  1. If it was that easy the Nationals would have done it.
  2. Through it all the Twins FO got lucky two years in a row. No way did they seriously try to sign Correa until he fell into their lap a 2nd time. The fact that they got it done with really only a 6 year commitment shows that Correa and Boras were both getting desperate. Now the FO has to hope that the ankle issue does not make them look like fools. One thing is for sure, Falvine does not view injuries as a problem, which bit them in the backside bigtime in 2022. Only time will tell if it does again.
  3. I'm sure no one else has thought of doing this. The Twins are the only ones who have a clue on how to improve players. Choke, cough, gasp, laugh out loud .....
  4. "This time around, the Twins could aim a bit higher." They could but won't. When you spend $11M for a .160 hitter in Gallo their aim is about as low as it can go and having plenty of spending money is slowly being resolved by using it on worthless players.
  5. The FO doesn't look at previous performances much less 3 year sample sizes or they wouldn't make any of the moves that they do. They see short periods of success on a player and think the guy will/can do that forever. Take a player like Jorge Lopez with a short-term window of success. they jumped at him and he was horrendous for 5 seasons previously. They stuck with Sano and Kepler and both have not produced outside of 1 short year window in their 8 year careers. Anyone with half a baseball brain can look at the players they bring in and/or keep and see that most of these guys are average to mediocre at best yet they think they are the answer. Now add Gallo and his .160 BA and you can see what I mean. Falvey and Levine are either blind or have on rose colored glasses that they got at the five and dime store..
  6. Doctor Gast is throwing his long relief belief into the ring again. LOL. If that is what it takes then so be it but do we really want or need 4 or 5 guys in long relief? If Gray, Ryan and Mahle are the only starters going into 2023 then the Twins will have to get creative working Maeda, Ober, Winder, Varland, SWR, Canterino and Henriquez into the mix. With Rocco at the helm I don't see that happening. His spreadsheet says he doesn't need long-relief guys. Oh yeah, don't forget stud Dobnak.
  7. I agree with jjswol. There are too many to list and limiting that list to just 5 doesn't cut it. I would say the only ones that DON'T have anything to prove would be a much shorter list and that would include Ryan, Polanco, Arraez, Duran, Gray, Miranda, Gordon, and Theilbar, just off the top of my head. Everyone else needs to prove they can stay healthy and be productive players for an entire season.
  8. "The numbers haven't been too impressive up to this point, but the Twins obviously see something they like." The problem is that they see numbers that aren't impressive and that IS what they like, otherwise they wouldn't go after players like this. Another ho-hum average type player that doesn't move the needle, that they think they can make into something special which will make them look like geniuses. Why should fans expect anything else? When you consistantly take other teams cast-offs and expect them to all of the sudden become integral pieces to your team it is only one thing, hope and a prayer, and we all know how that works. I swear this FO loves mediocrity. If they would take all of the money they throw at crap players and combine it into one contract for 1 really good player that would help them actually win games they'd have something, but they seriously don't get it.
  9. Signing Gallo at $11M to replace Sano who would have cost $14M saved the Twins $3M and they still get the massive hole in their lineup. These guys are brillant!
  10. Your logic is like that of the fools running this team. Let's make sure we use guys that hit .160 and .224 while the guy that has shown he can hit .272 rides the bench. Neither Kepler or Gallo have hit .272 in their 8 year careers, yet you prefer them over Gordon. If we look beyond batting average in 2022 Gordon had 50 RBI, Kepler had 49 and Gallo had 47. Also, why is anyone to assume Gordon has hit his ceiling after 1 full season in the majors? It would be a safer bet to assume that Kepler and Gallo have hit theirs. Why assume his defense is bad when you saw him in the outfield for the 1st time in his career and you then use that to compare him to Kepler and Gallo who have played it their entire careers. Give the guy a chance to learn playing in the outfield. It's like everyone here bashing Miranda's defense when he never played 1st base before. Let's all just assume he'll be really bad defensively at 3B too. If hitting an occasional HR and striking out every 3rd time up is so great why is Sano gone? Why did the Twins strand so many base runners in 2022? Because they were trying to hit HRs instead of manufacturing runs. The HR ball is gone. It's over for the Bomba Squad. You can't hit 3 run homeruns when all you have is guys that swing for the fences and strikeout instead of getting ON BASE. Gordon will do that better than Kepler or Gallo ever will.
