  1. HBP. Thankfully. But I’m starting to question whether Rocco knows that you can make these substitutions in the DEFENSIVE half of the inning. Someone needs remind him that the rules allow it.
  2. Ok…need to tack on here. Somehow.
  3. I’m assured that Alcala is learning a lot in St Paul right now.
  4. It’s a brilliant defensive strategy. It reduces the chances of runs being scored no matter which team is in the field. Rocco, again, ahead of his time.
  5. Happened to be reading a ‘50 years ago’ history site…general, not sports-centric…. Early in the 1974 season, Nolan Ryan struck out 19 batters over 13 innings. Lest the young’uns among you scoff at this old-timey bit of trivia…this is in an era when the name of the game was putting the ball in play…and players had the approach and skill to do so. Point being…he was throwing HARD…all 13 innings. And he pitched another 20 years after that. Not that we can use Nolan Ryan as an ‘example’ career…still, what happened?
  6. You mean an entity worth $1.3 trillion? I don’t think the TD staff shares your concern.
  7. A Camargo sighting in today’s lineup!! For a while there, I thought he might be the first non-pitcher in history to qualify for the pension without an official at-bat.
  8. Yeah. I wouldn’t expect the Twins beat writers or the local columnists to be on it. But I would expect the experts/bloggers…local and national…that produce prospect rankings for profit, to get on it at some point. They’ve all universally proclaimed him a top starting prospect.
  9. So…the difference between winning a division and coming in 2nd or 3rd? Sometimes, it can be both. And there’s been plenty of criticism of the players. Tons.
  10. You may be wrong for all I know But you may be right
  11. I think the question is…with Lewis and Correa. I think close to 500…yeah…8-10, 9-9. It takes two of the challenged bats and puts them on the bench…and it moves most of the other challenged bats down two rungs in the batting order. Add an effective Duran, and 9-9 seems reasonable, even with middling luck. But, too many guys underperforming for this to look very ‘good’ even if those guys were here/healthy.
  12. I would expect Rocco to have a sense for when you need to give a new horse a chance rather than continuing to lose with the horse you know. It’s been the case for a good while now that Rocco shouldn’t have any plans that include Thielbar in high…(let alone very high) leverage.
  13. Pinch hits for Julien (who hit the ball hard in two of his PA tonight, and hadn’t K’d, fwiw)…then lets Vazquez hit with the game on the line. What the he— is going on?
  14. It’s amazing that we can send up Santana, Castro, and Vazquez…and still haven’t gotten to the 9 batter.
  15. What is this ‘stealing’ of a base?? Is that legal, Father Pat?
  16. It looked a little low…and MLB tracker had it very low. I guess, who knows. Either way a pitch you define don’t want him going after early in the count…and then, he’s penalized for it. But, all’s well that ends well!
  17. Especially after he got absolutely hosed on the Strike 1 call.
  18. Yeah…I don’t think it was the strategy back in 1991, either. 1991 Twins averaged 4.79 runs per game. This year 3.41 so far. Projected out, that would be about 225 fewer runs scored over the season than the ‘91 squad. Ouch.
  19. Today’s players don’t even speak the same language as Billy. Hit behind the runner, sacrifice bunts, productive outs, running the bases aggressively, pitching deep into games??? He’d have assaulted half the roster by now. More than half.
  20. Scary: the Twins weighted average age for hitters this season is the 7th OLDEST in baseball…and the oldest in the ALC. ON the bright side: we’re near the bottom of the league (fewest) in GiDP this season. I probably put this into the category, “be careful what you wish for”, though.
  21. Just my opinion, but for me, the players have to perform at a competitive level for the managing to make much of a difference one way or the other. I’m definitely not a Rocco stan, but I don’t think…just in terms of the games themselves…anyone could have managed this group to more than 7 wins at this point.
  22. 40 degrees has come and went. As of right now…1 hour and 23 minutes before game time…it’s 38. Wind Chill at 29 degrees. Although, it may feel a tad better as the game progresses, as the wind is supposed to moderate and the temperature is not supposed to drop much from where it is.
  23. No mention at all that Wichita snapped a 9-game losing streak? Their pitching has been really bad. Not much better last night, but they salvage the win to get to 2-10.
