  1. Why would the Athletics trade a controllable starting pitcher for less than a haul that the Twins would never agree with as a workable deal?
  2. Everyone keeps asking what it takes to add a top starting pitcher. Kirby has four years of control, Gilbert three, and Skubel two. Give your best offer.
  3. I'm in the dark at to the value of Miranda for another team. The Twins will not trade Lopez, Ryan, and Ober under any conditions short of a total steal. Correa has a full 'no trade' and thus doesn't fit on this list. If a player cannot be traded or won't be traded, do they still have trade value? Jenkins, Rodriguez, Lee, Festa, and Lewis have trade value and could be traded in the right deal. Of course, it would have to be a big transaction. Think Skubel.
  4. You may be correct but then you also must realize that adding a good starting pitcher is not happening. What is the saying .... you have to give to get.
  5. Aaron Gleeman has a new list up at The Athletic. I'm not sure what SF would target, but I think they want more than we expect. The Giants are also not expected to be sellers. Finally, the financial risk associated with Snell may be beyond the limit for the Twins. Still, I like the idea of Snell pitching for the Twins. Would Charlee Soto and Andrew Morris get Snell? I'm still guessing that an added starting pitcher needs to come with years of control. A good relief pitcher as a rental makes sense. Also, what would it cost to add Randy Arozarena? He also butts up against the budget however.
  6. Santana really has exceeded expectations and credit should be given to him for his play and to Falvey for believing in Santana as a player. Margot has been fine, although it is possible that the Twins may have received similar work from Martin. Either way, the Twins did well in the trade with LAD because they received a useful layer for a small MLB contract and a decent prospect in Doncon. The Dodgers did well to reduce their payroll in order to sign the guy they wanted and received a brilliant shortstop to play in their minor leagues simple as a benefit to their young pitching prospects but not with any expectation of the player ever reaching their team. The heading is questionable. I'm not thinking that Falvey operated under tough circumstances in any way last offseason.
  7. This has been a constant refrain on Twins Daily and it is fair. My thought is always the same - who would you trade for and what is the proposed player(s) going the other way? For example, if you wanted Crochet from the White Sox, what is the bundle of players that would entice the CWS to agree? Count me as a person who has a fair amount of trust in Lopez, Ryan, and Ober to compete in the postseason. I'm more concerned with the bats and fielding. However, I am still a fan of adding an ace to the pitching staff. I just don't believe people would accept the cost. More importantly, the Twins are unlikely to pay the price.
  8. This is what happened, plain and simple. Now there has been a long silence since last offseason and perhaps the players can perform at a high enough level to bring back an increase in attendance and an interest in the club. As far as to whether Minnesota is a baseball state .... look at percentage of attendance of capacity for your answer or attend high school or college football, basketball, and baseball games. I don't follow the Vikings (since Joe Capp) and couldn't name their top five players without looking it up much less the defensive guys. How many people on this site would choose baseball if it meant they could never follow football, hockey, or basketball? It isn't really important or a big deal but St. Louis or Los Angeles are baseball towns and Minnesotans just have other priorities. While I (and others) will always follow baseball, it is not the first choice in this area. Such is life.
  9. I cannot disagree with anything in your comment. The thing I wonder is who is available and what is the cost? Along with cost .... can the Twins afford to pay in prospects/players what is needed to reel in a decent starting pitcher?
  10. Matthews has been a must see in his starting assignments. A promotion to AAA just turns up the level of attention. Folks will now be dissecting his every start. Talent plays and if Zebby can deliver consistently as he has coming up through the system the dream will be real.
  11. The Twins are not adding to payroll in a significant way this season or bringing in a guy who has future costs such as Gausman. The idea is a worthwhile exercise but one cannot ignore budgetary issues. The time for a blockbuster was last offseason (for 2024) and another chance will arrive after the World Series (for 2025).
