  1. Start Rooker in left. Best bat. He will hit.
  2. Color me surprised to hear that Arraez is not expected to play corner OF. I also wouldn't be surprised if Baldelli and the FO put the best team out there which involves Kiriloff starting the season in St. Paul. Rooker could easily out-hit Kiriloff this year. He set the world on fire in a small sample size last year and has hit at every milb level.
  3. Fielding percentage is pretty worthless too. More worthless than rbi's. Wins are meaningful for lots of HOF voters still, unfortunately.
  4. I love Dozier as much as anybody but I think the bar should be set a little higher than that. He was a one time all star, won one gold glove and had 3 seasons with the team where he was an above average hitter. 22.9 career war with the Twins puts his resume right there with Corey Koskie, also a good player but not a Twins HOF'er.
  5. Ryu is definitely better than any of the Twins starters. That's why he was an expensive FA signing. His career ERA is under 3.
  6. Remember Joe Nathan and Johan Santana? The playoff problems can't be simplified into lack of an ace and no lights out closer. Pitching was good last year. Maeda and Berrios were both great in the playoff series. Maeda finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting.
  7. Nick Gordon and Travis Blankenhorn
  8. I think you're right on another utility INF. But I bet if there is a long term injury to Polanco, Donaldson, Simmons, or Arraez, we see Blankenhorn or even Nick Gordon get called up and play every day.
  9. Probably the salary. Marwin was drastically overpaid.
  10. Agreed. And Betts probably should have won the MVP last year, so that has worked out well so far.
  11. David Ortiz was worth 5.2 WAR as a DH in his age 40 season. Also a HOF player. At least I think he will get in- he does have the PED asterisk though.
  12. Why is David Ortiz not on this list? 5.2 WAR as a DH in his age 40 season. It was arguably his best, with an OPS over 1.000 and 127 RBI's, which led the league. He finished 3rd in MVP voting.
  13. I agree with your subjective eye test except Rivas was probably better that year than Polanco will be at second, and Donaldson has historically been better than Koskie at third. Next year, I'd expect Donaldson to slow down some though. 3B is close. 1B is not close. Dougie was really good there.
  14. Voting is and always has been weird. Killer's first year there was Bob Gibson, then in his second year, Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson. His third year had Brooks Robinson. But Killebrew was arguably the most feared hitter of his era and should have been first ballot.
  15. Polanco is way more athletic and much faster than Arraez. This is why everyone is saying he will be better defensively at 2nd than Arraez.
  16. You can't actually think Schilling's numbers aren't good enough to get him in. He has 3100 something strikeouts. Every pitcher with more is in the hall, except Roger Clemens. He has 80 WAR, almost twice as much as Jack Morris. He is arguably the greatest postseason pitcher in modern baseball history. He has 3 world series rings. If he doesn't get in, he would be easily the best pitcher not named Roger Clemens to be left out of the hall of fame. Arguments against? Well, he never won a cy young, but he had three second place finishes and would have won two if his teammate wasn't Randy Johnson, who won two. Dozens of HOF pitchers don't have a cy young and many never finished top 2 or top 3. I suppose you could argue his ERA is relatively high. But his park adjusted ERA+ is 127, which is the same as Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson. He pitched in Fenway during the steroid era. He's not in because of character issues, period.
  17. If you look at when guys get in, the usual is 1st ballot, like Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Ken Griffey Jr. If you're not first ballot, then you get in the second year. Like Guerrero or Carlton Fisk. If you're not second, you get in the third year, or you have to wait until your final year of eligibility. I agree we could reduce the # of years guys are on the ballot, but only if you can vote for more than 10 players. Often there is a logjam and a deserving player has to wait for other more deserving players to get in until there's a lean year, then he gets in (Larry Walker). There was no Larry Walker on this years' ballot. I wouldn't have voted for Vizquel because he's a poor hitter, only has 45 WAR despite playing forever, and isn't in the same defensive realm as Ozzie Smith or Andrelton Simmons.
  18. Agreed. My stance on PED users has changed over time. Initially I wouldn't have voted for any of them, suspected or not. Since Bud Selig is in there now, and Piazza, and Pudge, and everybody is going to vote for Ortiz, why not put Sosa in? Sosa's PED suspicion is the exact same as Big Papi. The league wasn't enforcing it at all. There was no testing. We don't even know what Sosa tested positive for. As for Schilling, I hate both the press he is getting, because it's not about his accomplishments on the baseball field, and the fact that he's an obvious HOF'er and won't be voted in by the writers because they don't like him personally. I don't like him personally either, but I would vote for him because he's a huge part of baseball in the 2000's, especially the postseason.
  19. Compared to what Marcus Semien got, this signing is a steal.
  20. Moose could replace Arraez's offense at 2b. Completely different type of hitter but he would fit in with Twins clubhouse. Both are average at best defensively. Don't need Castellanos with our abundance of corner outfielders and first basemen. Arraez for Moustakas and Gray would easily get the job done if the Twins are concerned about Arraez's knees long term. I'd do that. Makes the team better in 2021 and 2022.
  21. Semien really only had that one good year, in 2019. The other years were all consistently average. However, 2019 was a legitimate MVP year from him, something the Twins have not had since 2009 Mauer. Not sure I'm a believer in Semien or not. Depends what the cost is, but he might be a nice low risk high potential reward signing.
  22. Story is an absolute stud, but I wouldn't give up a lot for a 1 year rental. The home/road splits for Colorado players are more stark than other ballparks because it's dang hard to adjust for seeing balls at elevation vs sea level. Sliders break different at sea level than they do at 5300ft. Plus, sleeping and recovery are difficult when you're constantly going from elevation back down to sea level and back to elevation. If you're high level athlete playing and performing every day, recovery matters a ton. Ask Arenado or Blackmon. It's not so much the field dimensions or the ball carrying further in the air as it is all the other stuff.
  23. I'm so ticked about the TV deals, as a former dish network and former youtube tv subscriber. I would gladly pay mlb 15/month just to watch the Twins, but of course I can't. (without using a vpn workaround) I also can't see highlights trending on twitter, IG or facebook. It's like MLB is trying to keep baseball from being popular with millennials and gen z.
  24. You don't own a sports franchise as the best or wisest way to make money. You own a sports franchise because you want to own a sports franchise. Sure, making money could and should be a secondary concern, but like you said, there are better ways to securely make more money. That said, if you want to own a sports franchise, I don't understand when owners don't have fun with it. Don't be a cheapskate and make it all about making money. It does seem that the Pohlads (this generation) are having fun with it and running the organization the right way, from what I can see. If they only cared about making $ they wouldn't have paid employees who weren't working during the pandemic.
  25. I'd love Bauer but I'd bet he goes to the Mets, Angels, or Padres. Would pass on Simmons. The bat is too light for someone playing every day
