can work on his stuff in AAA. If he corrects what's wrong, great bring him back up. We can't afford him doing it up here
  14. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the Twins beat the NYY for the pennant or at least knock them out
  15. I think all that plus the shoulder problem last season drained his strength & stamina. Because of that Kiriloff should have been limited to 1B/ DH for a good portion of the season & go on from there. But Santana screwed up all that. IMO Kiriloff has a sore arm that's not serious but affects his swing. It could be a minor mechanical problem, but I'd think he'd solve it by now. IDK what it is but management needs to know what it is & should have been dealt with a while ago. I'm sure Kiriloff is doing everything in his power to try to correct this problem.
  16. What do you think the point of spot start is if not giving the rotation a breather? If it's getting Varland 100 pitches in at SP no matter what, it'll be a long night.
  17. This might be a BP game. Give the ball to Varland & say give it all you got & see how far you can go. Destiny is in your hands. If he goes 5 great, if less fine. Varland can be a good SP in the future or he can be a very good RP now. I'd take the very good RP for now & see what happens.
  18. Come to think of it, it's a musical isn't it? Not crazy about musicals but I might make an exception.
  19. LOL! Very well put, I love it! Our answer is Joe Hardy. Lewis can be our Joe Hardy. From '65-'69 the Twins won series 13-5, 8-10, 12-6, 12-6, 10-2. Never saw the play, need to see the movie if there was one.
  20. Keep Varland up as a spot starter/ long relief. Twins need him in this capacity to keep the rotation & BP fresh for more quality innings & injury-free throughout the rest of the season. It's long overdue
  21. Also the fad is that the catcher creeps up & catches the ball earlier to steal strikes. This also causes more catcher interference & injury to catchers catching a bat across the forearms. Hurry up & bring in the ABS system.
