Fans just have to accept that this almost certainly a clubhouse concern, where the front office isn't comfortable putting Larnach in to a Alex Jackson role or releasing Trevor. Larnach would need to get injured or so it seems. Otherwise Jenkins stays in AAA.

Very confused how so many people missed that play. It was crystal clear to me that the throw was perfect and on time to get the out at third. It was a big time play by a rookie. The replay (frame by frame) confirmed what I saw. Shelton stated that the play looked good but mentioned that he had not seen the replay. The postgame comments by Lee further confirm what happened. Stuff happens. The breaks all went San Diego's direction. If one wants to take anything away from the game it is that defense and putting the ball in play are crucial parts to baseball.

This West Coast trip provides quite the contrast in opponents. San Diego is an experienced team with sluggers, a winning record, and a shut down bullpen. The Twins will need to be sharp in the field, pitch well, and score in innings 1-5. The West Sacramento A's are decimated from injuries with starters, relievers, and their six best position players on the IL. The Twins will face a young hungry group of A's wanting to take a bite out of the Twins. The Twins will need to show the A's what they are, which is a better team at this time. Sometimes clubs get lost on these trips out to the coast. The Twins have a chance to rise in the next week before their fifteen battles in a row with the AL Central. Hopefully, Connor Prielipp is focused and geared up to shut down the Friars tonight.

"All three players have something to prove. And all three could have very different roles when the Twins return to Target Field next season." All three could be parts of blockbuster transactions this coming offseason too. The future is wide open. The Twins front office will have some decisions to make about a number of players and their ideas will result in the roster chosen to begin 2027. Will they gamble or play it back again?

This topic was thoroughly covered from both viewpoints in the comments (150+) to an article where Twins GM Jeremy Zoll explains .... In sum, call him up because he offers better defense, better baserunning, and could provide the offense the Twins want to help them win games. In sum, do not call him up because Jenkins does not replace Bell, Buxton, or Keaschall and the Twins are very unlikely to release Trevor Larnach (or reduce him to Alex Jackson playing time).

This will be a subject next February and March among the front office, field staff, and players. The general rule is to put players where there is the greatest benefit to the club. What arrangement in the outfield has the highest odds for contributions that win games.

If you only seek the negative you will find it. The Yankees are losers because they haven't won a World Series in years. Aaron Judge is always injured. Paul Skenes is mediocre. We read all the time that MLB needs every team to have a chance to compete. Well 24 clubs have a decent chance reach a .500 record. Do we say there aren't any good teams. There are a ton of good players and every team can win on any given day. Some years the hot team wins at the end of the year. Toronto had a great run last season and after selling at the deadline the Blue Jays are getting hot again. There are still 34-35 games left in the season. This season will be over soon enough but it has been a fun year to watch Twins baseball and that includes the losses too.

Rational has its place. If one accepts rational thought, Zoll's comments make perfect sense. It doesn't add anything to continually go Henny Penny (the sky is falling) on everything done by the Twins front office or owner. The Twins have been healthier than most other teams. Every club works out why and when to add players from AAA, especially prospects. Kade Anderson takes the place of the recently traded Luis Castillo in Seattle's 6 man rotation. George Lombard Jr. took shortstop from utility player Caballero who was subbing for the demoted Anthony Volpe. Kaelen Culpepper was called up to push Ryan Kreidler back to his utility position. Walker Jenkins is simply not being considered as a replacement for a healthy Buxton or Keaschall and he is not a DH (please don't write that he has been in the lineup as a DH) guy. That position is held by Josh Bell. Thus we only see Jenkins if Larnach and possibly Roden go down with injuries. Alex Jackson is not an outfielder so there is no use to invoke his name as Jenkins will not be called up to sit on the pine. Sometimes one should consider the rational thought as explained by Zoll and dismiss the know nothing talk show/podcast/radio voices seeking an audience/cash. I expected Jenkins to be in the lineup by now because I was rather certain that Trevor Larnach would have been traded and then it seemed like perhaps Buxton would be out for 6-8 weeks. Those things didn't happen and so rational thinking prevailed.

No, Keaschall cannot move to 2B unless all of Clemens, Lewis, and Kreidler are out. That ship has sailed. Walker Jenkins comes up if Buxton, Keaschall, or Larnach go on the IL. The reasoning and examples given by cpettit19 hold as do the examples. The Twins brought up KC, the Yankees brought Lombard Jr., etc. under very specific conditions. Unfortunately, those conditions do not exist (as of now) that make bringing up Jenkins a sound tactic. I thought Buxton was going to be down for six weeks or more with his recent hip injury and wanted Jenkins called up. Buck is back and playing. No room at this time. Injuries can happen at any point in the season. If the Twins need a full time outfielder from AAA, I think they call up Jenkins.

Based purely on watching Riley Quick in his last four outings, I believe he would have a heap of trouble in The Show. He threw quite a few fastballs right down the middle and got away with hanging several curve balls. The command is not there yet. Quick has a fantastic arm with great movement/stuff. He could develop as soon as next year. Right now? I doubt it. Trey Yesavage has/had a really good splitter and benefitted from that and his unfamiliarity to batters. Kendry Rojas could be our (new) guy in September.

