  1. The entire way the club has been dealing with its roster has been much a disappointment to me since the close of the 2023 season.
  2. Perhaps you did not see Seth's comment and similar thoughts from others in other posts regarding Rodriguez. Emmanuel is only a few days back at AAA and his rehab is going ok but, to be clear, EmRod is nowhere near MLB ready right now based just on returning from surgery. Maybe Rodriguez makes sense around Labor Day depending on how he looks between now and then.
  3. This is interesting. Roden has looked weak in the outfield and that may explain his work and why he wasn't used yesterday.
  4. The odd unbalanced roster construction and failure to address it was quite evident after the 2023 season. The drafts have seen some change toward more athletic players but the front office is still struggling to move fully forward. The deadline frenzy in July of 2025 seemed to portend further moves. The mythical Red Sox-Twins trade that fell through and making the Alex Jackson deal the centerpiece of your offseason was a loud thud of reality for those of us who imagined an influx of talent. This offseason there are some obvious examples of changes that need to occur and there should be opportunities for transactions unless other MLB front offices hold their Minnesota colleagues in low regard, which really doesn't seem that likely. A salary cap does nothing for the Twins and if it came with a salary floor the team could be a bigger mess next season. The owners created the revenue morass and only they can fix it. I'm wondering how the Dodgers, Yankees, and a few other clubs are going to respond to losing huge swaths of income which is currently "protected" by previous deals made between the owners. Does that seem realistic? Finally, I will revert to suggesting that money has not been a problem for roster construction. Identifying talent and making the moves needed to address weaknesses are the issue. One can only sit and hope that enlightenment dawns on the front office and Twins ownership that then allows the franchise to move in a positive direction.
  5. Cold-hearted thinking would logically agree with your statement. Each decade wants to identify a player that fits in a club's HOF. Maybe we should be comparing Buxton to Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco or someone else. The article almost seems a bit disrespectful to Hbek whose contributions were much greater on a consistent basis over a longer period of time.
  6. How many DH players will the Twins use in the field? Right now, with consideration that it is too early to judge KC at SS, the Twins are below average at every single defensive position. The manager has to play someone at each position and the changes made this year actually improved the defense. The changes do not obscure the current reality. I do think that both Brooks Lee and Royce Lewis are growing into their positions. This winter a few hard choices will need to be made concerning the outfield. It isn't likely that the Twins drastically improve their defense but some change is needed to give the pitchers a chance. What to do with Luke Keaschall could be an interesting offseason topic.
  7. This is a strange comparison. Good job using numbers I guess, but I cannot see the two in a comparison.
  8. Or maybe parity has come to baseball. Pretty much every team has holes that bring their team an even record. A surprise is that the Yankees have held their ground without some key players.
  9. The Twins are in a tough spot if Austin Martin cannot play because they have a number of choices and only one is even remotely acceptable. Mendez and Wallner are not only showing holes in their swings but are DH only at the MLB level. Gabriel Gonzalez has been struggling quite a bit at the plate and is also only a DH. Ben Ross can play defense but leads the AAA Saints in strikeouts which is not a good predictor of MLB success. I wonder if both Buxton and Martin are day to day. Walker Jenkins is the only viable position player to call up from the Twins minor league system. Oh, congratulations to Matt Wallner for tying Carson McCuster's AAA Saints home run record today. It was a total bomb.
  10. Wondered about whether Caratini was injured. He sure has not looked ok since July 22. Today was probably a telling point. The Phillies were giving Caratini a base in the 9th inning and he didn't run, even when Duran threw a wild pitch that rolled about 60 feet away. Victor just looks hurt recently.
  11. Seth, the trades of Durbin and Collins tell me more than the deals sending Burnes and Peralta for prospects. The Brewers identify areas of need and players who might net a solid return even if those players are really good and still have years of control remaining. The Twins had a great chance to trade a couple or three guys after the 2023 season who held good value at the time. The question is - would the Twins trade a very highly thought of player this coming offseason because the return makes sense?
  12. The club needs to take some chances. Nick is correct. Both Rojas and Jenkins belong at Target Field. Naturally, there is no guarantee for the rookies but Jenkins would improve the defense quite a bit. If Buxton is not ok physically he needs to go back on the IL and the Twins can hope he gets healthy and back in gear after Labor Day. The Players need to pull together and re-focus, starting tomorrow. The plate appearance in the 9th inning today by Kaelen Culpepper was a positive blueprint to follow (even as a broken bat roller), just as the plate appearances by Jeffers and Buxton were examples of a poor approach. Tough week ahead against teams with really good pitching that include shut down bullpens.
