  1. I thought about that too but he was great with LAA and they were historically bad when he was there.
  2. He can't possibly be worse than he was this year. None of the better shortstops are going to take a one year deal. I wouldn't be mad if the Twins also signed 2-3 legitimate starters and 1-2 bullpen arms.
  3. Assuming he rejects the QO from Colorado, I'd guess 4/40? He should get more guaranteed $ than Kyle Gibson did.
  4. He apparently didn't bring that something to Cleveland, because, yeah, they were not good.
  5. Ichiro also stole bases, played every day, and provided ELITE defense in right field. Arraez is 0-3 there.
  6. I wouldn't bet against him though. I don't think he likes being in Houston. Hall of famers don't always follow the same aging trajectory as everyone else.
  7. Ray- too expensive. Twins won't outbid a bunch of teams for him. Kershaw will be back with LAD. Verlander will want to sign with a contender. Maybe NYY. Scherzer goes back to LAD. Greinke goes to an NL contender so he can hit. Matz is getting a big multi-year deal. I think Twins get outbid for Stroman, consider Thor too risky, and end up with someone like Jon Gray and then someone like JA Happ.
  8. He will most definitely want to play for an NL team if the NL does not adopt the DH. Never bet against Greinke. If he doesn't retire, he'll still be a valuable arm next year for some contender.
  9. Lewis played a ton of SS for the Twins in 2020 ST. He hit well too. I don't see any reason why the Twins don't view him as a SS. It's only other sites/writers who have said he might end up in the OF.
  10. I agree with almost all of this but would be thrilled if the Twins signed Greinke to a 1-2 year deal. He's durable, effective, and shouldn't be super expensive given his age and bad August 2021. Verlander is a risk, but Kluber bounced back pretty well from similar circumstances. I would sign a glove first SS to a cheap 1 year deal. Even Simmons; he can't be worse with the bat than he was in 2021.
  11. Thanks for this, was a pleasure to read. 7/133 actually seems more than fair to Buxton. I wouldn't make him the highest paid player in baseball. He's not Mike Trout, because Trout has actually proven he can stay healthy and win MVP's. 7/133 would be a huge gamble for the Twins. If Buxton wants more than that I'd honestly try and trade him this offseason.
  12. If the Twins trade Josh and don't pay all or most of the contract, the Twins will have to give up a decent prospect. Donaldson was the 2nd best player on the team this season. If the Twins want to compete next season, which the FO is saying they want to, they won't trade Donaldson.
  13. Twins won't really be interested in any of these guys. I expect them to look for a one year stop-gap until Lewis or Martin can assume the position. If you don't think Lewis is the SS of the future, you should have traded him already. Story is a legit star. Semien is not a defensive SS already. Correa will get the biggest deal of these five.
  14. Facts: The team was picked to win the division by most analysts, including those from outside of MN. The team finished last in the division. Baldelli has to take part of the blame for that.
  15. You're missing the fact that aging occurs, and it occurs faster if you've been injured a lot. Buxton's primary asset is his speed. He's not getting faster, and he's not getting healthier. If you break a bone, or have surgery, you're never quite the same again in that area. I'd bet that Donaldson plays more games than Buck next year. Donaldson has a history of injury issues but also can at least stay on the field as shown by his 44 career WAR and 4 seasons in top ten MVP voting. Buxton has zero years in the top ten of MVP voting. Personally, I wouldn't be mad if the Twins gambled on Buxton and signed him to an extension, but if I'm the GM I'm definitely shopping the trade market this winter to see if a team will overpay.
  16. I think the FO intends on putting the best team they can on the field in 2022. With that said, Donaldson is the every day 3B. If Donaldson goes down with injury, bring up Miranda and give him every day looks. Depth is always good.
  17. Yeah no way the Padres would do that trade. One year of Buxton is not worth that much. Maybe Buxton for Gore, straight up. I'd probably do that too.
  18. I went to 2020 spring training. Came back first week of March just before everything blew up. I was so blissfully expecting an awesome Twins season.
  19. I could go either way on Pineda for next year. Still hurt by the whole PED suspension thing and missing the playoff run and playoffs when the team needed him. He has been highly effective when on the field though, even though his stuff is not nearly as good as it used to be.
  20. Simmons will certainly be available on a one year deal again, for cheaper. He can't possibly hit worse than he did this year, right??
  21. Solid starter, no. His benefit is versatility. He's a competent defender in all three outfield spots, not on the level of Buxton, Kepler or even Celestino. Re Gordon: if the FO has to make a choice between Gordon and Astudillo as the utility guy, that's a no brainer. I have no doubt Gordon is going to work hard and improve.
  22. Hard pass on Ray (buying extremely high) and Thor. I'd expect the FO to sign someone like Dylan Bundy or James Paxton.
  23. Bringing him back would be much worse. I do not want to see Colome in a Twins jersey next year for 5.5 million. Even if he is good, the team is going to be awful, so you might as well give innings to young guys to see what you have.

    Saddest sports city

I was born in '91, so I've never seen a MN major sports championship, but if the Royals and Marlins can win a WS, the Twins should be able to. The Brewers have a shot this year getting zero help from their former MVP; there's no excuse for the Twins not winning a world series or playoff series when teams like the Marlins, Royals, Brewers, Reds, Rays, Rockies, and Cardinals have done it recently. I mean, the Rays have been to two world series in recent memory in the toughest division in baseball with zero fan support, a crappy stadium, and the lowest average payroll in the league.

    Saddest sports city

If you use the four main professional sports leages- NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, Minneapolis currently has the longest title drought of any city with all four leagues represented. End of story-worst state to be a sports fan. Throw the MLS in there too, though the United have only had four seasons in the MLS so far and definitely overachieved last year. Who's the next team to break the title drought? Uh...Wild, maybe?