In March I wanted Emmanuel on the team to start the season and was not a big fan of the moves last winter. EmRod then gets injured and is slowed up quite a bit, looking rusty still. That combined with Larnach playing well through July made for a more than full and sticky roster issue. The Twins apparently tried to move Larnach and I was surprised that the Twins were unable to complete a deal involving him. However, they didn't. So it appears that Walker Jenkins is ready for his opportunity. I agree with that. We can safely agree that he is not replacing either Buxton or Keaschall. That leaves Trevor Larnach. We are not in the clubhouse and do not have a handle on how benching Larnach for the remainder of the year would be received. The thoughts that Bell will sit are not much of an option, maybe once per week for a maximum. If Buxton and Keaschall are healthy, they are playing. Austin Martin will be the reserve outfielder versus LH pitchers when he returns. Roden is already sitting most of the time. To me it is really simple, if everyone remains healthy, Walker Jenkins is only called up to play full time and that means both Roden and Larnach become superfluous. I'm not sure the Twins are ready to make that decision.

I would be more shocked if that was a factor than if the Twins had signed Ohtani. Walker Jenkins is going to play for the Twins but not before there is an opening. There are three spots: Keaschall, Buxton, Larnach. Who gets to sit for 5 games per week if Jenkins is called up?

Senior Men's League pitchers are not usually part of a scout's viewing schedules, although in my experience a number of scouts and some pretty good pitchers participated in those leagues.

There is zero doubt in my mind that we will see Kendry Rojas back in a Twins uniform. Rojas has the stuff to shut down any batting order, but his inexperience likely means that fans (and the Twins) should not expect more than 5 innings at any stretch. Still 5 innings of 0-2 runs scored against is a solid outing. Anderson could fill a role should an injury occur. He keeps the ball off the barrel for the most part if not exactly blowing through lineups, which is worthwhile. Count me as surprised if German Marquez manages to pitch meaningful innings for the Twins, although it would make for a nice storybook return to the major leagues. The guy the Twins are hoping to turn to in September is Joe Ryan. Labor Day is September 7 this year and if Ryan can be at full strength from that time until the season ends, the Twins will have the pick-me-up person they want in their rotation.

Yes, it counts .... because the game was suspended and will continue on today before the regularly scheduled game. Watched Riley Quick last night and wondered what exactly the pitching coaches show him and/or suggest as skills that Riley needs to refine to prepare himself for the future. Quick has a couple of plus pitches but it looks like he struggles to repeat his delivery. The command within the strike zone will need to improve, but he is a big fellow and can overpower hitters. Quick will be one to watch because he could move through the system.

I'm sorry to report that "publicly accountable" is not something that made the leap across Y2K. It's a whole new world. Fraud is now considered smart/normal. I apologize to sundry this baseball site but I find it easier to just watch the games (MLB and milb) because the business side is well beyond any decency.

What do you believe the Twins will choose as a starting five next year, or what five would you choose? Does Ober return or is he let go/ perhaps traded? What do you believe the Twins should do with Trevor Larnach next year? I believe this was more or less the idea of the article. There are more than a few people who frequent Twins Daily who were less than enchanted with the recent deadline roster decisions. It makes little sense to become overly grumpy, sarcastic, or negative. We are merely fans. On our best day we don't know very much and i say that as someone who made good money working in baseball. Don't let the way things go ruin your day or cause such severe reactions. BTW, after a rather crushing loss Sunday, the wins the last two nights were fun stuff. 2026 sure beats the last two years of Twins play. Right? Even if the team is still below .500, not exactly more than mediocre much of the time, these mid August games are entertaining.

That is hilarious because he is among my 3-4 favorite Twins pitcher. So ..... any order - Bradley, Lopez, Ryan are a decent #1-3. Kremer and Ober work as #4-5. That leaves Prielipp, Abel, Rojas, Matthews, Paredes, Morris, Festa, Quick .... My preference is to see Prielipp, Abel, and Rojas in the rotation. The Twins will have some decisions to make. What do you have? Who else did I miss?

The Twins may feel that Ober fits as a #5 pitcher. Ryan/Lopez are #1/2, interchangeable and Kremer fits as a #4/5 guy. There are some decent candidates for #3 or other spots depending on which direction the front office/owners wish to go. Among the viable candidates for the rotation are Prielipp, Abel, Rojas, Matthews, and maybe someone else like Quick, Paredes, Morris, or Festa. What do you think?

The decisions will come down to how many DH players the team chooses to carry and how many #5 starting pitchers are needed. The fact that both are still around tells us that the Twins either really like both of these players or that decisions are hard to make for the front office.

At this point I'm just hoping the Twins get some value from Ryan Jeffers through the remainder of the 2026 season. He has not looked good behind the plate, at all. At the plate I'm hopeful he reverts back to hitting the ball hard as opposed to taking wild cuts and I think he will ..... hopefully.

Interesting timing. Since August 1 when Marek Houston went 2-5, he has gone 8-45. Houston has had a really good year but has hit the wall recently. Marek did quite a bit of work to address his swing last offseason. I suspect he will work on strength and flexibility this offseason as normal preparation for the 2027 season. Houston is likely to get his opportunity at AAA next April. How he performs at AAA will decide whether he gets a call next year or in 2028. Maybe the Twins are impressed by him in Spring Training.

The entire way the club has been dealing with its roster has been much a disappointment to me since the close of the 2023 season.
