    Most draft picks, even the first rounders, will always be fraught with risk. All you can do is do your research, pick wisely, do your best to develop the player, and hope for the best. Overall, this looks like a good draft for the Twins. Outside of Jenkins, there is not much of a "wow" factor, although I am very intrigued by young pitchers such as Soto and Pasqualotto. Very happy that the Twins went out and grabbed more pitchers this time around, I mean, some of these guys have to end up playing in the majors at some point. Let's get the process started!

    What do people think will happen to Nelson Cruz at this point? Is he finished, or will another team give him a shot this season?

    Not sure, I don't recall reading anything about him at all this season, which is why I was wondering if he was playing anywhere, even in Japan, this year.

    McCutchen is having a very good comeback year, but I think he's in Pittsburgh to stay this time. Maybe we could add another bullpen arm, such as Garrett from the Royals, but I really don't think the Twins need to be trading any type of quality prospects for a hope and prayer at this point. I think we just need to be patient and roll with what we have ... and hope for a miracle or two!

    Hard to tell just from watching those videos, but might this kid have some control issues? Whatever the case, I hope the Twins can "develop" him into a MLB quality pitcher!

    Good to have a win of course, but disappointing to see Lopez give up so many runs ... and against a fairly weak Oakland lineup. I hope Pablo returns to form in his next outing.

    Sonny Gray seems like a very competitive pitcher, the type that wants to win every time he takes the mound. Sure, you can say that about almost all pitchers, but Sonny fits more into that bulldog type of mentality that really takes that effort to another level. I'm happy that he's with the Twins. There are times it looks like he has a chip on his shoulder and has a lot to prove. It also strikes me that perhaps he doesn't feel like he is respected enough or considered valuable to the Twins. Look back to the opening game of the season: he wasn't the one chosen to start that game, even though he was clearly the veteran with the best resume. Okay, that's maybe not any sort of proof that the Twins don't consider him valuable, but at the same time, I just don't get the feeling that he has felt all that comfortable in a Twins uniform. Whether that's due to how Rocco has used him, or other issues, I honestly can't say, it's just a gut feeling. In any case, I don't see Gray hanging up his uniform after this season. I respect the fact that he has family reasons for maybe wanting to put a stop to his career sooner than expected, but I also think that with his competitive nature we will see him pitching again ---somewhere --- next season and beyond,.

    Let's hope that the game you saw was the worst of his pitching career! In any case, good to get feedback like that. From reading the main article he sounds like another bright young man. Go out and challenge those batters!

    I got to agree with your assessment. I can't imagine the Padres giving up both of those pitchers for only Miranda and Polanco. Hey, if that's the deal, I'd jump on it if I were the Twins, but I think such a swap would be highly unlikely.

    Another good article to whet our baseball appetites! Looking forward to seeing this kid on the field, or at least reading more about him. Sounds like we got a good one!

    Thanks, let us know if you get that confirmed. I was going to ask what type of surgery, and that's what I feared. I was really hoping that Prielipp could pitch a lot this year, but obviously we now have to wait another year or longer. Bigtime bummer.

    Pitchers, pitchers, and more pitchers! I love this strategy, especially, as many have noted, that this draft is deeper in quality arms than in the past. Sure, another catcher would have been nice, but I love the accumulation of young arms. And as a bonus we now have one of the best names in the game: Paulshawn Pawqualotto

    I love these reports on the newly drafted players. Thank you! It sounds like the front office did some good homework on Soto, and got a kid with not only some impressive skills, but a great attitude too. Thrilled to have him in the organization. Now don't go out and trade him next year!

    Thanks for that extra information. Also, reading the original report, this struck me: A hard-nosed player who generally eschews batting gloves, Harry has minimal movement to get his swing started. He lifts his front foot up, stays relatively still with little rhythm in his swing before punching his hands at the ball. Man, I love this guy already! Doesn't strike out much, hustles, gets his uniform dirty ... looking forward to seeing him play!

    Agree, I don't think any front office with a lick of sense would give up remotely good prospects for any of those players. Maybe Polanco if he was healthy, but a definite no way on the other guys. But like you and others have said, it's also unlikely that the Twins will just release any of them at this point. They have all have the potential of being useful and productive players, but obviously we haven't seen much of that this season.

    I don't think that Snell is any sort of upgrade either. He's been too up and down and sideways since he left Tampa Bay.

    What sort of contract did Keuchel sign with the Twins? Is it one of those "if I'm not called up by a certain date, I'm outta here" type of deals, or is he just insurance in AAA right now? As others have noticed, he's pitched well so far, but the usual short sample results apply. What can expect of this once effective veteran at this point? Will we see him with the Twins anytime soon?

    I'm sure many of us are salivating at the prospect of facing the lowly Oakland A's right after the break, but I'm already thinking that we are walking into an ambush! Please, please, please, don't take the A's too lightly. Even Rooker is starting to hit better again lately.

    Ugh! A thoroughly depressing game in every aspect for the Twins. We all hope the break for the All-Star Game will help to right this leaky ship, but I don't think a few days rest is the answer.

    Just from reading the reports about Jenkins, outside of his playing skills, he sounds like a bright and well adjusted kid with a good work ethic and the right attitude, As someone else wrote, he's perhaps a bit like Royce Lewis in that regard. Welcome to the organization Walker Jenkins!

    I like this pick a lot! Just from reading what the reports say, you can't help but like the potential. Hopefully we will feel the satisfaction and excitement that comes from developing a young athlete like that into a quality pitcher. Stay healthy and work hard young Charlee!

    This is only from my daily box score watching, but in the past week or so, ever since that players-only meeting, it seems like Correa and Buxton are increasing their number of walks. Whatever it takes to cut down on those strikeouts!

    He has certainly turned into a very productive "under the radar" pickup for the Twins this year. Without him and Taylor and Farmer, things would be a LOT more bleak this season.

    I love reading these minor league reports and appreciate the details. But all too often I have no idea which player is in the photo at the top of the page!

    One positive aspect to this season is that the Twins seem to have more depth in their system in regards to pitching. We have several good arms who could be called up and do a good job if needed, unlike in past years when we seemed to continually picking up pitchers that had been put on waivers or released by other teams. That said, we still may need another quality (not sure how to define "quality", but there you go) pitcher from outside the organization to bolster the bullpen down the stretch.
