Not to defend anything about the comment that you comment on but ..... Does Tampa Bay seem to get some production from 5 rookies every year? Curious.

Boras is really good at his job and he keeps his team of employees constantly searching for positions for any client of his corporation. The goal of an agent is to combine choice and contract for the athlete. Again and again we see Boras find teams willing to pay for guys. Sometimes that happens quickly and at other times Boras and his clients are patient while the market and teams come to a position of filling the roster. Joey Gallo signing with Washington is an amazing contract. Did that seem likely to you? The Twins and Falvey are not too affected by Boras and his guys this year really. Chapman doesn't fit into the same category as Polanco and/or Farmer. The others are in separate price points and fill different needs for teams as well. My take is that the Twins were never in on any free agent pitcher. I'm not sure that the teams who desire the Twins players are looking to sign those expensive names either. Every year seems different to me. The Twins have some valuable players they are willing to move in a deal that makes their team better and there are probably a few teams that are interested still in a transaction. The sticking point is cost and whether teams want to gamble a little. The never ending trade chatter last winter involving Max Kepler seems to be repeating itself. However, this year the names of Polanco, Farmer, and Vazquez join Kepler in discussions.. The Twins are in a good position with their roster. It is still possible that another team which needs one or more of those Twins guys to move their team up a notch in their hopes of competing within their divisions comes calling and meets Falvey's prices.

You are likely correct that the Brewers want to win the NL Central. Curious why the Brewers would even think about trading Williams when they are trying to win. They won't be eliminated by the deadline. They should be within reach, maybe eight games out at worst. The money thing is real for the Twins. We can wish for this and that but it is clear that finance appears in the plan. Without worries/concerns, the Twins might have pursued Matt Moore, Michael Wacha, or other reasonable contracts. We continue to hear that the Twins will make a MLB for MLB trade if it makes the team stronger. Polanco could go in such a scenario. However, moving Jorge just pushes the roster figure down if the player returning cost less and the Twins do not send money in a deal. Folks should not be surprised by a final number for the roster to sit around $110-120 million if not lower. Who knows?

The Arraez who won an AL batting title followed by an NL batting title, had over 600 PA in consecutive years, and led Miami to the playoffs last season? Same guy? If he did that with such bad knees the last two years, what can he do for an encore?

Miguel Sano signs minor league deal with the Angels

Good luck to Miguel Sano. -
I'm continually amazed at how little knowledge many folks have about the rigors of catching. As a left-handed pitcher i had a ton of very poor catchers and a few great ones but i respected their position. Then one day when i was near 40 (men's league0 our catchers were missing (injured or could not make it) and I suited up. I wound up catching over a 100 games and gained a mild test of the stress of the position. I think I lost a handful of toenails and the knees took a beating too. Ten years of catching is easily twenty years at any other position.

Is it ok if I remind you that many picked the Mets to go undefeated last year? Also, don't bet against Kansas City when they make trips to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers in mid June or in late September when the Royals close out the campaign in Atlanta. Houston can verify those odds from last season.

To be fair, sometimes there are obvious instances where a player waives the NT clause. Perhaps some people feel Correa would do so. Correa doesn't seem likely to simply let that go in my opinion. It seems fair to respect the clause and not include players in ideas for trades when a guy has insisted on a NT clause in their contract. Often the NT means the player gives up something, however slight, in return.

Not sure how you see that comment as "talk down" as it surely was nothing but a use of numbers to show how different stats don't necessarily work because of differences in positions. Nothing intended.

Finding a Jewel in the Ruins
tony&rodney commented on stringer bell's blog entry in stringer bell's Blog
Both pitchers are decent depth pitchers but not worth putting in the rotation in front of #4 Varland and #5 Paddack. Not a bad thought but they are more needed where they are now. -
Enjoyed this segment quite a bit. Particularly liked the comments from Lovin on meeting players where they are and navigating forward. As a retired AP History teacher and baseball coach, I always enjoy the breakdown of individual items and a positive approach. Baseball has always been very interesting to me because of how one deals with the failure. Lovin's comment on the focus towards small improvements is huge for pitchers developing their repertoires.

Oakland looking at minor league ballparks for a temporary home

No reason for the Angels to agree to anything for the A's. -
I believe Arraez was even more popular to Twins fans than Lewis. Falvey, Dipoto, and other front office folks look for ways to strengthen their teams. It is impossible to know how various people value any player. We are just guessing. Writers and various sites are also just guessing. People crunch data endlessly to make their arguments and valuations but in the end it is the people in the front office who make the calls and they have guys who crunch numbers who advise them. I will throw out a guess here and say that the Twins are not interested in a trade of Polanco for Woo. Again, just a guess and many others including Seattle will see it differently. The one thing I will add is that 30 years old is not the end of the line for an athlete. Mookie Betts is moving to second base full time, supposedly, as a 31 year old. It is always difficult to know when an athlete can no longer meet the physical demands of professional sports. I don't believe Jorge Polanco is nearly done.

I have seen most of Royce Lewis' plate appearances. That hasn't been very many thus far. I'm not putting down Lewis in any way nor have I at any time. Lewis had some big hits, made some noise, and garnered a following on Twins Daily. He has a bright future in my opinion. It is a little early to compare him to anyone who has played a full season though. Lewis hasn't even played half of a year yet. At age 24 Lewis has 239 PA, ARod had 3515 PA. It is never a good idea to make unfair comparisons. To my earlier points, other teams will bring up his name just as Arraez was the ask last offseason. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of trading Lewis and do not expect it to happen. However, guessing the future is always tough and trading an Emmanuel Rodriguez, someone who hasn't even had an at bat at AA yet, could also be a terrible idea. We may be surprised by who is traded in a transaction. Perhaps the Twins have their roster already.

This doesn't really work. You might think about the 3028 pitches thrown by Pablo Lopez in 2023. I would not make a comparison between pitches thrown and putouts by a first baseman, but you can maybe see why all teams hold the really good starting pitchers in such high regard. Every team needs pitching. Once upon a time the Cincinnati Reds needing a pitcher traded an "old 30" Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, who was a terrific 26 year old starting pitcher. Both guys had fantastic careers. Pitching can be very costly. The question is always what a team will pay.

Why not? I'm not suggesting Royce is the guy to go, but Harmony55 brought up a valid idea for discussion within a post that is focused on MLB for MLB players. In such a post, Lee, EmRod, and other milb guys are not on the table. I think all of the various ideas for putting together minor league prospects with Polanco have been worked to death. That is why the Harmony55 question was thrown out there.

FYI https://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/ You can see the contract terms more or less and who has what clauses. For example, Carlos Correa has a no trade clause. Also, teams are not required to have a left-handed starter.
