  1. Sorry, can't agree that it was "the right trade." Giving up prospects out of a desperate need for an arm is never going to work. You have no leverage. You end up with that guy with a previously reported injured arm. Falvey came over as "a guy who knows pitching." His failure has been in the drafting/development (or lack thereof) of arms within the system. A good development system within the minors is the "right trade" that hadn't been done in Falvey's six years that left the Twins in such a ominous predicament.
  2. though I share your opinion, Bro' Baldelli doesn't. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/padres-vs-twins/2023/05/10/718224/preview
  3. 1-2. Going to Thurs game to watch Ober beat Darvish. I listen to some Padres games late at night. I love to see a roster with a commitment of $1.2 billion (after '24 season) scuffling in 3rd place. Same goes for: Mets can't get traction either, playing .500 ball. And the Yanks in the basement of toughest division in baseball.
  4. The image which immediately popped into my head was hands on the tossed bat, topping one another to the knob to determine who got first pick of our motley, non-uniformed assembled group. "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..." Where did they go?
  5. I claim no prowess in pitching, but the few times I have seen him, he relies strictly on upper body/arm for strength. No lower body put into the throw. Wouldn't he be better served in technique by incorporating those big thighs and long legs into his delivery?
  6. Sergio Romo is scheduled in the Giants radio booth in Mexico Series against the Padres, KNBR. Expect just one of those "during inning" interviews. 11 HRs in yesterday's game. Lamont Wade, SF, (.245) homered off Darvish as the first batter of the game. Nelson Cruz, SD, (.317) tripled to deep center in the 2nd.
  7. Pederson? Not sure I want to add him to a seemingly balanced clubhouse. Has always struck me as a bit of a clown and a large ego. Would his personality help or hinder? Unsure.
  8. I can't wait for the draft!! Number 40 on your charts is from my alma mater! Go Owls!
  9. I have experienced the same delays. I listen with GameDay up on one tab and the broadcast on another. The delay is always at least one batter behind. Ads are so loud I silence them as they are much, much too loud. And betting ads? Enough already. MLB is not taking the long view on taking money from gambling ad revenue. This is going to end up biting MLB right in the butt. Short term gain for inevitable long term scandal. That is pure non-sense. The technology is there. Fix it. Good grief. Thanks for the timely article, A radio baseball listener for 70+ years.
  10. Rooker took Ohtani deep in the A's game today. 7 HRs in 18 games; 18 RBIs. .300/ .481 /.800 Go A's.
  11. Quirky? Bumfluff pulls the lineup out of the ballboy's cap and uses more cliches than I have arthritic pains.
  12. Buxton is a DH who might play some CF on occasion w/a bad knee. Having been scoped 3 times and ultimately a knee replacement, I would suggest once the knife goes in, a 2nd procedure isn't far behind. Works about 15% of the time. https://www.bmj.com/content/357/bmj.j1982
  13. "Who else has the temperament and speed to steal a lot of bases? As you mentioned, Taylor? Maybe. Keps or Gordon? Less likely..." Twins, .228 BA, 1 steal Guardians, .231 BA, 26 steals Petriello said on his podcast, 11 Twins are below avg in speed in comparison to all MLB players. 2 are above avg. Mudders, I guess. https://www.mlb.com/news/fastest-mlb-teams-in-2023 I don't think Francona is much interested in an individual's temperament about stealing.
  14. "the Twins announced they were optioning struggling reliever Emilio Pagán to Elon Musk..." Believe me, I really, really dislike Musk. But I wouldn't even wish Pagan on HIM!
  15. Oakland A’s pitcher Trevor May (former Twins reliever) to the IL w/anxiety. A's GM David Forst:
  16. We'll see if Tucson Toros get resurrected in the PCL.
  17. I wonder if the White Sox might tender Hayes a contract. He appears to have put on a couple of pounds over the winter, ala Lance Lynn, and fumbles a routine popup. Might just fly!
  18. My only gripe is that the pitcher's stats are smaller than they used to be but it is very difficult to read from way atop 319 section. I need more time to study the board/electronics throughout the stadium to get my bearings anchored in. I couldn't in one game.
  19. Game speed. On Wed, all 3 of us at the game commented on how quickly the game moved along. One said, "I won't even have time to use restroom now that Altuve and others adjust their batting gloves 3 times between each pitch."
  20. Had Giants/Dodgers game on audio last night. Taylor Rogers came in relief for the 6th inn. Walked 3 batters to load the bases. Freeman (4th batter) took him to a 15-pitch at bat before walking him, with a run scoring 4th walk in a row. His ERA ballooned to over 18 with a WHIP of 3.0. Taylor's response. He tossed his mitt into the trash can in the dugout and punched some warmup jackets a couple of times. https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2023/04/13/giants-taylor-rogers-trashes-glove-vs-dodgers
  21. In week 2 of '23 schedule: Correa Gallo Kepler Polanco Winder Buxton (seemingly confined to DH role)
  22. Twins hired Paparesta Oct 27, giving his predecessor his walking papers. Seems like sufficient time to get each player a training plan for over-wintering and coming in to ST in shape. Doesn't seem to have been very effective. Do these guys work out over winter? Are Twins/other MLB clubs just being cautious with their investment? I don't ever recall such a vast amount of injuries in all my years of watching MLB.
  23. I saw him play 3 of the 4 games for Canada in the WBC/Phoenix, where he mashed .538 BA. Small sample but hopefully indicative of his bat.
