    Again I'll say the worst thing we did was by getting costly, worthless veterans who took up playing time & space from our young players. We need to put Kiriloff & Miranda at 1B to protect their arms & let them have as much playing time as possible to see what they can really do. Kiriloff is a puzzle, IMO something is bothering his arm therefore his swing. Now that Julien is being reset at AAA, they need to bring up Keirsey to free up Castro to play 2B against RHPs. Please no more Farmer hitting against RHPs. Lee will come up sometime & that'll be a process to get him settled in MLB.

    IMO The problem is not recognizing the inefficiency of the "all or nothing" approach until well into the season. If they reset the hitting program since spring training, we'd be in better shape. IMO the "all or nothing" approach is not Popvich's idea or fault. But that's not to say he'll not be blamed for it. The "all or nothing" approach thrives on FBs not on the outside. That's why all the non-FBs. Popvich helped Jeffers with breaking away from that approach last year. Somehow pitchers have adjusted & Jeffers is fine-tuning. Buxton is too streaky & not hot enough. Castro & Correa are dependable, Miranda, Kepler, & Larnach have been good. Kiriloff has been a puzzle (IMO his arm is overused in the OF) he's a great hitter. Even Santana, Margot, Vazquez & Farmer have improved. The problem they're not putting it together & hitting in the clutch. You can help teach not striking out but clutch hitting is hard to teach. Being gut punch again by NYY doesn't help either. Once "Mr Clutch" Lewis gets settled in again we can go on an extended winning streak.

    Love the name, Zebulon, love the pitcher. He's showing great stuff & control. I was very optimistic with Julien the other day but the 3 Ks from him & Wallner yesterday makes me wonder.

    Thanks, Longdistance for that reporting out there. Yes, we are rightfully a laughingstock to NYY fans, because of this record. Don't you think that the NYY players don't enter the game understanding the edge they have, that they own the Twins? You don't have to work anything up, the confidence is there & if you are the NYY organization wouldn't you want to cultivate that dominance over the Twins?

    The Minnesota Twins have a record of 44-123 against the Yankees since 2002. I think this is a pretty astounding record. I don't think NYY is that great. When was the last time they won the WS? Or even gone there? & we have had pretty good teams during that time also. I think the biggest difference between us & them is money. When NYY is bad they can raise their floor to mediocre by spending. When NYY was great in the 60s we would beat them. Can't you see whenever we play NYY we freeze. IMO it goes beyond just facing a good team. It seems that worse teams than us throughout this period do better than us. Twins have been brought down into submission. How do you explain that? It's all in the organization's & player's mind? IMO w/o Soto NYY is a very beatable team. Soto has had a bad arm, why didn't NYY rest him against the lowly Twins & save him for LAD? You're maybe right & I'm reading too much into it, to try to make sense in all this.

    Lot of fans like to complain about Vazquez hitting & overlook his defense. When he's hitting they are quiet. Here is the last 7 day trend Jeffers 0-11, 2 BB, 6 SO, 0.000 BA Vazquez 3-8, 1 HR, 1 2B, 2BB, 0 SO, .500 OBP. Vazquez faced 3 NYY RHPs

    Is it that the Twins' players are psyched out? At least not in the beginning. This has been going on for decades w/o the players being aware of. So what is it? IMO NYY organization is ruthless. They know the advantage of owning a team especially one who they'll probably face in the post season. I imagine that they really psych up their players & fanbase before they face the Twins, to go all out to hold advantage over us. After that it affects Twins fans & then the players. Last season we took the season confrontation at NYY stadium even. So they were desperate & had to totally annilate the Twins with Soto this season to claim dominance. Soto has had a sore shoulder for some time now, NYY could have given Soto a rest after at least having advantage over the lowly Twins but no they show their priority of keeping dominance over the Twins over having Soto in the LAD series. But no they chose to hold over Soto & rest him for the LAD series. This shows how ruthless they are. What can we do about it? IMO it's a very difficult question. I have no direct solution except going all out to beat the NYY in every game & hold it as a proirity. At least not waving a white flag on our get away game. NYY never rested Soto, or Judge but the Twins rested both Buxton & Lewis, forcing Farmer to play 2B against a RHP. If the Twins tried to win our get away game with NYY, By winning NYY on our get away game we would have left NY, resuming our season & facing them again on a positive note. Like I said it's a difficult question, so I'd appreciate any feed back on what your opinion & solution could be.

