  1. I think it’s likely. Challenge the White Sox for the cellar.
  2. Thank you for starting a corner for the card collectors. Good to see that the market is staying strong. 💪

    “Buy” the Team!

I’ll make a proposal that we do indeed start a GoFundMe to “buy” the team. No, our little group of middle-class folks could never be able to raise the requisite $1.4-$1.7 billion. And we’d likely be just as miserable and incompetent as the Pohlad heirs. And yet, we could aim towards $100,000 and beyond to say we are truly tired of this ownership and want to be partners in a new era. We could designate the money for the Twins Community Fund, accessible once the new owners take charge of the club. Sure, go out and build more ball fields and have more clinics with our money. We could demonstrate that we are serious about professional baseball in Minnesota, pledging money to “a good cause” as a way to catalyze the sale. We could set aside the useless “sell the team” chants and move to a productive “buy the team” to one another. I have $100 to get the purchase underway.
  4. The Twins will turn it around and win the division at 85-77! 😊
  5. Yeah, sounds reasonable to me. But since it’s Stubborn Rocco, likely Vazquez at C, Miranda at 3B and Castro at 2B. whatever wins.
  6. Last year, the Twins gave plate appearances to 21 players and brought 31 pitchers (and 3 position players) to the mound. So, most of these guys will be up and about at some point in the season!
  7. That’s “Twins All-Star” Ron Coomer. Made the team as the token Twin in one of our leaner years…
  8. Viva la Tortuga! 🐢 Bring back Willians Astudillo as backup C and utility man. Clear salaries of Vasquez and Castro. $16 million saved! 😜
  9. How does Castro compare to Polanco? Twins received a great deal when Jorge signed his extension. Solid production and leadership, then trade value later. Willi has cooled off since the break, but stayed healthy. Still on pace for all 162 games? Just do it.
  10. Wow. One week at .347 sure made a difference. Blessed by a happy string of games!
  11. The note in the MLB Power Rankings for the Twins included mention of the 1884 St Paul White Caps, a team that hit below .200 for a season. Further research showed that “White Caps”, “Saints” and “Apostles” were all used for the St Paul franchise. Some standardization to “Saints” came in 1915. But, hey.. who doesn’t want to be a baseball sicko and refer to the Saints as the Apostles or even the White Caps? (Every 140 years, our area gets blessed with a sub .200 batting average team!) https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/St._Paul_Apostles
  12. I find the news from last night’s Dodger game to be quite disturbing. A lifelong fan of the team is fortunate enough to retrieve Ohtani’s “first HR ball at Dodger Stadium”. Immediately, the goon squad goes in with pressure tactics, isolation and a low-ball offer. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10115666-dodgers-fan-who-caught-shohei-ohtani-hr-says-team-pressured-her-to-give-up-ball.amp.html I called one of the season ticket dealers in the Twins front office and shared my concern (to his voicemail). Such a shambles. Billionaires, millionaires and the naive fans. Guess who gets squashed, squeezed and slammed.
  13. I’d think a decently-tipped bartender would be able to help you on your expedition to either document baseball history or find some ballplayers out on the town. Naz Reid.
  14. Three playoff victories in the books. A ballplayer worth every penny of his contract!
  15. Always important to keep the ventilation system in good order… 😛
  16. Yeah, if you count Twins’ minor leaguers… E-S could have the MLB record via the Reds..
  17. The Twins made the right call to have Lopez lead the way in the postseason over Gray. Such a bummer to have Sonny lay an egg in Game 3 of the ALDS! I’m also not worried that letting Sonny go will hurt us that much in the end. We do need Ober or Ryan to take a step up to a solid #2, while the other starter (or someone from our #4-#8 group) needs to make the #3 spot stick. Should the bullpen, hitting, fielding and baserunning come together over a full season (or just peak in September, for goodness sake), we’ll be in the playoff business once more! (With 4/8 of the best starters in the Central, how did we make it so hard on ourselves in 2023?)
  18. Well, Keith Law was rather negative on Paddack. His call was Jordan Balazovic as one of our starters! Always good to throw as many predictions on the wall as you can in the winter, so that at the end of the year, you can tell everyone else: “I called it!”
  19. Does SWR hold the record for longest name on a Twins jersey? I count Mientkiewicz at 12 and Woods-Richardson at 16 (or 15 letters). Any others in the ballpark? :) ”The Minnesota Twins - Get to Know ‘Em”
  20. Rather strange that the Twins seemed to have agreed to his request to not play CF. So it goes. We’ll find out in April if the boys are ready to play some baseball, or if an upstart like the Tigers will put it all together!
  21. I had been thinking that Polanco-to-the-Mariners for pitching was a likely outcome. Good to hear that they had been tracking him for several years and were willing to deal a nice package of players plus cash. I’m optimistic that this trade will work out very well for us over the next 3-5 years. It’s still essential that we acquire a high-quality starter at some point in 2024!
  22. Some of the new wine turns out well, some of it will turn to vinegar. So it goes.
  23. Just wait until the Twins do the inevitable sell-out of an advertising patch on the shoulder of every uniform. A whole ‘nother round of upsells on whether ‘tis nobler to have the patch or not. Drive that market! Likely Target or 3M - too bad we can’t have Chico’s Bail Bonds.
  24. Yep. The move for 2024 needs to be some combination of Lee, Julien, Kirilloff, Wallner, Larnach, Rodriguez, Polanco and/or Kepler to Miami (Luzardo), Seattle )Kirby), Milwaukee (Burnes), Toronto (Manaoh) or Chicago (Cease). Perhaps it would take 1-2 of those plus 1-2 pitching prospects. Maybe Kim Ng really was too far “outside the box” to trade an established, high-end starter (plus prospects!) for a super-premium hitting talent (with limits and flaws). The Pablo deal may have been a unicorn of its own making Regardless, it seems like GM’s track all these players over several years (duh) and eventually get their “man-crushes” and “bro-mances” going… and the deals are indeed consummated
