  1. 100 innings with an ERA anywhere in the 4's would be a huge success IMO for a guy you're only paying 3.5 million and expecting to be your 5th starter. For reference, Shoemaker went 60 innings with an 8.06 ERA so that's a pretty low bar.
  2. I like the move. We need the depth, bad. If he can pitch 100 innings with an ERA in the 4's this signing will be a huge success.
  3. Buxton, Polanco and Correa should be 1-3. Don't bat Arraez ahead of any of those guys. He was a league average hitter last year and he's slow.
  4. Yeah, Cueto hasn't pitched a regular starter workload in 5 years. I don't think he gives us anything that say, Drew Strotman couldn't, except there's more depth if you sign Cueto.
  5. So it's Sands, Winder, Strotman, then Balazovic, most likely? Didn't realize Smeltzer wasn't on the 40 man because he'd probably be decent enough to get through an order once or twice. Yikes. Isn't Chris Archer still out there too?
  6. Certainly the pressure here is much less. It's a vikings town, so most casual Minnesotans probably won't even recognize him around town. He seems like he wants to win another world series though and I'm not seeing that with the current roster as constructed.
  7. I would like to see a follow up article on which team has the best overall "up the middle" pieces. Dodgers with Bellinger, Turner, Muncy? Braves with Swanson, Albies and Acuna? Twins with Polanco, Correa and Buxton?
  8. I love the deal, as well as the optics behind it. Correa has incentive to play well and cash out in FA. If he leaves, we have Royce waiting in the wings and got a 5-7 WAR season for 35 million dollars when we could afford it.
  9. Right. Unless we get Story and another starter, our team will be worse overall from the team that finished last in 2021. I would've rather kept Garver and Donaldson, signed Andrelton Simmons, and then done the trade for Sonny Gray.
  10. And downgraded the DH spot by putting Sanchez there. Perfect!
  11. Well, Greinke to the Royals. One year 13m deal. Twins could have easily sprung for that too...
  12. Royals too. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/royals-trade-rumors-frankie-montas.html Plenty of teams are going to be interested. If Twins don't get Montas, not the end of the world but they need another quality starter. Could be Manea. Could be Castillo or Mahle. Heck, if you don't want to give up prospects, the Twins could probably win 85-88 games with Story and Greinke or Matt Boyd? If you squint hard enough?
  13. I think we both would feel better if the Twins also got Montas! I see him as more of a #1 for 2022 than Gray. Montas, Gray, Ryan is a fine rotation for a playoff series. Definitely not Scherzer, DeGrom, Bassitt though.
  14. You proved my point- a guy with two 5 WAR seasons and 5.3 and 3.3 his last two seasons is not a #3. You're talking about Jack Flaherty's or Hyun Jin Ryu's best two seasons there, for reference.
  15. NY thought about releasing him. I'd at least give him some AB's before releasing him. He can't possibly be any worse than he was last year, right? I think he'll hit more than Rortvedt would this year, but of course he's worse defensively and a lot more expensive.
  16. He has a negative outs above average rating at every position. -5 in 2021 and -12 in 2019. That's bad. Donaldson was above average defensively every year with the Twins. Arraez isn't a complete butcher but he's not fast, and he doesn't have a great arm. Donaldson has a cannon.
  17. You're definitely selling Gray short. He was a 3.3 WAR pitcher last year, which was actually higher than Berrios. He might not be better than Berrios, but he's closer to Berrios than a #3. But I agree with the rest.
  18. I think it makes Arraez expendable because Urshela is a way better defender than LA. Arraez isn't a good defender anywhere, Urshela is elite at 3b and can even play short. Who will hit better in '23 is probably up for debate, though obviously Arraez is cheaper.
  19. Has anyone evaluated what banning sticky substances did to Gray's spin rates?
  20. None of those guys are a decent major league shortstop though. Bigger hole at SS than 3b currently.
  21. I'm thrilled another team was willing to take Donaldson, pay ALL his salary, and still give something in return. Granted, we gave up Rordvedt, but Urshela has 2 years of cheap team control remaining, and play a good 2nd or 3rd. Sanchez is kinda intriguing but mostly the Yankees wanted to get rid of him and I ultimately think a team other than the Twins takes on the Sanchez reclamation project.
  22. Not sure if Twins want Chapman, but Oakland has 2-3 pitchers still available that the Twins should be interested in for sure.
  23. I really like the trade. Seems overwhelmingly positive. Gray is a stud, you get him for two years at a very affordable price for a high school pitcher who was years away and has a high likelihood of not contributing at the MLB level ever.
