Ok, here is a hypothetical that I would love your thoughts on...

Trade deadline coming up. My GUESS is that they will trade Ryan, Jeffers and Larnach all that the height of their value. I could see Ober being in the discussion too, but for now I'm only talking the first 3.

I ALSO think they could still be in playoff discussion, so Tom being the way he is, it's POSSIBLE they also add a reliever. Not certain who that is.

My question for you is; let's say they do trade Jeffers and Ryan in separate deals, as well as Larnach. I THINK Alan Roden will be up soon to take over Larnach's spot, but otherwise, IF they trade Jeffers, they will need a catcher ongoing and into 2027.

Based on both A) Who is winning this year, and B) Who would want Ryan, my question is, what teams would be able to make a trade happen that have a good defensive catcher available who can break into the majors either immediately or early in 2027? Off the top of my head, that's...

1) St. Louis, they have options

2) Milwaukee, if Jeferson Quero is fully healthy

After that, help me out.

What team can offer a strong package with a mlb ready catcher for Joe Ryan? That's my hypothetical. Honestly, off the top of my head, Milwaukee would be my favorite as they could offer Quero, maybe Luis Pena and probably a pitcher. But I'd love to hear your thoughts. Then after that, Jeffers could be moved somewhere for what essentially would top the QO draft pick return for the 2027 draft IF they were to QO him.

What do you all think?

Wait- if they are still in the playoff discussion and you say Tom adds a reliever, why would he trade Ryan? How does trading Ryan make the playoffs even a remotely interesting possibility?

Since we're doing hypothetical thought exercises...

Would you trade Ryan Jeffers straight up for Connor Wong. I'm ignoring the fact that Boston wouldn't have interest in a 2 month rental of Ryan Jeffers.

But purely from a Twins perspective, would you rather have Ryan Jeffers for the rest of this season or Connor Wong potentially through 2028?

Said another way, could we flip whatever trade package we get for Jeffers and get Wong with those same prospects?

Zero interest.

These arm angle guys only seem to work in the minds of the Twins FO. Certainly not showing good results in the Show for us.

You know, IF the Twins actually do turn it around and are just buyers and this thread means nothing, I'd be open to the idea of looking still at Jeffers to the Yankees for JC Escarra and then a pitching prospect they like. Escarra is a decent enough defensive option and does still have 2 option years left after this one. Depending on the prospect coupled with him, I'd be open to that kind of an idea.

It would hurt for the rest of the season, but at the same time the team is playing well without Jeffers too.

Ok, so changing gears then; IF they are more buying than selling, what level of prospect coupled with Escarra would still make you agree to trade Jeffers in the next month and change?

For me, if the Twins are really out of it (let’s say 8 or more under .500), then I’m trading Jeffers almost no matter what. Just get the best package you can. Catcher is going to need attention in 2027 no matter what happens.

If the Twins are within, say, 3 games of the last wildcard spot, then I’m just riding it out with Jeffers unless some absolutely crazy package gets offered.
