  1. Yeah no way the Padres would do that trade. One year of Buxton is not worth that much. Maybe Buxton for Gore, straight up. I'd probably do that too.
  2. I went to 2020 spring training. Came back first week of March just before everything blew up. I was so blissfully expecting an awesome Twins season.
  3. I could go either way on Pineda for next year. Still hurt by the whole PED suspension thing and missing the playoff run and playoffs when the team needed him. He has been highly effective when on the field though, even though his stuff is not nearly as good as it used to be.
  4. Simmons will certainly be available on a one year deal again, for cheaper. He can't possibly hit worse than he did this year, right??
  5. Solid starter, no. His benefit is versatility. He's a competent defender in all three outfield spots, not on the level of Buxton, Kepler or even Celestino. Re Gordon: if the FO has to make a choice between Gordon and Astudillo as the utility guy, that's a no brainer. I have no doubt Gordon is going to work hard and improve.
  6. Hard pass on Ray (buying extremely high) and Thor. I'd expect the FO to sign someone like Dylan Bundy or James Paxton.
  7. Bringing him back would be much worse. I do not want to see Colome in a Twins jersey next year for 5.5 million. Even if he is good, the team is going to be awful, so you might as well give innings to young guys to see what you have.

    Saddest sports city

I was born in '91, so I've never seen a MN major sports championship, but if the Royals and Marlins can win a WS, the Twins should be able to. The Brewers have a shot this year getting zero help from their former MVP; there's no excuse for the Twins not winning a world series or playoff series when teams like the Marlins, Royals, Brewers, Reds, Rays, Rockies, and Cardinals have done it recently. I mean, the Rays have been to two world series in recent memory in the toughest division in baseball with zero fan support, a crappy stadium, and the lowest average payroll in the league.

    Saddest sports city

If you use the four main professional sports leages- NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, Minneapolis currently has the longest title drought of any city with all four leagues represented. End of story-worst state to be a sports fan. Throw the MLS in there too, though the United have only had four seasons in the MLS so far and definitely overachieved last year. Who's the next team to break the title drought? Uh...Wild, maybe?
  10. I wouldn't say Arraez is underrated. He's actually gotten worse every year of his MLB career so far. He's barely an above average hitter this year, and he's not exactly Omar Vizquel out there in the field. He's a great utility guy to have, and I love watching him play though. He should probably be hitting leadoff.
  11. His stuff is clearly good, and he's having fun out there. He arguably will end up being the most valuable Twins pitcher overall this year, somehow?!
  12. Rocco literally said the Twins are rebuilding this week, using that exact word. He also said the Twins "don't have the payroll of the Dodgers or Yankees" so can't just spend our way to contention year in and year out.
  13. Wow, negative 2.7 WAR for a reliever is really bad. Why in the world did he get 58 innings?! OPS against over 1,000 for the season is incredible.
  14. How many runners has Simba thrown out at home, third, first, etc just on relay plays? He's not a good hitter but appears to be a good team leader and well-liked. Twins don't have an heir apparent at shortstop (that would be Lewis, but he can't play) so whoever else you throw out there isn't a long term viable starter either. Pineda is also well-liked and the Twins would like him back next year. I sure would.
  15. Way too early to tell on Dobnak. He was great for a year, good for a year, looked unhittable in spring training, then the Twins messed him up, then he got hurt. I expect him to be a solid #4 in the rotation next year.
  16. 1. Randy Dobnak was pretty dang good as a rookie. Good enough to start game 2 of a playoff series. 2. I totally forgot Colome has an option year. Keep throwing him out there to see if it's worth exercising.
  17. Mike, would you take Gore for Berrios, straight up? I doubt the Padres do it but I'd take that deal in a second.
  18. Yep. I'd be willing to bet Donaldson ends up with more career WAR than Buxton.
  19. Buxton's presence will not be missed on a nightly basis because he's never played on a nightly basis. Speed first outfielders with a long history of injury issues don't suddenly become more healthy in their 30's. He's not going to be consistently on the field. Frankly I think the Twins offer to him was more than I would've offered. I'd do a shorter higher AAV deal though.
  20. I'd like to see the Twins pick Seth Halverson again. MN kid. Hits high 90's. Picked him out of high school, and he went to Missouri but with Mizzou's NCAA troubles he'll either go pro or transfer if he doesn't get drafted again.
  21. I strongly doubt the Twins extend either Berrios or Buxton. Berrios wants to see what he's worth in FA and if the Twins were going to extend him, that would've already happened. Buxton is expecting Betts/Lindor type money, and no way the Twins will pay that. I wouldn't touch extending him with a 20 foot pole with his injury history. Players with injury history in their 20's don't suddenly become healthy in their 30's. Aging is unavoidable, and since Buck relies so much on his speed as an asset, he will decline. I love Buck as much as anybody but you have to face the facts that he will not be a reliable CF. If he plays a corner spot he will be way overpaid especially when we have Larnach, Kiriloff, Wallner to fill those spots at a cheap price. Next 6: Arraez, Balazovic, Kiriloff, Larnach, Lewis, Duran.
  22. Totally agree. Hope that Buxton comes back healthy this year and trade him too.
  23. I also hear the message from South Dakotans, Iowans, etc. Been downtown a bunch in the last year, used to work in downtown every day. Never felt unsafe downtown, then or now. The only difference I've seen is a growth in the number of homeless people. Lots more tents in places where I haven't seen tents before.
  24. Can't build a team around a guy who never plays more than 100 games a season. Guys who can't stay healthy in their 20's don't suddenly become durable in their 30's. Buxton has only played over 100 games in a season once, in 2017. I love Buck, but I wouldn't extend him unless he's taking a discount for the health issues. I'm guessing he's expecting to be paid like Betts.
  25. First game I attended since spring training 2020. It was a thoroughly boring game with all the strikeouts by Twins hitters, and uninspiring play. Thorpe was effective enough to win the game and so was the bullpen. That loss is on the offense-the rangers pitching is awful.
