I mean....is it really that different than what we're doing in terms of being "in it"?

They just dealt a top fifty guy, so so far it's very different. If the Twins deal a top fifty guy, I really can't wait for a sale.

You have to drop to the 25th to thirtieth best prospect for the Twins, to be as "good" as what was traded for Gausman.....

I think the twins wanted the year of control for a guy with a six ERA though, rather than the rental great pitcher.

I am a bit confused by what the Blue Jays are doing. They have acquired 2 starting pitchers in Jameson Tailon and Jose Soriano, but they also traded away a starter in Kevin Gausman. They are only 4.5 out of the wild card so maybe they think they are still in it?

I believe they are acquiring guys who are controllable in at least 2027. Gausman isn't so they got rid of him.

Gausman is definitely a better pitcher than Kremer, but he is not a great pitcher. He has a 4.38 ERA on the year, and a 5.13 ERA in his last 6 starts.

I agree, meant more in terms of their "contending" status being an iffy conclusion.

Red Sox gave up their #2 prospect (per MLB.com) for Adley Rutschman.

In case we're wondering the ballpark that Jeffers might have been in.

Looks like Rutschman comes with another year of control, though.

The Twins must not have received any good offers for Ryan Jeffers. Adley Rutschman does have one more year of control but I would think most teams would much rather have Jeffers than Adley. Who knows, maybe the Twins totally took Jeffers off the table, which would be a surprise.

The two best bats for the Twins are (arguably) Buxton and Jeffers and yet the team has won as much when these players were down with injuries. Placement of importance is difficult at best with some guys.

Rutschman has had repeated injury issues and was just about to start a rehab assignment for the O’s.  Jeffers’ hamate bone injury is not the chronic type which can return.   There are arguments to be made that Jeffers was the better catcher even with the expiring contract.  I’m disappointed that Jeffers did not ignite a bidding war from which the Twins could take advantage.
Cleveland got better by adding an All-Star starter to its rotation.

The White Sox landed a pretty good reliever in Brazoban. Tyler Mahle got traded again, lol. Plenty of starters who are sub-replacement level getting traded in the past week.

Plenty of starters who are sub-replacement level getting traded-  Agree and we signed one Kremer

Baltimore had a great deadline. Rautschmann is always hurt, and they got a likely number 2/3 starter and 4 other prospects for him.  Those guys can be dealt, if wanted, because 2 of them have real value.

The Mets and Giants realized their position, and acted accordingly.

CLE and both CHI teams definitely pushed their opponents to act.