    I thought very highly of Francona (CLE), I thought his absense would demoralize this team. I've been amazed that I was very wrong. Also some have poo-pooed this team saying yes, they have a great RISP BA but are due to regression, Yet MN has a very poor RISP BA & is due for a rebound. It'll all average out. Team that have high RISP BA signifies "clutch" hitting, a desirable characteristic. A characteristic that a team has or doesn't have. CLE may have some regression but still they are clutch hitting team. Just like you have a great HR hitting team may have regression yet they are still a HR hitting team. CLE focuses on clutch hitting, MN have focused on HRs. I prefer clutch hitting. & prefer the Twins did too. There has been a lot of hope in "Mr. Clutch" Lewis. The gut punch from NYY has taken the wind from our sails. It's not going to be as easy as most anticipated but IMO we can still overcome the deficit & win the division.

    SWR, 97.2 mph WOW! He keeps getting better! He deserves better. I thought that the Twins would blow Carmen Mlodzinski away from the start. They didn't & PIT's BP game got the best of the Twins. BP game is an option that the Twins should consider at times. IMO the most disappointing loss of the season. Are the Twins picking up old habits? Is FO telling Baldelli, "fans don't want wins they want HRs, stay with the "all or nothing" approach?"

    Thanks Eric, for the time & info you put into this article. I love your article. giving credence to the fact that umps are human that lean towards bias, fan influence & just plan error. Baseball isn't a game of inches, it's a game of mms. Although I agree that balls & strike cannot be argued for the continuity of the game but that doesn't take away the importance of getting balls & strikes correct. There are teams that are heavily favored (NYY) which pitchers are forced to serve up meatballs. & teams that are heavily penalized (MN). It's bad enough that NYY has the money to sign & pay big name players. Steal away coaches from smaller markets & given "goldilocks" balls. Even all of this we believe if we play harder we can overcome these hinderances. But IMO the unfairness of the calling balls & strikes is the last straw. These miscalls are very disheartening to the teams & fans. IMO MLB don't want to change because it benefits some big teams & they want us to believe that accepting this umps imperfect favoritism leads to baseball romanticism. The adoption of the electronic balls & strikes doesn't take anything away from the game except biased unfairness. I advocate against challenging of the balls & strikes because challenging about 10+ legit incorrect miscalls & X amount of correct calls would take away from the game. The robo ump would be seamless. Plus it'd stop the demonization of human umpires, which IMO most umps would be in favor of. We still need umps.

    Eeles, has been electrifying (sorry for this pun again). He has become one of my favorite MiLB players, if not my favorite. I'd love to see him play. He seems like a diamond in the rough. A complete player with a great attitude & leadership quality. IMO a keeper & is overdue for a promotion. Thanks Seth for presenting this guy to us. Miller, an elite SS who's just started to unlock his hitting potential.

    There's no stretch to see that Lee is a naturally great INFer but of course he needs time to get the feel at 2B, While Julien is overstretch at 2B, he really has to work at it. Therefore my suggesting that they should have Lee at 2B & Julien at 1B. Julien was a poor 2B in his MiLB career & started out MLB worse. It's really hard for me to see Julien improve as much as many say, I don't trust the defensive stats that they spin. Which protrays Julien as good & Correa & Santana worse than they are. It seems to me that somehow Correa & Santana are compensating for Julien to make him look better than he is. Lee is a much better 2Bman than Julien naturally, he makes our whole INF better and has a leg up on Julien. Lee is a better overall hitter but Julien's approach make him more of a power hitter.

    Very true they couldn't pay them but until a couple of years ago they couldn't develop them. The constant outflow of pitchers, those pitchers dramatically got better after leaving. To name a few Glasnow, Cole & Musgrove were so-so SPs with PIT but became elite SPs with other teams. Archer was a very good & promising SP before PIT & was terrible after, In the last couple of years PIT has upgraded their pitching development dramatically, As we saw last night

    PIT always had a good eye for good pitching & not able to develop it properly with bad team. I really wanted for us take advantage of that situation. They still have a good eye for ptching but now they are able to develope it & are a team to be reckoned with.

    Julien went down to AAA to make room for Lewis but the most important reason is to change his approach. Now that he's down together with Lee, they need to have Lee on 2B & Julien at 1B. 1B will be Julien long-term position so why not finally have him play there? Which is the next important reason.

    I really like Elias Diaz & wish we had him in our system but what do we do with Vazquez & his $10MM/ yr.? Vazquez is catching more games is because he's a much better catcher & Jeffers has 60% more ABs because he's a much better hitter, The last 2 game trend Vazquez has 1 HR, 1 double, 1 BB, 0 Ks 6ABs against RHPs Gil & Stoman. Jeffers is 0-8, 0 BB, 2 Ks, against Brown & LHP Rodon. Vazquez is a very good back-up the problem is price tag
