  1. I wonder if the White Sox might tender Hayes a contract. He appears to have put on a couple of pounds over the winter, ala Lance Lynn, and fumbles a routine popup. Might just fly!
  2. My only gripe is that the pitcher's stats are smaller than they used to be but it is very difficult to read from way atop 319 section. I need more time to study the board/electronics throughout the stadium to get my bearings anchored in. I couldn't in one game.
  3. Game speed. On Wed, all 3 of us at the game commented on how quickly the game moved along. One said, "I won't even have time to use restroom now that Altuve and others adjust their batting gloves 3 times between each pitch."
  4. Had Giants/Dodgers game on audio last night. Taylor Rogers came in relief for the 6th inn. Walked 3 batters to load the bases. Freeman (4th batter) took him to a 15-pitch at bat before walking him, with a run scoring 4th walk in a row. His ERA ballooned to over 18 with a WHIP of 3.0. Taylor's response. He tossed his mitt into the trash can in the dugout and punched some warmup jackets a couple of times. https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2023/04/13/giants-taylor-rogers-trashes-glove-vs-dodgers
  5. In week 2 of '23 schedule: Correa Gallo Kepler Polanco Winder Buxton (seemingly confined to DH role)
  6. Twins hired Paparesta Oct 27, giving his predecessor his walking papers. Seems like sufficient time to get each player a training plan for over-wintering and coming in to ST in shape. Doesn't seem to have been very effective. Do these guys work out over winter? Are Twins/other MLB clubs just being cautious with their investment? I don't ever recall such a vast amount of injuries in all my years of watching MLB.
  7. I saw him play 3 of the 4 games for Canada in the WBC/Phoenix, where he mashed .538 BA. Small sample but hopefully indicative of his bat.
  8. LaRussa was added to WSox roster, as utility IF. Probably 2B. His range at SS has diminished. https://tenor.com/view/larussa-running-chicago-white-sox-gif-22528488
  9. I will be there, high atop section 320, looking down from the crow's nest at batter's box. Very good seats for $12 w/vets' tix. Vets: 1/2 price, M-Th games.
  10. Twins have 27 games scheduled in next 28 days. Breathe 'em while you can.
  11. I am hypercritical of Baldelli for his early hooks. But this early in the pitching year? 80+ is sufficient, particularly if Baldelli is conferring with his catcher and pitcher. Note: I said, "IF."
  12. Vazquez worked over that Astro lineup, his former teammates.
  13. The irony is that his scorecard reads 73.
  14. The old MLB trick of counting tix sold, not butts in the seats.
  15. 10,000 fans. I lived in South Florida. It is baseball country. Huge Latin following yet this franchise can't figure out how to draw. What a way to mess up a viable market.
  16. Started 30 Mar. He signed w/Fukuoka SoftBanks Hawks, $1.35MM. Went 0-3 in first game.
  17. Jake is starting in RF for the Phils this afternoon (on Fox broadcast). I remember the first time I saw him. Sprinted to his position and off-the-field as well. Last game I saw him? Sprinted both ways still. Effort counts when talent is suspect. Reminds me of what my basketball coach whispered to me more than once.
  18. I would still argue that Donaldson had no leadership qualities whatsoever despite the vague references you cite. His behaviors, his actions, his interviews, his performance suggest he was nothing but a prima donna, masquerading as a self-appointed leader. With respect, don't force fit a non-leader into leadership category. We have all seen them at our worksites. Needn't do that w/JD.
  19. Pulled by Spenser Pence, not Posey. Just for the archives as I tune into the Mets'Marlins audio,
  20. Those fans weren't in the clubhouse nor was I. From the moment I saw his first interview, I said, "OMG, what a clown. Why him for $+20MM?"
  21. Miranda at 3B still scares me (.950 career wise if memory serves me).. My guess is that he moves to DH when Buxton is ready to go in CF. Farmer moves to 3B. Lots of flexibility with this roster.
  22. It is well written, with excellent application. Teams are teams whether they are playing ball, delivering healthcare, or brainstorming business plans. Well done. In part III, I would like to see some discussion of formal leaders (Joe Maddon, Tito Francona, Craig Counsell and the like) and their gifts which make them unique.
  23. Trevor Hildenberger. Now 32, he was on last roster cut from Giants. Active in unionizing MiLB (owners accepted union without a necessary vote!), now on the Sacramento River Cats roster. https://www.thenation.com/article/society/minor-league-baseball-union-bill-fletcher/ Plouffie is a co-host on podcasts Talkin' Live and Baseball Today. Randy Rosario went to Cubs/Iowa/KC/Japan and now plays for the Saraperos de Saltillo in the Mexican League.