  13. I'm sorry to report for those who haven't seen Ross play a couple dozen times, he is not MLB ready. That said, I'm always happy to see someone get a shot at playing out their dreams. I think people have underestimated the contributions of Ryan Kreidler but if the Twins are moving on from him next year, Ross would love the gig.
  14. Shock jocks have been around for some time. Henny Penny, The Rainmakers who traveled from town to town, Howard Stern - The King of All Media had a copycat by the name of Bubba the Love Sponge. Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes loved All Star Wrestling and brought that to television. Their big star was a failure at every stop until his act made him god - Bill O'Reilly. Josh Donaldson, Smith, and all these guys are just chasing the dough and they don't have a single iota of conscience. It's all about the Benjamins. The really odd thing is that millions of people are thoroughly entertained and the truly weird angle is that many people think they are saying legitimate things. Plouffe makes sense, Donaldson .... not.
  15. The Twins have fifteen games in a row against AL Central clubs. They will wait until their odds are too long to recover from with the remaining schedule or at least until those fifteen games have been completed. Bell is a bigger threat at the plate than Larnach. The ship has sailed for Keaschall as an infielder. Keaschall should be a DH at times. The Twins bet on the old horses, which many of their fans and many on Twins Daily desired to see. There could have been opportunities to trade last winter or at the deadline a few weeks ago. The club chose a different path. Now they have to play out the decision. My guess is that only injuries change the course at this time. Either way, we will be paying attention.
  16. Victor Caratini was so good when Ryan Jeffers was out/ on the IL. Whatever he looks out of it at times. He walked in the 9th inning but did not take second base on indifference or a wild pitch, which was really poor. Jeffers was hitting for a while but that at bat in the 9th inning was pathetic. He was given three pitches in a row basically on a tee but tried to hit each about 500 feet when a double in the RC alley scores two runs. Buxton tried to make us all forget that poor PA by showing everyone why he belongs on the IL until he is healthy. There is another game tomorrow but today was more discouraging than the previous two routes.
  17. The article completely botches why Jenkins is still in AAA. The Twins decided, for better or worse and much to the joy or chagrin of us hacks on Twins Daily, to run out their veteran lineup in 2026. This meant keeping Wallner, Larnach, Martin, Buxton, Keaschall, Roden in the outfield with Kreidler and Clemens going out there on occasion. The Twins held Ryan, Jeffers, and more for the same reason. The Twins idea was to reach the playoffs. The decision was made by ownership and the front office. Derek Shelton has to shuffle whatever cards he receives.
  18. How many times have you watched Jenkins play baseball? All of your points about why the Twins have not called up Jenkins are valid, i.e. - the roster is full. When say you are not impressed but have never seen the guy play, you lose anyone who read your legitimate point about the full roster. Just as an aside - What do you think about Yovanny Duran?
  19. The Twins almost certainly would have a difficult time playing Walker Jenkins ahead of the Larnach/Martin, Buxton, and Keaschall outfield. I can empathize with the thinking that tiptoes around veterans. In terms of better, I might have a different point of view. Jenkins would be my choice as the best all around outfielder.
  20. Yes, he does need to learn and he is learning but it was the correct call to leave him in to pitch, precisely for a learning experience. While it would be sweet for the Twins to win the World Series this year I am stunned that they still have a solid chance at 81 or more wins.
  21. Steve Carlton popped into my head right away and then Kaat and then a second before Thome.
  22. Oh, I agree with you. By the way, for those who refer to innings pitched by Prielipp from year to year, there is absolutely zero evidence or study relating innings pitched from year to year to injuries or to ineffectiveness. Prielipp is healthy and he is on a steep learning curve. Stuff happens.
  23. Jeffers is more of a hitter. He does ok behind the plate, but the nuances are not part of his game.
  24. Maybe .... I don't know. Not so much that .... more that it seems so outdated to focus on hair, tattoos, jewelry, eye black, style of wearing uniform, etc., but we see it on this site and we sometimes hear Cory and Kris Atteberry wax on about these things. Maybe it has become ok to say stuff that was once objectionable. Whatever ..... would be better if people didn't, but that is just my opinion too.
