    Not a bad move. Essentially you are replacing Urshela, a 3rd baseman with Farmer, a shortstop when you have depth at 3B in Miranda but not at SS. And it is the "Twins way" when they can get another player for half the cost of what they had. Now use that added savings and go get Rodon and Contreras.

    I'd pass. Anyone who thinks a career .240 hitter (Renfro) is significantly better than a career .232 hitter (Kepler) with both having nearly identical OBP just because he's right-handed needs to reevaluate their priorities.

    Thanks for the article about a player that is worthy of space here. Everyone complains that the Twins don't have an Ace. Rodon is the closest thing to an Ace they are going to have the chance at this year without trading away more of the future. From what I can see it boils down to which do the Twins need more? A shortstop or an Ace? Which leads to the question of how many World Series are won by teams without an Ace? Or without a top shortstop? You really don't have to look too far back in history to find the answer. And if you only want to look at the Twins history of their 2 Championships how did they do it? Was it because of Frank Viola and Jack Morris or was Greg Gagne the difference maker?

    I look to improve in other areas. I sign a stopgap Iglesias for 1 or 2 years until Lewis or Lee can take over and then add a Rodon, Contreras and right-handed hitting outfielder after I trade Kepler for a bag of peanuts.

    Sure, sign him. He is an aging veteran with declining skills and is losing his eye-sight. A perfect addition from the dumpster.

    YES, ABSOLUTELY! We need more guys in the lineup who swing for the fences, seldomly making contact and hitting below the mendoza line. Is there anyone else who you guys will write about, that absolutely makes NO sense to add to this team? He is a left-handed version of SaNO.

    This only reflects their past mistakes. If you can sign a player that falls into your lap late in the game and he is your best player then what have you done up to that point in previous years? NOTHING! That alone is an embarassment.

    Haniger could be another part-timer with with injuries. Martinez is becoming that washed up veteran and Drury could take at bats away from the main guys in the lineup that should be playing every day. Really? And, if they are all still there late in the Free Agent signing period that tells me that no one else wants them, so of course they would fit perfectly on the Twins roster. Seriously, the Twins have to stop with eating the left-overs on the Friday after Thanksgiving and start feasting on Turkey Day.

    This tells me that the Twins value a part-time specialist type player over a prospect that they could protect from the rule 5 draft. Having a player like Garlick take a spot on the 40 man roster will possibly cost a prospect as well. I guess the Twins aren't serious about making improvements to the team. If he would be used ONLY as a pinch hitter against a lefty pitcher late in a game I would have no problem but the Twins have a Manager that will still let him bat against a righty. Saw it many times last year where he started against a lefty and Rocco let him bat when the opposing team brought in a righty later in the game. Mr. Analytic Rocco uses his analytics when he wants and then also refuses to use analytics when he needs to.

    A player with a ton of talent that couldn't adjust. Can't say how many times I heard others make the remark that if he wouldn't swing so hard at every pitch and would just concentrate on making contact he'd become a much better hitter. Don't know for sure but wonder if the Twins wanted him or enticed him to be an all or nothing type of hitter. My guess is he'll get picked up by some other team and mash 40+ HR's for them. Even so, I don't want to see him in the Twins lineup anymore. Now they just need to get rid of the other two failures in Kepler and Buxton. If Sano was hole #1 in the lineup then Kepler is hole #2. I know I will catch some crap for this but Buxton can't stay on the field and this past year has become an all or nothing type of hitter just like Sano was. All 3 are/were over-rated IMO.

    I will pass on Correa and give one to each Rodon and Contreras if they sign with the Twins. Correa money will just be better spent elsewhere.

    Fleeced again. This is a prime example of a club, (Baltimore) selling high on a player that has no history of being anything but bad. There's a sucker born every minute and there's the Twins organization that falls for it time after time.

    I would not spend on another reliever. My money goes to Rodon to fill the Ace vacancy in the rotation. This effectively adds another reliever by pushing either Maeda or Winder to the bullpen to be used as a long reliever which is soooo badly needed if the starters are not going to go at least 6 innings. The rotation if it is healthy would be Rodon, Gray, Mahle, Ryan, and Ober. The back end of the bullpen would be Jax, Thielbar, Alcala, Moran, Lopez, Duran.