  11. Not sure why the remark was made that Nick Gordon is the type of player you dont want to play everyday. He only hit .272 in 2022 which was 4th best among all of the Twins to get significant at bats. His 50 RBI's was only 1 behind the great Byron Buxton who can't stay on the field. I'm just guessing here but I suspect outfielders like Joey Gallo and his .160 BA and Max Kepler and his .227 BA will get precedent over Nick Gordon. It's the Twins way. (This organization will continue to bleed mediocrity as long as they keep placing value on washed up veterans ahead of the players that actually produce). For Polanco, I'm sure if it was "his decision" he would remain healthy. And if that happens I suspect he'll return to his very productive self. The real question is.... will he get his 550 PA or will he get babied and miss out due to Rocco's no questions, no excuses, no way I'm changing it, because I don't know how, schedule of rest days?
  12. My flawed perception showed in 2022 that he hit .224 and struck out 116 times in 382 PA. Trending to very much like a Sano. I find WAR numbers to be insignificant when the player is on the bench due to injury. When Buck puts together a FULL season in the outfield where a good portion of his WAR number of 20 comes from, then I will consider him with the likes of the Bregmans, Devers, Arraez, Springers and so on.... until then...... not gonna happen.
  13. In the quest for Buxton to produce his other worldly power numbers that some think will make him the next superstar 2nd only to Aaron Judge, he has become Sano-esque and by the end of his Twins career, IMO he will be the biggest over-hyped disappointment this organization has ever had, along-side Sano. He can't put together 1 good full season much less 2.
  14. How in the world did you come up with these 3? Miranda was a rookie and played out of position most of the year while leading the team in RBI's. Why does he need to step up? He performed quite well and I would take that from him again. Lopez is a 1 inning reliever that can be replaced with a strong return from Alcala. No big loss if he doesn't step up. Jeffers could remain in mediocrity for the next 3 seasons if Vazquez does his job. If you want 3 guys that need to step up maybe it's time for Buxton to step up and play for an entire season. Would it be too much to ask for Kepler to hit something more than his weight? How about Mahle pitching like a #2 guy? These 3 making improvement in where it is needed would benefit the team way more than the 3 you mention. Then there's always the 3 leaders, Falvey, Levine and Rocco. Maybe when they step up and quit making idiotic decisions the team will improve as well.
  15. Without an Ace, an improved bullpen, a healthy outfield filled with at least 2 guys that can hit, a Correa won't make a difference. Been there, done that.
  16. I really like articles that suggest a list of players the Twins should/could persue and go on to point out the weaknesses of those players which contradict the very reason to go after them. You mention Devers and say his defense is starting to look ugly and then suggest Miranda could be part of the trade to get him, yet you go on to say Miranda could become a right-handed version of Devers. Why then would you make that trade? I don't understand the hate for Miranda's defense on this site. How many games has he played at 3rd base? Let's all just assume he's going to be horrific. As for Rendon, he's set to make $38.5M per year for the next 4 years. If the FO wasn't willing to spend that type of money for a Correa they'd look like complete buffoons to trade for Rendon. Course, the Gallo signing has already made them look like buffoons so there's that. The Escobar ship has sailed, Why would anyone want him over Miranda? Well, maybe the buffoons, I guess. Point being..... the Twins don't need a 3rd baseman. Let's quit speculating on taking positions and at bats away from our better hitters. The Twins signed catcher Vazquez. Sorry Jeffers but that is an improvement. Now they need to sign a 1 year SS and find 3 outfielders that can hit above .230 and play everyday, if they are serious about improving the offense.
  17. Last time I checked Bundy, Archer, Smeltzer and Duffey were still all available. $44 million should be enough to get them all back on the roster. The Twins like to give out $11M contracts to guys that can't hit so they'd be perfect additions. Throw in the fact that they can't pitch either and it's a match made in heaven.
  18. #1. Why did they sign Joey Gallo? Answer: They are sticking to the Twins way of trying to catch lightning in a bottle. The boy geniuses want to make that one deal that will make them look smarter than anyone else. Even though it hasn't happened yet with the Shoemakers, Happs, Archers, and pretty much everyone else they have acquired that doesn't mean you change what doesn't work. To them, it means you try more often. For a little more than $34.6 million the Twins could have an outfield of 3 guys that hit .224, .227, and .160 in 2022 and none of the 3 played a full season. Seriously, is there anyone here that thinks that is a recipe for success? I'm not sure what stuff they are smoking because the cloud of stink coming from it gets thicker with every move they make.
