  1. Fair. Obviously, he brings more potential defensive value than Julien. On-field personality is also quite different, as well…to put it in understated terms…he has a lot of “flair”.
  2. Yes. And as Riverbrian points out above, Buxton can ‘rehab’ with the Twins at some point over the last 9 games (doesn’t need to be St Paul since the games don’t matter) to prove/disprove readiness for a role in the opening series. You can even replace an injured player during a series (pending commissioner approval).
  3. Yeah…the bench role seems like a big mistake, IMO. If he’s getting one PA a game in a big spot, I just see him flailing and chasing even more than normal, trying to do too much…not to mention how it constricts flexibility with the roster. I don’t think it would be the end of the world to DH him and have him, like 6th,7th,8th in the order behind someone like Wallner or Jeffers (or Kirilloff?) because I do think pitchers will consider Buxton a power threat ALMOST no matter how he’s swinging it, and the guy in front of him might see better pitches than otherwise. That’s where he would belong in the BO, regardless of DH or CF roles. Still don’t think it would be the best move, though…unless he can play CF.
  4. Greene was fantastic…dominant. I think all of us as Twins fans should be able to appreciate how devastating that loss has to have been for the Reds and their fans. The shoe was on the other foot today. Many here seem excited about the possibility of a 2 seed. I can assure you the Twins management aren’t thinking 2 seed. We’ll see Correa and Lewis get extra rest. We’ll see Gray and Lopez skip starts, the back end of the bullpen will be used just enough to keep rust off… Etc etc. If a 2 seed happens (due to the soft schedule), it happens…but mainly exhibition games from here on out. I’m happy with the 3 seed…and their play in the 2nd half has made them worthy of a 3 seed, IMO…despite the terrible competition in the division.
  5. To me it’s pretty simple… If he can play in the field, you roster him. If he can’t, you don’t. He’s not a DH…and you can’t afford to bring a guy that can only PH. Meanwhile, he has a career OPS of 631 as a substitute, and 455 as a pinch hitter. So, it’s not like he has a track record of being good in those roles, either.
  6. Wonderfully pitched ball game against a desperate team in a hitters ball park! Please let Lewis be OK.
  7. Not the way I read it. And I think the are ramifications for how modern athletes train. It’s debatable, but a legit topic, IMO.
  8. So you don’t think players get hurt more often/easier now? The statement was not that “they’re soft” or “really not injured”…simply that they seem to get hurt easier or more often on seemingly harmless plays. I don’t think it’s a ridiculous take at all.
  9. Swings at too many —it pitches. For a guy that’s reported to be a true student of the art of hitting…seems he never has a play. Big difference between aggressive approach where you go after the first good pitch you see, and going after any pitch close to the zone. He does way too much of the latter.
  10. Ozzie Albies?? Maybe…I just assumed it was Acuna when I noticed the jersey/cap! But that would make sense…Acuna probably isn’t chasing a DQ check these days.
  11. Gameday keeps running a DQ add featuring Ronald Acuna Jr and Byron Buxton. One of these things is not like the other.
  12. Aside from the assumption that the Arraez deal had anything to do with the Mahle deal…Steer has a long way to go to be an all-star. And CES hasn’t even established himself in the league yet. Meanwhile there is much data that says Steer is the opposite of “extremely competent” defensively. And CES is worse yet…will need to hit at a 1B/DH level to stick in the league, because that’s where he’ll be playing. Obviously, the trade has been one-sided since the guy we acquired basically hasn’t played. Don’t know if there was a lack of due diligence on the Twins FO part? So, a bad mistake. But, I’ll need to see way more from Steer and/or CES to declare this to be on a franchise-altering scale, which you seem to suggest.
  13. If we put math to this, it would round to 0%. Twins would need to win at least 10 for the percent chance to even nudge up materially. And keep in mind, the Twins would likely be resting people big time in that scenario. Meanwhile, Houston has a series with KC remaining…and Texas and Seattle remain ahead as well. It’s time to simply be thrilled that we’ll be a 3 seed…while having the 5th, 6th, or as is the current case, the 7th best record in the league.
  14. It's truly hard to pull for the guy, honestly.
  15. Good news for any Twin that swings left-handed.
  16. Pablo needs to string another 3 zeros up there. He’s had games before where he bounced back from terrible 1st innings.
  17. Those guy have already won a playoff game in their short careers 😉
  18. Used to be the practice that you played your best available players against teams in the race…those that haven’t clinched or been eliminated. IMO, that’s the right way to do it.
  19. I mean…Vaughn, Benintendi, Robert Jr., Moncada, Jimenez, Sheets….all 25-28. I don’t think they’ll be giving up on these guys…maybe Moncada. Playing Andrus does seem inexplicable.
  20. U Absolutely…and batters chase less on 3-1…way less, and as a result, swing and miss less. The math simply compounds the discrepancy further, by not ‘counting’ the whiffs when they do occur.
  21. Also, Julien has every indication of being a three-true-outcome guy. He goes deep into counts almost all the time looking for a very specific pitch and/or area….he ain’t tying to hit singles. Those guys will always K a lot…and walk a lot. If you don’t like that style, I don’t think you’re going to like Julien. He’s pretty much the polar opposite of Lewis who’s pretty much hacking at the first pitch he thinks he can hit anywhere. That’s why Julien figures to work well leading off, and Lewis works well in a 3-5 spot. Both styles can work if executed consistently well enough. So far, so good, IMO.
  22. Here’s what we know… Julien WILL BE better against lefties than Vasquez is against righties. We KNOW what Vasquez is. Anyone with eyes can tell that Julien has tons more talent and potential than Vasquez with the bat, even as he’s still learning. If we’re saying the Vasquez matchup is what Rocco preferred, my response would be stop overthinking it, Rocco…and give the talent a chance.
  23. I can’t wait to see Walker Jenkins with the big club… …being pinch-hit for in the 5th inning (occasionally earlier) by journeyman righties. Can’t wait.
