  1. Seriously though, if the Twins asked about Lindor, the Indians would say "Sure, he's yours for Royce Lewis and Luis Arraez." And nope. They're not going to trade to a division rival unless we dramatically overpay. No thanks on that. Story would be (theoretically) more available and cheaper than Lindor.
  2. Poor Kuechel. Do the Twins have the best home run hitting right handed lineup in the history of baseball?
  3. Heck. Yes. So pumped for spring training now. Went from "we will be a little worse than last year" to "lineup and infield defense should be as good or better than last year" with this signing. I think he will add some fire to the clubhouse as well. Much like Cruz did.
  4. Altuve is most definitely a free swinger though:)
  5. Nope! At least on paper. The rotation is worse and so is the lineup.
  6. Fun to think about, but he has no chance. He's been very good for the last decade though. I'm a young guy who's in favor of a small HOF and no PED users getting in. Not Bonds. Not Clemens. Not Cruz. But I still love Cruz and think undoubtedly he was the team MVP last season.
  7. Just sign Donaldson. Even if he only totals 13.5 WAR over 4 years it's a good value. He'll have 10 WAR in the first two years feasting on AL central pitching, then worst case scenario he plays some third and still is worth 2 WAR as a DH in year three and four. There you go. You also improve the infield defense for 2020 and 2021 and probably have the best lineup in MLB in 2020. Do it. The guy has been a 5 WAR player 6 of the last 7 years and would have been the best player on the Twins last year.
  8. He's not a good player when not injured. He's a great player. He won an MVP. He would've been the best player on the Twins last season. Go get him. 4/90 is a bargain. 4/100 is fair. Even 4/110 would be acceptable. He's been a 5 war player 6 out of the last seven years guys. For reference, that's better than 2019 Max Kepler. He was injured only in 2018. He's going to OPS .875 for you, play great defense at third, and he's a gamer. My only hesitation is clubhouse fit but I assume the FO has investigated that since they've already made a serious offer.
  9. It is more likely that Hill never throws a pitch for the Twins than it is he makes a start in October.
  10. Somebody in one thread also was seriously arguing for signing Rich Hill specifically. I'm definitely not excited about Homer Bailey for the same price as Martin Perez 2019. Please give him a short short leash.
  11. This is fun to discuss. Lots of 'pen depth, which can't be anything but a good thing. I think May, Duffey and Rogers will all be elite again. Their stuff is just too good. Once Duffey started throwing his curve harder instead of throwing a slow big hook it was extremely effective at fooling hitters. May needs to keep throwing his best pitch more than half the time- his fastball.
  12. Not much. About one-fourth of Jon Gray from the Rockies. Kiriloff for Gray would be more even. Also Cleveland's rotation is still way, way better on paper for 2020 than the Twins. Clevinger, Bieber, Plesac, Plutko, Civale, possible Carlos Carrasco. We will have Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe and Devin Smeltzer in the rotation who have not even combined for 100 major league innings.
  13. I like it. Nice solid move that should really help the pen.
  14. He's a strong personality that's for sure. Extremely intense competitor. From what I've heard it doesn't sound like he would fit with Rocco's clubhouse chemistry. Twins seem to have a very laid back hands off approach. I trust Rocco to handle it though.
  15. Count me as also surprised we're willing to go four years for Donaldson. Surely we can't outbid the Nats, and I'd guess Donaldson would rather go to the world series champs, but Rosenthal reported it yesterday, so that's definitely something.
  16. Take Tyler Austin off the list. He signed with a team in Japan. Pretty good deal for him actually, and I bet he'll rake. Who is this Kohl Stewart guy? He was a first round pick, and isn't that old. I'd take on flyer on him, I bet he'd sign cheap.
  17. Ryu won the ERA crown last year. You don't think he's good? Madbum was better than Berrios last year in many metrics. You don't think Berrios is good either? Madbum would've led our team in strikeouts and innings.
  18. I forgot all about Matt Moore. Had no idea he was still in baseball. He has really good stuff.
  19. Marwin's bat is not good enough for him to be your everyday 1B. I'd make an offer to Smoakie. He's a good guy and took good AB's against the Twins last year.
  20. Out of curiosity I checked: Both Ryu and Bumgarner had one start vs NYY in 2019. Both lost and neither were very good. Ryu got shelled in August. Bumgarner lost but went into the 6th in April, gave up 11 hits though. Ryu had four starts in a row at the end of August and his first start of September where he was absolutely awful; the Yankees start was the second of four. These four starts inflated his ERA a full run, from 1.45 to 2.45. Kuechel in 2018 had one really good start vs the Yankees and one okay one. Out of these three, Kuechel has been the best recently vs the Yankees. Small Sample Sizes.
  21. Not sure where to put this, but Danny Salazar is also a free agent. Is he done? Is some team going to take a flier on him for next to nothing?
  22. Few problems with this scenario. Assuming the Rockies would actually trade Jon Gray, you are way overvaluing Rosario. They might do Buxton for Gray. Or Gray for Arraez and Rosario. Littell is not going back to a starting role. I highly doubt the Indians would trade Lindor to the team competing for their division title in 2020-2021. I think that offer is fair though, or maybe even a little high, for two years of Lindor. But mostly, I'm not sure that makes the Twins better. Primary need is starting pitching, preferably someone better than or equal to Odo and Berrios. Secondary need is someone at first better than 2019 CJ Cron. None of our AA or AAA guys are ready for a #3 rotation spot in 2020.
  23. I would say the statement about Ryu is incorrect, since he's only pitched 180 innings twice in the last seven years. Last year he was one of the most effective pitchers in all of baseball. He has had two good years. One was last year, and the other was his rookie season at age 26. The other years he either didn't pitch at all or missed a ton of starts. He was also not effective in the postseason in 2018 and 2019= one quality start in four starts. He has been pretty good, when healthy, in the regular season. I'm convinced the FO is pursuing him because they're chasing a good deal. I hope he proves me wrong and stays healthy wherever he goes, but I'd rather have Madbum.
  24. I will be absolutely floored if we sign Madbum, Kuechel or Ryu. I don't think the predominant sentiment (at least on this site) is that the Twins are actively trying to make offers and get rejected to say "oh, we tried." I think we are in the agreement that they are more concerned with overpaying or "getting a good value" than they are with winning in 2020. Sometimes you have to overpay to chase a championship when the window is open. I think most serious Twins fans would be okay with overpaying to sign Cole. Or Madbum. The understanding is that you won't be getting your money's worth for the whole length of that contract, but you had to overpay to outbid other teams, and it's worth it if you really need elite SP in 2020-2021.