    Filling the rotation with starters who can at least stay healthy and excel in 4-5 inning starts. Finding at least one workhorse type starter who can reliably give you 6+ innings each turn. Equipping the bullpen with enough firepower and multi-inning relievers to shoulder the load. Having one central mastermind oversee the operation (and if it's not working, find someone new). These are all very good points but I'd like to lean on the 4th one on this list. Doesn't this fall upon the Manager? Last time I checked he is running the day to day operations of the team making in game decisions. Or is he just a puppet doing what he is told? If the Manager can't see when something is not working when it unfolds right in front of him and does nothing to change it then the ONLY answer is to "find someone new".

    They can very quickly solve two problems in Free Agency. Add Rodon for your Ace and Contreras for your other catcher. Both make the team considerably better going into 2023. Rodon makes Gray your #2 instead of your #1 and moves Ryan. Mahle, Ober and the young guys, Winder, Varland, SWR, all down one notch in pecking order as well. Slide Maeda into a long-relief role. Release Pagan and give his spot to Ronnie Henriquez as another long reliever. Then fill the back of the pen with Thielbar, Jax, Moran, Alcala, Lopez and Duran. Yeah, that's 16 guys but they'll need 'em all eventually. Stashak will probably be back as well with options to use Sands and Megill. Enlow and Balazovic both on the 40 man may see some time in 2023 too. I wouldn't resign Fulmer as he is borderline effective and there are currently other in-house options just as good as him. By the way, can we stop seeing pictures of worthless players like Duffey? They only conjure up bad memories that we'd like to forget about.

    No, No, and No. If a Championship is the goal the Twins have to stop aiming low. Interestingly there is another article here on Twins Daily about a pitcher called Pressly. None of these 3 are anywhere close to his caliber, which is the ONLY type of pitcher they should be looking to acquire. When you always settle for 2nd best or less you will always be 2nd best or less. Go big or go home. Pitching wins Championships.

    I agree with Mark G. I don't get the "other needs" mantra either. Jeffers goes down and there is no one. Go get Contreras.

    I'd venture to guess the "totally on board" mantra will be if Correa falls into their lap. again. Otherwise it won't happen, which I'm fine with, IF they spend the money to improve the team elsewhere.

    Yes get Contreras. All he will cost is money which the Twins have plenty of with Correa and Sano coming off the books. Stop trading top prospects away for players other teams are willing to let go when really good players are available as Free Agents.

    If they don't sign a difference maker, which I highly doubt they will, I'd just as soon see them go with what they have giving the young guys a chance to prove themselves. They seriously need to upgrade the offense after watching almost every guy on base be left on base. If they can score a couple more runs per game the pitching doesn't have to be lights out.

    I would not have a problem with signing Bogaerts. At least the guy can hit. What we don't need is a defense only SS. Any additions to the field also need to be able to HIT. With a stable full of young developing arms for the rotation already here I don't see them signing much when it comes to new pitching. Depending on what they do with Urshela, Kepler, Polanco a good bat at SS is the only way to go.

    If they don't go big, I'd prefer they don't go at all. My instincts tell me since they let Palacios walk they are planning a trade or FA signing to be a fill in instead. Palacios would have made a good stop-gap player to get to Lewis. Now if that is there plan they will have to look elsewhere unless however, I see no harm in using a combo of Gordon, Polanco, Urshela until one of Lewis/Martin/Lee can take over. This team is going no where in 2023 anyway.

    The problem is they are being praised for their accomplishments by St Peter who oversees the entire organization. Why deviate from the "Plan" when your boss thinks it is working. The only person who can bring this whole mess to a halt is the OWNER and he seems to either be 1. On board with their decisions or 2. MIA.

    Not surprising he was let go. The Twins have tried him as a starter multiple times and while he has shown a few really good outings he could never put it together over the long haul. As a bullpen guy, even though it wasn't many times, he was worse. I think his time to move on was here and the right decision was made for both him and the Twins. It's time to let guys like Varland, and Woods-Richardson have a chance.

    Regardless if Rocco is making these decisions on his own or not, the FO has his back. They are joined at the hip. Just like the FO bringing in the washed-up pitchers that they stick with even when they are bad, they are doing the same with Rocco. It'll take the FO to be fired for Rocco to be fired. St Peter has already said that they have done a really good job and will run this organization for many years to come. When the head of your operations can't see how bad they've been there is little hope for change near term. Unfortunately it'll take another season or two or three or who the H E double LL toothpicks knows of failed expectations before any changes are made in the FO or management and coaching.
