    This is my thinking as well. Ryu might be as good as Madbum in 2020, but both will require a multiyear deal. I'd rather have Madbum for 5 years than Ryu for 3. Ryu has been the opposite of durable and reliable. Kuechel would be a great signing if we also improved the infield defense.

    I personally think I would do that trade at this point. However, that's a steep price because Balazovic is our #2 pitching prospect, Buxton's ceiling is legitimately HOF, and Trevor Larnach is almost mlb ready and raked last year. We'd be counting on Kiriloff to take Kepler's spot in RF asap.

    The fact that Ryu has pitched 180 innings (and never hit 200 innings) only twice in the last seven years is pretty dang concerning. Same with Pineda. At least with Madbum you know you're going to get 30 starts from him. I would disagree; I'd much rather have Madbum than either of those two over a 3-4 year deal.

    Again, maybe switch Rosario with Buxton and maybe the Mets will pick up the phone. Buxton and Balazovic and Trevor Larnach would be close. But that would hurt.

    I'd much rather have Moose in the clubhouse than Donaldson. Not sure he fits with Rocco's vibe here. Donaldson is kind of a jerk to everyone and is reported to be over the top intense. Rocco does not motivate his players that way.

    Everyone agrees on Jeter. He will get in. He benefits from the NY Yankee prestige. Larry Walker should absolutely be in. His numbers are eye popping even if you look at his splits away from Coors, and he was an elite defensive outfielder. He stole bases. Playing in small markets is seeming to hurt him. He was an elite five tool player. Helton's numbers are there, but the Coors effect is stronger, and he was a first baseman, which requires more on the offensive side to get in. Not a five tool player. You could make the argument for or against. Bonds and Clemens- heck no. If Pete Rose doesn't get in, they shouldn't either.

    I'd bring him back rather than platoon existing guys there (Marwin, Ehire, Astudillo). Astudillo should not be in the lineup regularly and Marwin's ops is okay for your utility guy but not a regular Ib. If we anticipate signing either a 3b or different 1b, then let him go, otherwise I'd rather have Cron starting opening day than Kiriloff, Rooker, etc. Rookies usually have growing pains. Most aren't like Juan Soto or Luis Arraez.

    You don't know that. That is what Pineda's camp asserted. We just know that his suspension was reduced. So was Ryan Braun's.

    It's an effective masking agent, thus why it's banned. Surely you aren't naive enough to think he was only taking the diuretic.

    I would do Rosario + Gordon + Blankenhorn for one year of TB in a heartbeat.

    Idk, Altuve swings at a lot of pitches outside the zone. Of course, he also has won an MVP and batting champs, OPS'ed over .900 this year, and plays second base, not a corner outfield spot. But his approach can be frustrating at times.

    Smeltzer was the only effective pitcher in an entire game against the Yankees not that long ago. Perez and Thorpe have both been awful. I like the pitching selections a lot. My only slight surprise is that Arraez and Ehire are healthy enough to go in this series, which effectively bumps Astudillo off the roster. You probably need a backup shortstop for Polanco and Rocco hasn't been comfortable putting Marwin there, so that was probably a factor.

    I think my MVP actually goes to Cruz, slightly over Kepler just because of Kepler's recent injury. "Player we would have least liked to lose for the full season" would be Taylor Rogers. Remember how bad our bullpen was before the all star break? He was the only consistent guy in the pen.

    Ha! True, but Hader really did struggle with control last night. The Zimmermann hit was super cheap though.

    If I've learned anything from watching baseball for 28 years, it's that baseball is weird and unpredictable. Exhibit A would be last night. HOF pitcher gives up three runs early. Brewers best reliever gives up three runs in one inning and the Nationals win. I could foresee a scenario where Berrios is dominant or where Berrios gives up 4 runs and goes 5 innings. Heck, I could say the same thing about Dobnak and Odorizzi. I could see us scoring 10 runs in game one and I could envision us scoring 2. Anything can happen in a 5 game series.

    That's a great stat to point out. Some team will want Buxton to play corner OF and OPS .800. But we're comparing Buck and Sano here. Rosie's ops is much lower than Sano's. 800 ops from a centerfielder is fantastic, especially from one as good defensively as Buxton. 800 ops from a corner outfielder is good, not great. Sano has been great this year.

    Buxton's ceiling is absolutely higher, however unless his bat improves tremendously it won't play at the corner outfield positions in his later years. Sano could be a productive DH/1b OPS'ing over .900 for many more years than Buck might be in the league. No idea who ends up having the better Twins career. If I had to guess, I'd guess neither will have long Twins careers. Completely unrelated, but speaking of long careers, Trout could end up in the top ten in career WAR.

    I wouldn't be upset. Maybe a little surprised, but if that last spot is down to Gibby, Perez, and Thorpe, then I'd get the rationale. I think I'd personally take Perez over Thorpe, but not sure between Gibby and Thorpe. Gibby has pitched really well in Yankee stadium before. He has strikeout stuff. If they determine he can give us an inning or two, I like his chances over Thorpe's.

    Gibson is the longest tenured Minnesota Twin, and I love the guy. He's a terrific person, teammate, and great with the media, and he has perspective that most 31 year olds don't possess. I'll be rooting for him in the future, whether that means signing with the Twins, somewhere else, or retiring from baseball to focus on things that are more important than baseball. Regarding his pace, he works faster than Pineda and I don't hear anyone stating we shouldn't resign Pineda because he is painful to watch. I'd rather watch Gibby strike out guys slowly than watch Perez, when I turn my head and blink the other team has scored six runs.

    There is a correlation to max pitch speed and average pitch speed and tommy john surgeries/innings pitched. Basically, the higher the delta between a pitcher's avg fastball and his fastest fastball, the healthier that pitcher is likely to be. The best example is Verlander, who can throw 101 but seldom does and has not had TJ.
