  1. Agree with the post above The comments (Arraez, Steer, et al) are 20/20 revisionist that is "half an inch of water and you think your'e going to drown."
  2. I feel like this has been commented to death. 1) we all love Luis Arraez 2) the Twins wanted/ needed another starting pitcher. 3) the Twins were hoping for an infield of Kirilloff-1B, Polanco-2B, Miranda-3B, Correa-SS, and Farmer and Lewis as other players. When Arraez was traded the Twins picked up Solano and Castro. It would be nice to have an Arraez hitting, but who gets cut? Kirilloff? Polanco? Buxton? Baseball always has questionable trades, drafts, and so forth. Steve Carlton was traded and so was Lou Brock. The problems with the Twins scoring runs does not center around the loss of Luis Arraez. Pablo Lopez has been fine. When Correa and a multitude of others begin to swing the bat with more proficiency, the team will run off some winning streaks. We can wish Arraez the best and still wish the Twins well at the same time.
  3. Skenes, yes, if he is still on the board when the Twins pick at #5. Otherwise, choose the best player available which would be one of the outfielders. Talent plays. Dollander and Lowder would be fair picks if the Twins were outside the top seven, but they are not - #5 is an opportunity, not a gamble.
  4. I don't remember any angst about choosing Griffey Jr,. a left handed kid. If the Twins are "left" with Clark or Jenkins, they better be ecstatic.
  5. Big, big difference between Wallner and Sabato. Wallner may be a little awkward but he can run, throw, hits for power, hits for average, and gets on base plenty. He could work himself into being a fair outfielder too. Sabato takes some walks.
  6. Did we have this exact article/discussion last year about Miranda? Hopefully Royce Lewis plays 150-162 games per season at third base for the next decade, but that is far away.
  7. Two college bats that are still making outs and two high school guys who are very promising.
  8. I didn't intend to be negative in my previous comment. It is early June and both Max Kepler and Jorge Polanco have been incredibly fun players to watch since their careers began. I have wanted to see another couple of years from each of them, and things can still turn around, hopefully. Mixed feelings was a great title for a recap of the week. The Twins may be receiving a rebound from Correa and there still is some faint wishes that Buxton is not done, but Max and Jorge have been the soul of this team and missed a few chances, although Polo came up big once recently. Are the next guys ready? It might be time. The growing strike outs and weak bats can't continue if the Twins are going to be competitive. TBR & TOR makes for a new test this week. The baseball season is a grind unlike any other sport.
  9. Despite my general optimism and hopes for the Twins this season, they are not a very good baseball team if viewed from a distance. Apparently the Twins want to prove those prognosticators who predicted 82-85 wins correct.
  10. The Twins never seemed in on Murphy, so Vasquez was a great signing. A less than stellar start with the Twins won't be a concern if Christian can get untracked to provide some quality at bats and be the catcher needed for the pitchers. I'm not too worried right now, especially because Jeffers is looking much better as a catcher.
  11. Forgot one big point. Ryan Jeffers has been great lately and I thought he had his best game yet as a catcher last night. Jeffers was impressive at the plate but particularly behind it.
  12. Notes: Easy to sign up for Apple TV free trial. Don't care at all for the either the announcers or camera work from Apple TV. Good game with some nice defense and pitching. The batters worked too, just hard to score runs. Ober was really good but the guys coming up had had the best swings and his control was fading ever so slightly. Baldelli made the correct calls and the relievers performed excellently. Someone mentioned Brooks Lee. I have seen quite a few of his at bats. He can play shortstop but is in no way ready to face MLB pitchers. He also is not going to replace any of Lewis, Correa, or Polanco and Castro is a better option for utility due to speed. Maybe 2024 or 2025. Kepler has struggled but the guy can still play. He gets another month or so. Maybe Gallo gets the IL and Wallner or Larnach have another opportunity. Still would like to see the Twins go with twelve pitchers but know it won't happen. Gray and Ryan could be good matchups to get quick outs in the next two games but baseball is always a challenge from at bat to at bat and inning to inning. The pitching and depth have the Twins in a decent spot in early June. They are only nine games back of Tampa Bay and the offense has yet to perform consistently. The Twins are trending up ..... today.