  19. This is funny. Funny how washed up players, (outside of Hendriks) get the attention on this site. Sure, Hicks would be a great addition. He fits every thing the Twins like about a player. Plays part-time, can't hit and only cost roughly $10M per season. He'd be a better deal than Gallo at $11M and you can throw that money away for 3 years instead of just one. Perfect! Maybe, just maybe, don't hold your breath, someday the FO will figure out that if you spend all of the money you throw at 2 worthless players and use it to get 1 good player you'll be much better off. For instance, Kepler is getting $8.5M in 2023 and Gallo will get $11M. Just imagine the type of player they could get if they used that $19.5M on 1 player, It might actually be a player that can hit!
  20. I can see this happening. The Twins love to bring in players that can play defense and NOT hit. It would be a perfect addition to go with the other black holes in the lineup with Kepler and Gallo.
  21. In order to lose out on Correa "AGAIN", you have to be "IN" in the first place. They never were and still aren't.
  22. I would say everyone here cares about this team or we wouldn't be giving our undying opinions of how bad this team is run. I was not in the majority here that we should sign Correa. He didn't lead the Twins in any offensive catagory in 2022 which I feel a player demanding a superstar contract should be able to do. I'm glad they didn't sign him, however, as many here have suggested, once the FO saw what the other top FA were signing for they should have went to Plan B immediately and went after some of the other 2nd tier FA's that could have improved this team before they too were picked over. How well has their Plan of signing left-overs gone the past couple of years? How often do you have to be punched in the face before you change Plan A that doesn't work? Unless there is more tied to the Gallo signing that we don't know about how worthless is that signing when he is a Sano/Kepler clone? They were 2 of the biggest holes in the lineup the last 2 years and we have a Manager that slotted them into the middle of the lineup where they proved to be more inept than a NIck Gordon/utility player? It seriously looks to me like the fans need to completely stop going to Target Field to send a bigger message. Evidently the FO and Dave St Peter didn't get enough of it yet from the lower attendance in 2022.
  23. I beg to differ. If they are "smart guys" they wouldn't need a miracle.
  24. Let's see..... Gallo at $11M, Kepler at $8.5M, and Buxton at $15M. That's only $34.5M for 2 guys that can't hit and 1 that can't stay on the field. What can go wrong? In the meantime, guys that can hit and play everyday are too expensive....... yeah right!
  25. More dumpster diving. Tell me, what's the purpose of signing a good catcher if your other moves are not going to move the needle in the same direction? Gallo does nothing to improve this team. This FO fell in love with the Bomba Squad and will stop at nothing to try to bring it back. As for Gallo being part of another move/trade forthcoming..... who wants him for $11M besides the Twins? The IKF deal was all about clearing a hefty Donaldson contract to what eventually led to Correa fleecing the Twins and now the Giants. If Gallo is a fill in for losing a Larnach or Kirilloff or some other young prospect that is going to be part of a trade then I'm going to be more than furious. What a waste of a roster spot. When I was scanning all of the potential FA outfielders the Twins could and should add, Gallo was at the bottom of the list. Why would anyone want to add another Sano? Another hole in the lineup? And don't you bet against Rocco using him every chance he can, because it didn't matter how bad Sano was, he was in the lineup when he was healthy enough to play. The same will happen with Gallo. The FO doesn't spend $11M and expect their Manager to sit him on the bench. The fact that he can play all 3 spots in the OF plus 1B besides the DH means he will be used all over with Rocco at the helm. Which brings up another interesting trend the FO is on. Getting players that can be used at multiple positions. Farmer is that type and now Gallo. It's as if, due to the massive number of injuries last year, they now think they need to hedge against that and get players that can play multiple positions. Keep it up FO. Rocco has to be thrilled. He could quite possibly have a different lineup for every one of the 162 games next year. The chance of the Twins and Rocco having that record is more likely to happen than them ever setting the HR record again. It's too bad that the Twins committed to Buxton, because due to his history a backup CF is a must which leads to these types of moves.
