  1. I'm close to 100% sure Cruz will still hit at a high level for the next two years. I'm about 50% sure he can actually stay healthy and play 80% of games for the next two years. He would be a very expensive coach at that point. I see why the Twins are smart to wait. But go ahead and get some other help in the meantime, which I think the Twins will do. Get one more starter and 2-3 bullpen guys.
  2. Bauer has stated he wants to pitch every fourth day.
  3. I love Jose, but this isn't even a close comparison. Bauer has deservedly won one Cy young and finished 6th another year. Berrios has never received Cy Young votes. Bauer was very good in 2017 and 2018; he's not a two month wonder. Berrios is a solid #2 or very good #3 rotation option. Bauer is an ace. Both are very durable and pitch lots of innings.
  4. The mets have been a dysfunctional franchise for most of my fandom years. Does a new owner change all of that? I don't see the Mets as a WS contender in 2021. If I were Bauer I would not go there but NYC is a great opportunity to promote his brand.
  5. Good to know. That's a lot to give up for one season of Lance Lynn.
  6. Twins won. Smeltzer has already given the big league club more value than half a season of Dozier, who has been downright bad ever since he left the Twins. I really liked Doz, but the Twins were smart to trade him and get something of value.
  7. If the Twins use someone already in the organization for the utility/Marwin role, it will be Travis Blankenhorn or Nick Gordon, not Royce Lewis. Gordon can play SS. Lewis has played what, 40 games above A ball? Not mlb ready.
  8. Easy. Tony Oliva. Well, Mauer would be in that discussion as well but I think he'll get in.
  9. I'd go with no, yes, and ....yes?
  10. Story is an absolute 2 way star, but do you really want to give up Berrios, Arraez or Kiriloff to get one year of Trevor Story (at 14 million)? He's a FA after 2021.
  11. I don't know, I was pretty pumped when the Twins signed him but I thought he had his calf issues figured out. When he played, he was as good as expected. I fully expect him to be the leader of this team when Cruz is gone.
  12. Bauer will be way more than 30 million unless we're signing him to a 6 year/180 million dollar deal, which I highly doubt he would accept. Would you offer him 1 year at 43 million?
  13. Bauer is certainly going to require more than 30-35 mil if he takes a one year deal. There are probably ten teams that will offer him more than that. 43 mil for a one year deal seems about right. You want the Twins to offer that?
  14. Donaldson's contract definitely has negative value at this point.
  15. I appreciated Jake's comments after the game, but also got the underlying messages that he is sorry for the fans, sorry that he could not help this year, and sorry to see the organization fail again. This was the most excited I've ever been for a mlb season. I went to five ST games. Spent way too much time on Twinsdaily and the athletic. Now I'm realizing I should probably not be so attached to this team.
  16. Buxton is OPS'ing over 1.000 in September. He needs to be at the top of the lineup, period. Polanco looks to be playing hurt. He's been a below average hitter this year after receiving MVP votes last year, something's not right. Maybe he really has been hurt by no video in the dugout.
  17. Harsh. He was the second best hitter on the team, behind Cruz. And the best defensive infielder on the team. Not really fair to ding him for the injuries when so many other guys were injured in this weird season. I'd grade the Odo signing at least as bad by your criteria. When he pitched, he wasn't good. At least when Donaldson played he was effective.
  18. Huh. Definitely surprising. Sano has a nagging injury, so maybe he plays some at first. Otherwise, an upgrade over anyone on the bench to pinch hit.
  19. 2nd paragraph should be "dominant" instead of dominate.
  20. Remember when we beat Bieber and Plesac just a short time ago?
  21. Ryu has been very good. Maeda has more innings, more K's, a lower whip and ERA, but Ryu has a higher war (probably bc of facing better division); Ryu is 4-1 with a 3.0 ERA. They're about the same age. Of course, Maeda is much, much cheaper and doesn't have an injury history like Ryu.
  22. The Yankees also did nothing. This was definitely a different trade deadline, with only a couple teams making significant moves. It's 2020. This year is different.
  23. Blankenship? Are you a running fan? Ben Blankenship is a former gopher, sub 4 miler and pro 1500 meter runner. I can infer you mean Travis Blankenhorn.
  24. How are the Angels so incredibly awful with Rendon and Trout and LaStella all hitting? Cruz is out of HOF discussion because of the PED positive anyway, but does a theoretical triple crown this year +an mvp and a productive year next year vault him into fringe category? He doesn't have 500 hr's or 2000 hits but both are possible.
  25. I was thinking this as well. There will be some teams, like the Rangers, Giants, Phillies, where if I was the GM I'm trying to play for future full seasons where there's no doubt the playoffs will actually finish. Why buy for this year when there's a chance half your team could get COVID 19? I'd sell if I can, even if I think we might be in the expanded playoffs. Unless you think your team is a definitive world series contender this year, sell. There is so much uncertainty.