  12. The Twins made some egregious public relations gaffes last offseason beginning immediately after the World Series. The ongoing media debacle is a negative as well. I do not believe that the payroll (@$130 million) limitations hurts the team. Falvey was given a decent budget and had a number of options to improve the team last offseason. He chose to keep some guys, sit on others, make a couple of trades, and sign the players he wanted to fill out what he saw as the needs for the organization. The Twins did not miss out on anyone because of a lack of money, unless you thought that Falvey was in on Juan Soto. The Twins have a pretty good club and have exceeded expectations to this point in the season. Falvey has struggled with deadline transactions but a decent relief pitcher seems like a possibility. The remainder of the season will play out in the hands of those players already in the organization. There is enough talent to overtake Cleveland. Injuries happen to every team but if management puts the right group together and trusts the call ups/ fill ins to do their job the Twins should be ok. Maybe Julien returns to the leadoff role he managed last year. Hopefully Correa, Buxton, Lewis, and Kepler lead the team's offense with steady pitching from Lopez, Ryan, and Ober. Target Field is right next to the North Loop neighborhood which has many fine restaurants and fairly decent parking. When I drag my seven decade old carcass to a game I enjoy the neighborhood and the atmosphere at the games. I wish crime didn't exist at all, but hey this is The Americas ... founded, steeped in, and still selling violence as a way of life. The first five games after the break may play with Falvey's head and push him to hold or make an attempt to add a rental. We should not expect any large financial surprises.
  13. Good athlete and has shown his skills in college. He has as good a shot as anyone. Now he gets professional pitchers and must learn when to swing and when to take.
  14. I am still a believer that Brooks Lee will be a good MLB player, but we saw some weaknesses in the last week. The Twins need to be able to use their entire roster of position athletes starting after the break. If someone is injured, call up a player from AAA or AA.
  15. Nice win by the Twins. Down a few guys we expect to always start but these things happen and the bench picked up the injured.
  16. Please leave all politics (anyone) off of this baseball site.
  17. The game is in Duran's hand now. The big man need show.
  18. Hopefully Miranda's back loosens up after a good sleep. Miranda sitting with a stiff back shortens up the bench.
  19. Keaschall takes good at bats and usually gets in at least one really wicked swing per plate appearance. I'm hoping that Emmanuel Rodriguez returns soon to hit behind Keaschall, which should be a strong duo together in the lineup.
  20. Names fly across the page, suggestions of adding this guy or that player. I like Tanner Scott. Watched Chafin a couple of times recently and he looked terrible because he constantly went to 3-2, traffic on the bases, very loud contact, and escaped through poor batting and sheer luck. Question is who Miami wants for Scott. Are they willing to send off Scott for Gabriel Gonzalez and Marco Raya? What is the cost? Tell me who goes the other way and pretend you are the opposing GM/PBO.
  21. I don't believe the Twins would consider trading Lewis. The idea was to show the cost of a really good starting pitcher (Tarik Skubel) and get people to write who goes the other way in the moves/additions that are being suggested. It isn't really fair to say we will trade a couple of AA players below our top prospects for a reliable starting pitcher. On a calmer note, Lewis as an MVP candidate for a season is an extremely long shot. I could see him getting hot in a playoff series. 138 games would have been a low barrier at one time but it is hard to see Royce Lewis reaching that for a few years. In parts of 3 seasons Lewis has appeared in 94 games and had 379 PA for an average of 31.3 games and 126 PA per year. We all hope Royce can play a full year or even 130 games but nobody is taking that bet at this time.
  22. Detroit has run into a bit of a wall in efforts to extend Skubel and they need top bats. The Tigers are not shopping Skubel but every player is available for a price (see Juan Soto). A number of sites have wondered what it would take, either to sign him to a long term deal (Detroit) or in a deal with another team. Just talk. I don't have any notion of why you mentioned names like Farmer, Santana, Vazquez, and Matthews. Where did you see mention of these players in trades? I have yet to see anything on any site mentioning these guys.
  23. Max once was what Tarik is at this time. I am not suggesting a trade of Lewis for Skubel as much as saying that the cost for a decent starting pitcher would be high. I have no idea what people suggest but I am just saying that Lewis for Skubel is a fair deal. When folks bring up a player they want to acquire it is reasonable to see what they think is fair in return.
