  1. Gibson was projected to go top 5 in that draft. There was concern of him needing Tommy John surgery which he did. That is why he fell in the draft. We were ecstatic to get him.
  2. wasnt hrbeck a top prospect? infact the 1980 - 1982 Twins minor league system was full of them.
  3. I remember him hitting a player then Deleon Young got hit in retaliation and went after Jose instead of the opposing pitcher
  4. in being fair, we drafted him at 16 years of age. Being that he made it to the show is beating all reasonable expectations. Though I would have liked to see more production. in terms of more AB, HRs, RBIs and fewer K's. but he can still be a 400 HR hitter with 1000-1200 RBI if he gets after it when all is said and done. I hope he has more years with the Twins after this one.
  5. Sano's bat took off last season after the league cracked down on pitchers. So, I think that solves his biggest problem at the plate. I suspect Sano will have a big year this year. He is primed to have a 40 HR 100 RBI season.
  6. I consider not starting the season on time a big FU to the fans. So, I will give them and FU back. I will not spend money in anyway shape or form for at least a season maybe more. (only exception is a Twins World Series Appearance)
  7. They Twins have another option for 2B, SS, 3B. I doubt he was signed to play SS. He could get some games there. It does seem the Twins budget has been cut. We will find out of no other IF get signed. But like this article states he us likely to split time at 2b and 3rd and compete with Gordon for time. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/02/twins-sign-former-top-pick-tim-beckham-to-minors-deal.html
  8. With Bundy a low cost pick up and if the Twins go out and get another low cost pickup like Odorizzi or Pineda or both (sorry can't think of other pitchers off the top of my head) and say we are all good on pitchers then we easily have money for an Story book finish to the offseason.
  9. If the Twins trade for an Odorizzi and then for a Bassit type of pitcher then we would have room in the budget for Story at SS.
  10. As long as their paycheck clears the bank, the Twins are not failing anyone. Especially someone getting paid 92 to. 100 million.
  11. What if David West worked out? Headlining LHP in Frank Viola trade. I will also go with the closers Burdi and Chargois Matt LeCroy if he made it would we be as upset about losing Ortiz? Nishioka. If he made it would we be more successful in landing Japanese players?
  12. I like your idea better. I just think writers suck and have no business deciding anything. That is not their lot in life. They report on what others do....
  13. I think for Torrii ti be a borderline HOF he wouldnneed to have more counting stats. He needed around 800-1000 more AB to be able to hit them. 200-300 hits 40-50 HRs. And 150 RBI. He gets those numbers added to his career totals he probably gets in.
  14. found it..... I scrolled up earlier and i guess i missed it.
  15. This was a fun article. THere should be a way to like articles or emoji them like we can with comments.
  16. It is read a s a hard floor. I was just throwing out this idea and starting a discussion. There is nothing wrong with trading for bad contracts. I was just pointing out that they will be more common with a floor. My issue is with tanking. Even if you are only a 70 win team you should still try to win 72 games. Every win should matter for a team even a losing one. It tells how close you truly are to the top.
  17. The Twins just need to shake up their talent acquisition methods a little. They struck early in the offseason a few years back and that was the last time they did that. They do not do many trades in the offseason. Though deadline deals usually get done. Usually, selling instead of adding ..... Dumpster Diving can only go so far. Getting Donladson and Cruz and reasonable rates are not always going to be the norm. If all we do is dumpster dive then others will start following our lead as we do the same predictable thing over and over again. Though I wonder if we will get lucky with Story and get him on a shorter-term contract. but anyways I think this offseason we will resign Pineda and trade for a starter and I hope we sign a SS or middle IF especially one who can hit since our pitching is more likely to be downgraded from last year to some extent.
  18. I think the Fans should vote on the hall of fame. the writers are pretentious and do not fairly or equitably represent us.
  19. I was just thinking there should be a similar penalty for not spending the money if they get it. Plus I hate tanking teams. I guess teams will still tank but will do so by trading for bad contracts and prospects. by getting more prospects that usually shortens the tanking time.
  20. I am ok with 2 spots going to the prospects and 1 more for Bundy/ Dobnak unless or until they fail and a new prospect emerges. but we need 2 competent starters to be there for the kids and provide leadership, innings and veteraness goodness.
  21. The evidence is that he was traded. or the front office didn't think he was worth the price of an extension. either way he was traded.
  22. I didn't say the Twins couldn't afford an extension. I also didn't discount the fact that Pressley is a 2-time all-star either. but I am judging the trade for what it is. at the time it was 1 1/3 year of Pressley for Alcala and Celstino. If you think judging additional contracts and transactions to judge the one before it, Go ahead. The rest of us know how to judge a transaction based off of the transaction. and that what happens after it is a separate transaction.
  23. Zack Littell did have a good season before he had a bad one. I thought it was strange he wasn't brought back for at least 1 more go around.
  24. I was just thinking about the Competitive Balance Tax in Baseball and the negotiations going on and was thinking about the concept that was proposed of a 100 million floor. for a lot of small market teams that would be too high of a floor as it makes sense to dip down when doing a rebuild. but the thought that crossed my mind is.... why does it have to be a solid floor? I mean with the competitive balance tax on the top end of teams payrolls they have an escalating penalty each year they are above a limit. Shouldn't that work if teams drop below a certain limit as well? I think a better current floor would be between 70 million and 80 million. Drop below it once and receive a slap on the wrist 10% drop in revenue sharing revenue. Do it 2 years in a row make it 40% drop in revenue sharing received and a competitive balance draft pick or have that pick drop a round. do it 3 years in a row loos all revenue sharing designed to boost small market teams and lose all additional competitive draft picks designed to help low revenue teams. I am sure the exact amounts can be negotiated. But I would support a floor built the same way a ceiling has been installed so a team can't be brought down to the studs and receive lots of money.... This would also make tanking more interesting because how would you do it? trading for bad contracts and prospects which teams would probably do. This would help tanking teams get more prospects and get out of the cellar faster. This would be a new wrinkle in the game and a benefit for the players. Weigh in and tell us what you think about a wobbly floor?