  13. If we have to rate top five right now ... 1. Joe Ryan 2. Sonny Gray 3. Bailey Ober 4. Pablo Lopez 5. Louie Varland.
  14. I find myself hoping that Joey Gallo can do something positive every time he comes to the plate. He is working hard in my opinion, which I give hime credit for and admire. Baseball is a tough sport. That said, my hopefulness and optimism for Gallo sees a guy who makes a few plays in the field but is not the guy he once was with a glove. He is not close to as good at first base as Kirilloff and does not come close to Kepler as an outfielder any longer. His bat is very sad these days. Since April, Gallo is wishing and searching for the ball and it is increasingly hard to find for the big guy. I remain hopeful but a decision will be necessary if July arrives with Gallo still looking so sad. You pick who takes his spot if the futility goes on another five weeks. Can Joey turn it around in June?
  15. Morgan has been interesting to watch but the Twins do not need to draft anyone for first base unless Lou Gerhrig returns. Kirilloff is set for a decade and the Twins drafted a first baseman to serve as an example of why not to make that mistake again.
  16. The best position young position player the Twins have in their system is a first baseman, Alex Kirilloff. He is good defensively and is a guy who can hit now and should improve. I'm afraid first base is the most certain positive the team has and that leaves those who want to play first base on the outside. Julien can still hit his way to a regular spot but the Twins better hope Polanco holds the position because he is really good and it would be a shame if Jorge fails.
  17. Polanco was announced as returning to the roster last night with Julien returning to the Saints. Julien was fine but I believe Polanco remains the best player on the team and will provide a lift in all ways, shapes, and forms to the Twins and their fans.
  18. All credit for Matt Wallner continuing to focus at the plate. He has looked really tuned in and willing to smash the ball to all fields in this streak. It seemed that Wallner was prone to looking for pitches to pull late last season and early this year for the Twins. The Twins will need to evaluate their options and think hard about what Wallner's bat could mean for their season. There may be some hesitancy to move on from Joey Gallo or Max Kepler ( a long time favorite of mine), but Falvey and his study group have a real hot hitter in AAA. Who is likely to help the team win games?
  19. Lewis was in a group of five as well. Hunter Greene has some SI hype but it was known that he would need time to learn how to pitch. Greene was never seen as a Doc Gooden. FWIW, the top five this year are supposedly all rated higher than any of the five from 2017. It will be five years before we know enough to judge these guys from 2023.
  20. I don't care ..... it's in the past. Falvey gonna do whatever he wants to do. Never liked Mahle even when he was ok with the Reds. Just not the guy for winning against good teams. Still supported the trade for pitching, and yes, I still love the trade for Pablo Lopez. Who would trade one of Kirilloff, Lee, or Lewis for Steer and CES? That said, I always tried to catch as many CES at bats last season as possible. He does hit the ball really hard. Final thought is haunted houses are pretty lame.
  21. FWIW, Wallner is trying to force the Twins hand. He has a double, triple, and home run in his return to AAA.
  22. I take it you are not fans of Ober and Varland? They seem like fair #4 and #5 starting pitchers for most any MLB team.
  23. I cannot find the article that involved a discussion among a number of long term scouts who suggested that the top five this year are all better prospects than all but Adley Rutschman in the last ten years and they expect them to be stars.. Time will tell on those predictions.
  24. I'm still hoping for Max Clark. He has present skills and fantastic upside. Remember that the Twins didn't think much of Corbin Carroll. I would hope the Twins take a player with a chance to play in the MLB All Star Game and not somebody who projects a s a pretty good hitter. I liked Steer and CES two years ago but neither projects as a Julio Rodriguez. Passing on Skenes is improbable. I watched several of his games and he looks tough. Still, I'm totally confounded by how the Twins management works. Confounded, not upset in any way.
