Happened to be reading a ‘50 years ago’ history site…general, not sports-centric….
Early in the 1974 season, Nolan Ryan struck out 19 batters over 13 innings.
Lest the young’uns among you scoff at this old-timey bit of trivia…this is in an era when the name of the game was putting the ball in play…and players had the approach and skill to do so.
Point being…he was throwing HARD…all 13 innings. And he pitched another 20 years after that.
Not that we can use Nolan Ryan as an ‘example’ career…still, what happened?
